Slightly off-topic, but: Damn man, why does everyone pretend like pretention is a bad thing. MORE PRETENTION, I say. When you are totally into yourself you are more likely to do really weird stuff, and really weird stuff equals new most times. Without pretention there would be no Doors, no Beatles, no (insert really good band).
It's weird that in the indie scene everybody is pretentious but likes to pretend they are not. I say let's just admit it, and enjoy the music. And let them admit it and make great music. If a couple of people with it suck, move on to the next who has it and is great.

After listening to the whole album a couple of times, I'm liking it more and more. I especially love the rendition of Stability (Stable Song) at the end. Other than that, it's actually pretty good. Once I got used to the changes, I really began to enjoy it.

Well, nuts to all this "yo man, Death Cab are such selloutz! They're so lame!" shit. I just got the album today, and I'm super excited! I thought Transatlantacism was even better than the previous (The Photo Album) a generally a great record. Whatever people say, I still think Ben Gibbard's lyrics are kinda sweet. But to each his (or in my case her) own. I'm gonna go put it on and enjoy!

I never understood the attacks on his writing. I think he writes some of the best stuff out there. I like the use of metaphors and the way he creates a story around an emotion rather than just complaining about it. I really feel for each character he creates in his songs.

Agreed! He's also the only singer that I can think of that has written songs aboout dumping someone as tender as though he was the one who got dumped (Tiny Vessels, Some Day You Will be Loved). Also, he's definately fast that age where people can say his metaphors and stories are "sappy teenage poetry-esque dribble" because they are obviously not.
I just listened to the new one and it's quite lovely, I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Crooked Teeth, Your Heart Is An Empty Room, Some Day You Will be Loved and Summer Skin are my favourites thus far! YAY!
