Okay everyone, I'm the artist/webmaster for Cartridge Comics, and I need to redesign my site to php. Html is what I'm familiar with but the bigger my archive gets the more of a pain site design changes are. So what I need is for your advice, links, whatever, on how I can learn to use php code. I've found tutorials but all of the ones I see do not explain everything, they seem to assume you already have some knowledge on the subject, and I have none. I've come here because I know this is one site where assholes are scarce and you guys are always very helpful, so I really could use some help right now. Thanks.

EDIT: Please don't take my site link as self-promotion, it's only so you can see what my current design looks like. I want the site to look the same for now, but run off php instead of html.

Well, first off the design...I like it. It's pretty fucking good, I don't know how people design sites like this.

What you could do is to make it fancier use switch statemetns to make it instead of about.html or something like that, make it like index.php?page=about or something like that. I'll hit it up with one of my friends after I get my own site design done.

Yeah, I basically want the archive to save the comic and blog, and simply reload the same upper navigation header and copyright notice onto each page. the same goes for our articles and stuff, i want to load the same header and logos onto each page, but have the unique articles and features load. This way if I redesign the logo or add a button to the navigation, I don't need to go to every page on my entire site and change it.

And thank you for the compliment to the site. It took a lot of hard work and many hours in Frontpage.

As I'm sure you've heard, MYSQL is an extremely powerful tool used in the right places. To archive the comic images, It'd be a good idea to use MYSQL (yes, yes, it is very possible, I haven't done it, per se, but I know of a friend who does and finds it very, very useful).

We could probably talk on AIM to make this a bit easier. I'd be quite happy to help you out. Although I am an amateur PHP programmer, I'd love to help you out, and I think I would be able to.

As for adding logos and navigational buttons and such, I can't really tell. Drop me a line on AIM (Amisfitintime) and we can discuss it.

Alright, I'll register with AIM and meet you online sometime. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you earlier but I've been working on this week's comic all day.

No worries, you're a busy dude. My only schedule is school, and that isn't much of a bitch.

By the way....I found the zombie hitler comic particularly hysterical. Myself, Julia, Cliff and Mike agree that you have a good comic going!

Thank you so much. It's a bit difficult to keep a new comic coming every week, as my equipment is crap and I also work a full time job, but I love doing this comic.

That said, unless my week changes it'll probably be better to write me by email. You can write me at [email protected]. That goes for anyone else who would like to offer php tips. Thanks a bunch. :)
