I'm not gonna comment on whether they would suit you because I'm terrible at that, but healing wise lobes are about as easy as it gets.

Barring any complications it's a pretty simple to care for deal. You'll still need to clean them and soak them, but they should finish up with any maintenance work within 2 - 3 weeks and be fully healed with a  proper fistula within 2 - 3 months.

In all honesty, some of the best looking lobes I've seen have been on folks with rounder faces. It just seems to suit them, but typically anything 13mm and below will suit practically anyone and be easily disguised as a normal piercing.

Edit: When I say what I say concerning rounder faces I'm thinking of larger stretches also. 25mm and up seems to suit round faces and large folks in general incredibly well and I'm assuming those sizes are not even part of the equation.

Should probably mention I'm not a big fan of stretches in general, so any and all advice given by me in this arena should be taken with a grain of salt.

Well I dislike stretched lobes unless you keep them small enough that they can go back. So that is something to keep in mind as well.

Also, what Jimmy said.

Seriously sew back together ears are gross, it may not be so much of a problem with guys, but there are SOOOOOO many earings I can't wear because of my crappy stretches, one of which grew right back & looks normal, the other only shrank half way.

They can be permenant. Remember that. You may start not finding it pretty anymore. I don't & I used to have Mahoosive ones.

She is definitely correct on that, the general accepted size that is irreversible via downsizing is about the 1/2" (13mm) mark, but it varies from person to person.

I would like to point out though that repaired lobes (barring healing issues) have no excuse to be gross if done properly.

It's also rather expensive to have done unless you have a skilled and trusted body modification artist to go to who is willing to do it for you.

I like stretched lobes. Dovey, I think they would look pretty ok on you if you didn't get them too big. I think they'd suit your face and would go nicely with your style. But if you don't want them, then don't get them. I don't think piercings are worth the investment if you don't plan on keeping them for a decent period of time.

That said, the jewelry is sooooo awesome.

Booked my tattoo for next week! Getting it done by a pretty ace artist. I think I saw this one being done.

Okay, so, some of you know I've been thinking about getting a Kandinsky painting tattooed on my foot:

I was just wondering about white ink, would it work out at all? The background is mostly white, but I don't know if I should get the background at all or just the image itself. The shapes would definitely stand out more on a white background (if I got a background I would probably make the white fade out instead of having the sharp edges of the canvas) as in the actual painting, but I'm not sure if it would translate well as a tattoo. Also, about the white shapes in the image itself, if I decided to leave out the white background, should I leave out white in the shapes as well? Argh it's so hard to figure out what would look best, I know nothing about tattoos! Help!

From what I've heard white is generally only used in highlights, the dead bird on my arm has a chunk of white ink for the body/face area. You could probably get away with having white in the white shapes, but I am not sure how white ink looks when shaded in as the background. I can't recall ever seeing a tattoo with huge amounts of white ink making up the image. Your best bet is to talk to a tattoo artist about the idea and see what they have to say. Most tattoo artists are rad and happy to discuss ideas with you!

A thing to keep in mind with white ink though is that it's never actually white, it'll always take on the tone of your skin and fade over the years. The white on my dead birdy doesn't really look all that white anymore, it just looks a bit anemic.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's either all or nothing here, since the white shapes in the figure functions as spaces that breaks up the figure a little bit, so they need to be the same colour as the background for the figure to not become a compact blob. And hey, if my skin had been any whiter I would have been an albino, so why not just drop the white.

Edit: Dammit Jace, beat me to the joke.

Yeah, Emaline, that's what I was trying to say (although probably kind of clumsily, excuse me, it's 2 am).

Alex, you have good taste! I love Kandinsky. I mean, I love a lot of all kinds art and I'm probably a lot less critical than I should be (studying art history kind of does that to you), but Kandinsky is way up there when it comes to aesthetic art. The way Kandinsky relates music to visual arts, his extremely varied styles and the way you can see colours basically meant everything to him is just stunning.

Also if you spell his name properly it's actually Vasilij Kandinskij. It just got americanized, like everything else.

Fun fact: after I typed out the sentence above, spell check put red lines under his name, but not the word "americanized".

How big is your foot? If they are small it might not be the best placing, it's quite a big image with levels of detail...That may well bleed into one another over time, loosing the sharp look of it.

My feet are size 38/39 in European sizes ad  7,5 in American, so pretty average I guess. And yeah, because of the small details I want it quite big, so I want the tattoo itself to be sort of tilted and cover my foot, parts of the ankle and maybe going up my leg a little. I don't know, I'll have to discuss details with a tattoo artist.

It's such an awesome piece of artwork, are you going to have it done painterly or just in block colours?

I think stretched ears are great.  I think they look good on almost anyone, it is just a matter of scale.  Not wearing "normal" earrings can be sad, but once you get big enough you can wear hoops again.  I wear hoops through my tunnels all the time.
The only thing to be careful of when deciding to stretch, but not go very big is that as you go your idea of what "big" is changes.  I know when I started I was planning on stopping around a 2.  I am nearly at half inch now.

Also Kris I am majorly in support of this tattoo.  I also don't think you need white, I think it will look good just with your skin as the canvas.

Yeah, I think the term "Uses Safe Sub-dermal Implants!" and being sold by a non surgical site is what gave it away. I do know that this is kind of something that is (or at least has) being worked on, and the reality of it is actually much  more awesome, but it's certainly not legally approved yet.

I like the idea of it but I think it depends entirely on why you want tattoos in the first place. I think I'd probably stick to normal tattoos myself, but I could see getting one as an experiment. Once the screens get to the point where color and detail an be done properly it could be a fantastic option.

On the other hand, it seems odd to me that someone would be unwilling to get permanent ink on their body but be perfectly okay with getting a surgical procedure done to have a foreign object crammed under their skin in order to simulate it. Also jesus fuck the Body Mod community does not need yet another thing to feel all superior and bitchy about.

Yeah see, that's why I am excited about it. I'm just confused by the idea of not wanting to get tattoos because of most of the reasons for nto wanting them, but being ok with having an implant inserted via surgery.

I don't know, I think once you're happy to allow someone to stick that many needles into your skin, it's only a small step to accept surgery. I'd certainly prefer to be able to change/remove my tattoo if I had one (but I wouldn't get one).

I am quite disappointed that it isn't real, though.

Oh no, I agree with you there. Once you get one procedure, whether it's piercing, tattoo or scarificaton, other things seem less radical as you go. I mean people who are not willing to get tattoos and the like, but are ok with this idea.

I am still incredibly eager to see the implants powered by BLOOD to hit FDA approved status.

Basically I think my confusion arises from the same place as people who are ok with plastic surgery but not tattoos or piercings.

The only reason I wouldn't be okay with a tattoo is the idea that I'd eventually get tired of it/regret it, regardless of how well thought out it was. I can avoid getting that I <3 BLINK-182 tattoo but priorities and tastes change over time.

Also, unfortunately, body modification discrimination is still rampant in the corporate world so I have to plan for that.
