Since I don't consider Brooklyn my actual home I'll have to go with DC/MD as my "local" scene cause it's where I grew up.
Medic - Ex-members of the fucking best hardcore band ever, De Nada, bring the jams again with this brutal squad of thrash-ninjas. As far as I know they don't have a website...but if you're in the area or are gonna be sometime peep pheer.com for shows.
Haram - Ex-MajorityRule, pg99, etc. They're kinda like grunge...but good grunge. Not Soundgarden or some bullshit. They're on tour right now so check them out.
The Ready Steady Go! - Ultra-cool mod rock/ska for fans of Elvis Costello, the Specials or Burial. Definitely a sweet band to see live, bring your dancing shoes.
Ummm, there are tons more I want to say, a lot of whom are now defunct. But yeah, there you go for now.

also HAPPY BULLETS are very rough around the edges, but I expect good things in the future.

Deceived - Pretty awesome just straight forward metal, could be better if they had another guitarist.

Ammi - Interesting rock band...Kind of like if you mixed Cursive, Mogwai, and Q And Not U together.
