I know there will always be people who disagree in a public forum, I was just thought he might like to know how to not turn into one of those members who comes around, throws up a few posts that piss people off and leave within a month.

Jens I am not sure people are as worked up as you think they are? You're right, disagreements are not the end of the world. I do not think anybody is acting like it is, except for you?

Someone came in here and said something ignorant, members of this forum who care about tattoos corrected them, other people contributed with their own personal feelings/experiences.

Dovey's number one pet peeve:

People who think that you can't possibly disagree with someone and have a conversation about that disagreement without taking it personally/ People who think that you can't be passionate about a subject without taking any dissenting opinion personally.

My little yellow bird behind my ear is for my little sister Jane. Around the time I got it, she was in the hospital with a blood disorder, and they had her in the oncolodgy department. Needless to say, it sacred the life out of me. So I got my yellow bird to remind me of her. She loves ducks and chicks, and all sorts of little birds, so getting that tattoo'd on me just seemed natural.

You are doing it right.

I think I shared this back when I first put the pictures of my tattoos up, but I have two right now and I am definitely getting more, I'm just undecided on what (for the most part).

I have a scorpion for two reasons, 1. I am a scorpio. 2. My dad has a tattoo of a crab on his arm (he is a cancer), and I got a scorpion on my arm so that I'll never forget him.
I have a snake with the earth character in it because I was born in the year of the earth snake. It is a pretty simple matter.
I'll be getting another tattoo, a character from an old 70s animated movie because it reminds me of my youth, when I was like 5 and in the car with my mom and sister and we'd be on our way to our nana's house, but we'd start singing the songs from the movie.

I am less decided on getting exclamation points and question marks tattooed on me (I really want them, I just can't think of a good place) To let me know that my life is fucking exciting, but there is a lot of uncertainty to it.

My sister got tattoos because 1. "It looks cool" 2. "Its just a sophisticated form of cutting"

I can't really knock anybody's reasoning for getting whatever they want tattooed on them, though. I mean, its a personal thing. I mean, yeah, both my birds have some pretty big secret meanings(I'm pretty sure if I told you the meaning of the black bird, you'd laugh, but it's still important to me), but not every tattoo has to be meaningful in that sense. Look at my cephalopod tattoos. They don't have any deep meaning behind them. I got them for two reasons. I like cephalopods, and I like getting tattoo'd. I don't think you really need much more reason than that. I mean, I hate flash as much as the next person, so I don't really think you should walk into a shop, flip through some pages of flash, and just say "I want that" and get it done. But just getting a tattoo because you simply like the design isn't an altogether terrible thing.

Man I'm not going to tell anyone that their reasons for getting a tattoo are stupid, if you want a tattoo because it symbolises something then rad. If you want a tattoo because it looks fucking awesome then just as rad. I'm also really not sure what I'm trying to say here but whatever, the point is that tattoos should hopefully have more behind them than "I went into a tattoo shop and got this awesome tiger/fairy/barbed wire that they had on the wall. WOOOO!"

Is this the part of the thread where we once again talk about what our tattoos mean? If so then I got my X-Men tattoos because when I was growing up I was pretty lonely as I didn't really have many (or any) friends and watching the X-Men cartoons and reading the comics kind of made me feel like I did have friends. Also I just really love X-Men.

I'm planning on getting a celtic knot shamrock with the names of the Irish parts of my family around it. My brother is getting one also. His would by on his chest, above his heart, and mine would be on my back, behind my heart.
I'm thinking of getting a butterfly with "Maureen" for my cousin.
Also a teacup. Because I really like tea.

My younger sister got a tattoo on her hip the other day, of a stingray. Her reasoning? "I was at the aquarium and there were a bunch of them and I was like THAT! I want THAT tattooed on me!"  I'm pretty sure they were actually manta rays at the aquarium. Wtf world.

I know the thread has got back to being all fuzzy and nice and about badass tattoos (esp. the squid!) But I would like to state I have a fair few that come from me being drunk with friends who have tattoo guns and I love there wobbly shitness more than some of my paid for thought out ones...

And it really is because they make me think of one time I got wasted with my friends. (Some of them are now dead, does that make it a memorial tattoo as well )

I like it when people have regrettable tattoos, it's like scars for me. Hot.

Minor aside for a moment, why are scars hot? I have a scar on my finger from where I put it down the plughole as a child that does not make me a rock star.

Nor does being dense enough to get yourself in a dangerous situation mean that they are attractive, it just means they are somewhat silly.

Anyway back to tattoo's, what is everyones thinking on hand tatoo's? Are they either pretentious or just as good as other tatoo's.

I quite like some scars. I have one on my cheek from where my friend throw a lump of flint at the ground and it smashed into hundreds of razor sharp pieces and one cut my face. It's stuck there permanently now. It's not to noticeable but sometimes a feel myself playing about with it cause the skin is different.  There's just something about scars that I quite like.

We had a discussion on them awhile back. I don't think anybody thinks they are pretentious, but I think a few thought they were silly. I like them a lot.

As for scars, I am pretty apathetic towards them.

Yeah, I'm not sure how they could come off as pretentious honestly. They're just like any other tattoo to me. If they work they work. If they don't they can always be covered up.

The only real difference is the level of dedication it takes to get them. The only other spots that really compare in that sense would be facial, possibly scalp and visible neck tattoos.

I'm personally not a fan of hand tattoos. I don't know why, but I just don't think they look as awesome as they probably would elsewhere.

And scars? I have so many of them. I guess it comes with the working-with-animals-or-on-farms territory. Most of my worst scars are all across my arms and back, since apparently dogs and horses think those are the best places to bite?

Exactly what kind of hand tattoo's are we talking about here?  I don't really feel one way or another about them, though I do kind of like ring tattoo's.

The only real scars I have are burn scars.  It comes with working in a pizzeria.  Except for three dots I have on my arm.  Two friends and I decided to brand ourselves with a fireplace poker.  Not one of my best ideas, although nothing got infected and we weren't even drunk when we did it.

On the subject of hand tattoos, anyone know what it's like having the tip of your finger (where your fingerprint is) tattooed? I quite fancy getting a small lightning bolt done there. I'd expect it'd need a lot of touching up over time...

And whilst we're on the subject of specific areas, what about feet tattoos for guys? I know a few girls that have them done, but I've never seen a fella with his feet inked.
