Sixties psycadelic rock (if you can call it that)

<< < (4/4)

Azathoth:
For the record, the Thirteenth Floor Elevators invented psychedelic rock.

I am so sick of hearing people roughly my age telling me that rock music peaked several decades ago.  The worst part, is if these people have any new discs in their collection they're usually by Green Day.  Half of our generation has acquiesed to our parents notions of what great music is while the other half seem to swallow whatever MTV spoon feeds them.  It takes some digging to discover great music being made today but I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.  Listen to Spiritualized: Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space and then get back to me.

MilkmanDan:
Basically, you have entirely missed the point of everything by not having the 13th Floor Elevators on your poll. You also missed The Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO, so you fail twice.

Then you diss country, making a Holy Trinity of failure. Listen to Lefty Frizzell and maybe I'll be interested in your opinions.

--- Quote from: Kai ---What about Sabbat, Finntroll, Skyclad, old Dimmu, Dream THeater (at times), Iron fucking Maiden, the Coil, Motorhead, S.O.D., Bal Sagoth, Crotchduster, Manowar, ...And Oceans, Aryeon, Wuthering Heights, Edge of Sanity?

That list warms the cockles of my fucking heart.

How come everyone's mentioning psychedelia and not one word in for Hawkwind? Come on people! Hawkwind have collectively taken more drugs than any other band ever. I mean, we're talking about a band so chilled they kicked Lemmy out because they couldn't stand him being so hyper all the time. There's also a strong possibility they have the largest discography ever, 39 albums (not counting singles, EPs, compilations, remixes etc.) and still going.

Anyway, if we're talking about metal, and we're talking about drugs, why are we keeping the two so seperate? Orange Goblin! Acid Bath! Ewigkeit! The Meads of Asphodel! Electric Wizard! And of course, because there's no doubt about it, we can't live without it...Tankard. Because Tankard rule hard and they sing about the purity of chemical-free German beer, which is essentially the most metal thing ever.

Come on people!

Thrillho:

--- Quote from: Storm Rider ---I personally think that Sgt. Pepper's is an incredibly overrated album. Sure, it was good, but many people call it the 'best album of all time'. I think that that is patently ridiculous, as it's not even the best Beatles album. Revolver and Rubber Soul are clearly superior.
--- End quote ---

THANK YOU!

P.S. Whoever said that Pink Floyd stopped being psychedelic after WYWH - erm...no. They stopped being psychedelic pretty much as soon as the 70s started.
