Violent Femmes
pistachio:
Okay, so a lot/most people have heard Blister In the Sun and obviously so have I... but for some stupid reason I never really tried listening to any of their other stuff. It was always just one of those songs that was the only one that I ever listened to by them, if that makes any sense. But I finally realized Id never heard their other stuff so I got some.. and loved it.
So.. my point, what does everyone else think of Violent Femmes?
Also talk about any other music you've done that with... just had that one song forever but never bothered to look up any of their other stuff.
La Creme:
The Violent Femmes are for very yes. This post inspired me to start listening to my live version of Kiss Off. C'est tres bien. Yeah, the Femmes were really a premier alt-rock band. THey influenced a lot of stuff that was to come, everything from (in my opinion) the Pixies to the Seattle Sound to Modest Mouse (that's a bit of a stretch though...)
They were all pretty good musicians too. Especially the bass player. And all great songwriters.
P.S. I did that with Ocean Colour Scene. The only song I'd heard and loved was "Hundred Mile High City" and I listened to their other stuff and every single song dissapointed me.
Inlander:
Pistachio, you MUST go and get yourself a copy of their debut, self-title album - RIGHT NOW!! "Blister in the Sun" is only the tip of the iceberg. You haven't even begun to live until you've heard "Add It Up" (preferably whilst singing along and dancing like a loon). A few years ago a deluxe edition of the album was released, absolutely jam-packed with bonus tracks including a whole lot of live stuff. If that's a bit too expensive, the original version of the album should still be available.
A lot their other stuff is great, though they've never quite reached the consistent heights of that first album.
La Creme:
C'mon dad.. gimme the car tonight. C'mon dad, gimme the car. I've got this girl... I wanna (preeeowww). C'mon dad... gimme the car.
Are there any available live versions of that song? My mom has a bootleg but the quality sucks...
God is that song good.
El Opium:
Got their S/T a few weeks back. Best thrift store vinyl find ever. It's in good shape too. I don't think it's original owner liked it that much, it was in a box of Duran Duran and other synth pop records from roughly the same era. Did see a copy of '3' I think it was at a used shop but I was going to a concert and thus wanted to save my money.
