Also, your mom.

do you mean 'say hi to your mom' or are you just making a bad joke?
--- End quote ---
No, I mean that a lot of indie kids think your mom is the greatest thing since sliced bread and Pavement, and really, she isn't. She's sorta sucktastic.
Garcin:
Say Hi to Your Mom got a crap Pitchfork review, so how could it possibly be overrated? (j/k, j/k)
--- Quote from: spirit radio ---I'm definitely not a troll. And I love plenty of bands Pitchfork loves (see Decemberists, Sufjan, Tortoise etc.). And CYHSY is gigantic among board-posting people. And the album is definitely out.
And what the hell is OP?
--- End quote ---
OP is original poster. CYHSY has been gigantic among forum goers for less than one month. Jeph posted a positive response to the concert just a few days ago. The time-span for a creative success in the indie world is shrinking so fast that pretty soon we are going to go directly from "unknown" to "backlash".
I'm going to paraphrase what someone else said earlier in this thread: an overrated thread is just another way of saying "Bands I don't like but you probably do". Ok. So what?
KharBevNor:
--- Quote from: Not An Addict ---Really, can any band mentioned in this thread top Radiohead? I doubt it.
--- End quote ---
Radiohead win completely because they're not just over-rated by indie kids. I'm talking about things like Channel 4 listing Ok Computer as the best album ever. Not even best British album, which would still have been revoltingly criminal.

yeah.

Thanks for the ass cancer.

Why don't you guys provide some reasons for these bands being so over-rated instead of just listing out bands you don't care for?
Some of the claims so far have been terribly off base.
Radiohead? My Bloody Valentine? Pavement? Sonic Youth?
What do you guys like if you care so little for the aforementioned? Throw in the Pixies (and possibly Joy Division, Guided by Voices and Echo & the Bunnymen) and you have primary influences for the majority of bands making records today.
I don't know how Radiohead can be over rated, 3 of their albums have been top notch 10/10 material. The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A are phenominal. And the others are far better than the majority of what is released today. Claiming that they are over rated sounds like nothing more than a cry of "they are too popular for me to like them".
My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth were both sonically innovative groups. Loveless and Daydream Nation are classic albums. You can't argue with that, their influence is undeniable.
Pavement... well it is difficult for me to make a fair argument for them since they are one of my favorite bands. So I will just ask for some clarification on how they are over-rated.
Yeah, if you christen any of these bands to be "the best ever", I could understand people arguing with you. Claiming you are over-rating them etc. But even if that were the case, being the best ever is so subjective it isn't even worth contemplating. And being over-rated... how does one become over rated? Is it just a simple case of "all these people like this band, and I think they are shit, I will make my voice heard on the internet!"?
Personally I think the Killers are over-rated on the grounds that they have sold a ton of records and have a sound I find extremely aggravating. Cheesey synth shit shouldn't sell a million records. But I am sure there is someone out their whose life was completed by some cheesey synth shit and is more than willing to argue with me. So what is the point?
