The Forced Listening Thread
Der Golem:
Yeah, I thought his voice was too fragile/weak and stuff at the beginning, but when he got all shouty, shivers down my spine dude.
King's X - Dogman
KharBevNor:
And that's live too. He screams non stop for about 30 seconds, straight out the blue. Just...incredible.
And yeah, Tibets voice can seem too weak, but it is very definitely something you grow to love.

Current 93 - Hosey
It starts out with some Spoken word, and the ominous "Dum Dum Dum" of a bass. Losts of stuff about suffering, grey shaded worlds, etc. The lead has an english accent, and the style is not offputting, but it's not catchy either. some chords come in, and he repeats a chorus, but that doesn't make any sense if this is supposed to be spoken word, and because he's not really singing. He just started Howling, and some sweet flute music broke in, sounds native american. He's talking about Christ's Black blood, and confessionals. This isn't very musically complex, and I could probably play all the parts myself including the flute and the bass... at the same damn time. The flute is the best thing about this, through the whole thing there isn't singing, he's kind of talking in a lilting, excited, half sane ramble. Some synth just came in, and the flute left :(. It's really long. Finished, it's morbid, and hard to follow, but it's not horrible and he gets points for being different.
6/10.

Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
Dragonforce are probably one of the most ridiculous bands in heavy metal today. Not funny ridiculous like Manowar, but just sad.
The song starts of with an Atari like intro that is played fast. Too fast. Baisically, the whole song is just "woo! look at us! we have great hair and we play really really fast! vvvvrrrrroooooommmmm". Seriously, stop it. They are obviously very talented musicians, but they are also useless because they showcase their talents in such a masturbatory way.
3/10
Forgotten Silence - As Suwais
Der Golem:
That is pretty amazing. Starts out with a sweet acoustic riff, soon joined by another guitar and then drums. A woman starts to sing and the guitars change slightly. The drumming is fast but still very restrained, very good. The guitarwork is what stands out the most though. Not because they are at the forefront of the mix, but because their riffs seem to be constantly evolving, there are really no repeated parts to speak of, but it still sounds remarkably coherent. After listening to the song twice through I don't remember any distinct melodies or riffs, just that the whole of it was pretty awesome. The singer is fine, all the vocal melodies are good, but a rougher style might have suited the song better. The bass doesn't stand out much, but provides a solid backbone behind the complex guitar interplay. 9/10
