In the interest of getting this moved along, I will review this, even though I have heard all of Delgados albums. Luckily I can't remember this one:

The Delgados - Thirteen Gliding Principles

It starts with some acoustic guitar fading in and a hum from a cello I suppose, then the ping pong vocals between the female singer(Emma) and the male(Alun) begin. The lyrics seems to be describing a relationship or domestic situation, but ends on a weird note before the chorus as Alun, who is mixed lower, sing "Jesus wept". The chorus, where they sing in unison, is rocked up with strings and electric guitar, which gives it quite a punch. This is repeated twice and then they rock like hell in the last part of the song, dual guitars, strings, flutes and the whole thing. In the end they sing some more and that's it.

Good song. Better than most of those before my favourite album Hate.

Next: Salida! this is a danish demo band with the "screamer" from Brudevalsen, who I have babbled of occasionally. This is their attempt at merging reggae guitar with hard rock!

Salida - Amends

It's a pretty simple idea, combining that rythm with harder rock, and they make it work. It doesn't sound like a demo, just... spare. It could be a better 4-5 minute song than 7, though, they're not working with much as far as changes, and it fades out after repeating the same 10-second phrase for about 15 times. 7/10

Her name is Yoko Kanno. She's Japanese and last name comes first.

I can attest to the extreme goodness of this track. Composed by Yoko Kanno and sung by Origa (Russian/Japanese singer). It's from the soundtrack to Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex.
The lyrics are rubbish but that's to be expected. The composition on the otherhand is absolutely brilliant.
Ummm. I guess I should post a track since I kind of reviewed it.

No, I'm just grumpy because everything I listen to is to mainstream to come as a surprise to someone here.

If you know more about the singer, though, I'd be interested... that's the one thing I don't know about that song.

I don't listen to much of this style at all, but it sounds pretty formulaic to my ears. Ambient and electronic- very interesting though. Uses a tremendous variety of noises- mostly clicks and beeps (not exactly standard fair back then though). My only complaint is that it seems to ramble. There is no theme or concept that it keeps coming back to. There's nothing that keeps it unified as one song- at least as far as I can tell. I'll definitely keep listening though- 7.5 with a significant possibility of going higher.

And here I was all excited to post some Noise Rock and I get beat on the experimental scale...but you can dance to this song.

(the quality is noticably diminished on the mp3, it was this or a huge file. I think this is good enough though.) Black Dice- Motorcycle

Yeah, EBM is exactly known for it's inovaton now days I guess.

Black Dice-Motorcycle
An interesting beginning. Guitars sound almost as though they're underwater. Vocals are kinda odd. I'm liking it so far, don't let me down.
Ok, 3 minutes into the song and it hasn't really changed. I can imagine listening to this on a Disney ride. The song is hella fun but not particularly varied. At about 4.30 the song totally changes as a huge pounding bass kicks in. Still pretty monotonous but kinda cool.
Some really cool effects and loops but not a whole lot of variation.

This is ODD. I think I like it. Maybe. I can't tell. Classical-music randomness and (presumably) sampling over glitched-out breakbeats? OK, this is what I'll say.

A long, long time ago I found a CD with a cracked jewel case for a dollar in aa startup comic/music shop. It looked techno-esque so i got it for my friend, who was into that sort of stuff. It was called "Tipper/Sound Off," I think, and it was a long string of stuff that sounded exactly like this. I always put on a playlist of it when I'm playing very fast-paced computer games. I like it. This is now on the playlist.

8/10 (though I really have no way to judge this in any sort of fashion that could indicate its worth to anyone else.)

It's definitely not trance. Trance has a kick on every beat - doof doof doof doof - and typically bass notes in between - doof wow doof wow etc. - and is very sparkly and shiny. And it's dance music. Bib definitely doesn't fit any of that.

At the time the album it's from was released some friends tried to convince me it was a new form of jungle (what became drum n bass) and, rhythmically, that's the genre it has most in common with. However, again, it's not dance music.

-Very weak music. I forgot it was playing.
-Not really my genre.
-The voice-like thing is pretty annoying.
-Very repetative.
-Singing is not great.
-Some cool effects.
-Picks up slowly a little before 3:00, then drops it about a minute later.
-The part where it picks up doesn't really pick up much.
-Near the end is strong, then drops out.

This seems like easy listening to me. Not really my style. 193/530 (around 3.641509/10).

Quick review: This is My Chemical Romance

More in-depth review: It starts with some bad guitar wankery and the singer telling you to "get down get down " in a whiny voice. Then there is a kind of barroom shuffle music part about a gun fight or some shit. Music throughout this part remains standard emo fare, guitars go a-chuggachugga with some random random wankery. The singer gets more desperate and tries to scream, highlight comes at 2:28 when he attempts to roar about it " going to go down on your PERMANENT RRRREAWWWCORD" which makes him sound like an emo Tony the Tiger.and it ends with him screaming like he just saw a really big spider. Overall, a compelling argument for eugenics.

1/10 The 1 comes from the previously mentioned "roar", which at least made me laugh.

Heh, to me this is much whinier than the My Chemical Romance song. But that aside, this song is hilariously messed up. The voice is very whiney, the tune is very odd and slightly disturbing. The weird background noise that occurs at around 2:45 is very amusing. Excellent. The actual vocal tune sounds like a 5-year-old screaming. Awesome.

Very cool song, but it is mildly annoying (actually, just about everything in it is annoying), and it seems like they tried a bit too hard. I really can't decide if this is a good song or not, but it gave me a headache... go with one point under average, for the headache. 4/10.

Next person has a choice of:
System of a Down - Vicinity of Obscenity (very odd but awesome)
Hammerfall - Blood Bound (like a 1000x better version of Iron Maiden)

Hey, don't yell at me. At least I don't like Panic! At The Disco. Oh yeah, and sorry about the Hammerfall thing. I was just kind of caught up in "I haven't heard this before. And it's pretty good." moment. And yes, that song was whinier than MCR. I mean, once you see the MCR band members, I guess you disprove that, but pretending they didn't try to look all gothic and whatever, yes, that song was whinier and much more boring (although more unique) than MCR.

And I put the remaining two songs on yousendit. So...yeah. Anyone that wants to, feel free to review it.

And this thread is amazing. I'm finding tons of excellent music. Most of it is pretty excellent. The most recent one I discovered and liked was Cynic. Seriously, how did I not know about Cynic before now?!?

And (yeah, sorry about starting all these paragraphs with "and") Crotchduster is interesting to say the least.

I sure hope I wasn't dropped on my head as a kid.

Tragedy - To The Dogs

I guess this is punk. I'm not a punk authority, though. It sounds a bit more mainstream than I was expecting, though. I actually COULD see the video for this song making it to MTV.

The instrumentals are well-done, and I love that they put something approximating a solo in at one point, but the vocals are really turning me off. I think it's a good song in that it does exactly what it's intending to do, but I wouldn't listen to it in my spare time. The vocals are far too angry, and I generally dislike explicitly angry vocals.

This is just Sleep's drummer and bassist picking back up where they left off back in the mid-90's. I can't tell if they're taking the Sabbath worship away from what it once was or just farther to the extreme. I do know, however, that you're gonna need a dictionary if you want to interpret the lyrics ... Al Cisernos can be a very cryptic and verbose guy.

Om - Annapurna

This is crazy... I guess the artist name and title suggest Buddhism all the way, and despite the totally rock aesthetic, the music does have a trancey aspect, particularly the repetition and the fact it goes on for just under 12 minutes.

I think it might be awesome... rhythm is my friend and the hugeness of both bass and beats is pretty incredible. I like how the beats gradually get more and more furious, but the development is at such a glacial pace it doesn't seem like just a cliched rock out. To me, anyway. Don't like the singer's voice so much, but it's very appropriate.

OK, here we go:

It's... a fictitious Cuban 8-bit sampler orchestra performing a futuristic take on son (traditional Cuban melancholic song style). In English the title would be "Life Is Full Of Cables". Sorry if that's too much info, I think some is helpful.

comes on really intriguing, like a gothy drug trip, and i'm thinking it's going to be awesome deathrock... then gets boring and repetetive for a bit. about halfway into the song it breaks down. it's eleven minutes long for no reason and ends on another repetetive note, but i'm sure the page was taken from the likes of pil and bauhaus. i would listen to this again... if i was high.

Los Sampler's - La Vida es Llena de Cables

I thought this was really cool. Starts out with a very familiar Latin tango-type sound, played on an acoustic guitar. Seconds in, the file appears to be broken, but such is the glitch-like nature of this piece. As the track continues, the electronic manipulation becomes more and more apparent, guiding the song through various sections. It ends with what I would consider an "instrumental development" utilizing continuing layers of electronic noise and heavier glitching of the ryhthm that actually starts to break meter slightly at this point. Breaks down to a very filtered approximation of the bassline which remains constant throughout the song's entirety. 8/10

Starts with some good spacey guitar playing (almost early MBV) and vocals before turning into a more straight forward metal playing although vocals continue to be different to the typical. In some parts it breaks down to an almost start/stop dynamic before returning to the main theme. The solo is somewhat lacking, but is followed by a better section with a more driving rythm before again turning start/stop. At about 4:10 it sounds like the band cuts loose and playful before returning to the main riff/vocal. Very good overall. 8.5/10

Has a very love-song-like tune. But the lyrics and name suggest otherwise. Pretty cool sound to it, but it's not a song that I'd really love. I like the beginning thing: "When you have nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire." It kicks it off and sets the story of the song, pretty much. The song slowly builds up, and ends with a louder version of the beginning. Not bad. 7.5/10

System of a Down used to be a good band. This is a good song. It's catchy and fun to listen to, but I can't say that before listening to it I didn't know exactly how it was going to sound. SOAD are basically reliving their first two albums in a much cruder manner, with less and less subtlety.
However, despite my bias against SOAD, I can't deny that this is an alright song. I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone, so I'm going to give it a 6.

As for the next song, let me think...

Oh yes, Common People by Pulp. I doubt it's already been reviewed, but don't blame me if it has, this thread is 19 pages long...

I had heard the Shatner version before so I had some idea going in what to expect. While I think I like Shatner's version more, this is really good mellow stuff with lots of British sass. 9/10

This is a really nice and soothing piece of music. The vocals are easy to listen to, there is a really good drum sound and the instruments are well played. I like this a lot. It's quite poppy but with a hint of edginess. It's like the postal service but with strings.

Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday

It starts with fanfare like synth-trumpets, so it can only be great. Bouncy synth rhythm with twinkly synth instruments. The vocals are saccharine sweet and the "laaalalalalaaaaaaaa" chorus is disturbingly addictive. The only downside is that it's a tad repetitive.

I'd say a 8.5/10, but having a name like Strawberry Switchblade gives it at least an extra .8.

The Video: Siouxsie and clone take acid in an abandoned Sesame Street set sing sweetly and dance dorkily. 10/10

I think when Rose McDowell just starts swinging her arms a bit and bopping very slightly from side to side, that is just the cutest.

Having heard almost the entire body of her musical work, I'm suprised she could find the happiness in her wee black heart to manage even that.
