The Last Show You Saw
Robbo:
Just back from Biffy Clyro w/ The Dodgems and Ariel-X and my students union.
Ariel-X where boring, repeat one chord 30 times in a song over one bass note and 4/4 drumming "rock" stuff. Showed odd moments of promise for about 5 seconds before killing it dead. Pretty much a musicial dud. Only slightly good bit was the guitar feed back at the end that sounded like watered down Drone.
The Dodgems, just horrible northern indie "rock", with bad hair cuts. Another musical waste of space that seemed to think squeeling two off key notes made up for the fact they guitarist couldn't play anything else. Despertatly trying to get even the hipsters up from the floor but it didnt happen.
In short, a fine example of why I dont like Indie or "indie" (real or mainstream labled as stuff) and made me very glad I was pretty much being paid to go (free tickets plus was owed drinks and chips).
Biffy where alright, looking like Cuosin It stands ins as usual. At least they could change chords in the middle of songs and play simple riffs and the bassist knew that sitting there strumming the top two strings for an hour is boring. Decent soft/"heavy" set up, nothing truely good but definatly made up for the talent black hole that was the support acts. Certainly at least made an atmosphere and did something with their music.
In other notes, some idiots need to learn the sodding different between moshing in a pit and crushing the people at the front. It could about half a dozen people that knew what they where doing to start a proper pit, rather than gimps just trying to slam into the people at the front like all their mates. But it went ok after that, even if some people seemd braind dead to simple pit politiness.
Over all, I've seen worse shit for free and it could have been worse. The Biffy pits saved as, as they where something fun. I'm glad I didnt pay for it though.
(Oh and if anyone wants to know why I event went...I dragged the Treasurer of the Indie Soc to MFKZT and Blackeye, so I owed him the repsect to turn upto one of his gigs)
muffy:
haha... nice review!
My mate's band's played with Ariely X a few times, they think they're rubbish too...
KharBevNor:
lol, all I really remember of Ariel-X was some decent-ish sounding bass. I spent most of their set talking about viking metal to this big guy with dreads and a Tyr rune tattooed on his hand.
Mikendher:
the Decemberists, a couple nights ago. The opening person was terrible, but the decemberists put on the best concert i've been to so far.
passthebottle:
Saw Blanks 77 last night, skipped the after party, came back to jersey and saw Hunchback, Theee Bishops, and Brine & Bastards at some bar in Jersey City. Today I'm going to a bbq where I will see Brine & Bastards and Theee Bishops again as well as some other localish band I've never heard.
Yay!
