Gaaaaaah holy crow, so! It turns out the taper I was using was considerably larger in size than I had thought. I've downsized back to the spirals I was wearing before and feel a little silly. It makes me feel a little strange that the taper didn't hurt more going in considering the size difference. I think it'll be fine but I feel a bit sad now given that it's going to delay me for much longer now since I'll have to wait for it to heal. Any suggestions on things to do to make it heal up nicer? I'm soaking them at this point, there doesn't seem to be any visible damage, but considering I accidentally skipped two sizes I'm assuming there's damage in them ears, even though they're not crusting anymore.

Oh yeah! So I went and got my ankles done yesterday, the lines are a bit imperfect because woah, there are so many twitchy little reflexes in your ankle bones that I was not aware of. The pain was more intense than I was expecting but still manageable. I'm really happy with them especially when I look at my ankles from the front.

Andy, I was just coming in this thread to (jokingly)complain that you hadn't posted pictures of you tattoos yet. They look awesome! Some simple and neat. I really like them.

Also, stretching. I am at 7/16ths right now. I want to go to 1/2. I've been this size for at least 6 months, most likely way longer. But I cannot, for the life of me get to 1/2. What the heck. Everywhere I go tells me that I shouldn't use tapers at this size, and I can find any that are bigger than what I'm at now, if even that. I recently bought 1/2 plugs and the piercer there tried to get them in for me, but couldn't. He said I was almost there, and if I just went home and did a few stretching exercises, I could probably get them. He recommended weights/locks on my ears for an hour or so. I've been doing this for weeks now, and I've got nothing. What the hell can I do before I just give up and cry?

NO. DO NOT PUT WEIGHTS ON THEM. You'll cause a thin spot and have uneven stretching, which looks rubbish. Try teflon tape. Applied around your current plugs. Add one loop per day, or even two days, until you reach your desired size. Or use spirals and work up to it VERY SLOWLY. http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Teflon_tape

If you want to buy jewelery I recommend bodyartforms.com super highly. They have every size and material you could ever want so there's no excuse for stretching with inappropriate materials.

I've been trying to find this picture a girl I know (& Don't like, one bit) posted of her foot tattoos (Which are rather nice) & she had the FILTHIEST floor ever, no one commented on the tatts at all, just kept mentioning the floor, it was very funny, but I can't find, so I have evidence to back this up.

Those cirlcles are really cleanly done. They look ace.

I got my microdermal removed today. The morning after a looooong night out, I woke up with it being almost completely sideways, and eventually it started to come out on its own. I hadn't had the time to go get it done, plus my piercer was out of town(At the APP convention, doing speeches, heck yeah!) for awhile. I went in today and traded her James' Vegan Brownie Pie for the removal. She thought the pie was fantastic! And it whole process was quick and easy and it looks a lot better now, and I got to keep my insidey bit. My chest is feeling way better now that it is gone.

Less painful, and more just awkward and weird feeling. Of course I didn't go super big with mine. But it just feels kinda strange. Like "Oh that thing in my septum just got bigger, I can feel it again, hmmm..." I also found it more difficult, because unlike my ears, my septum hole doesn't really get any looser in the shower, so it was difficult to get my tusk in.

Guys I finally heard back from the tattoo place where I want to get my Alice half sleeve done!

Hopefully I will be able to get it either the end of June or in August sometime (I am working around when we have the big training venue for derby so I don't have to miss super fun group contact POW).

I am exciiiited. The tattooist I like has been on holidays but she gets back tomorrow and should be contacting me sooooooon! EEEEE

UPDATE: Should be going in on June 19!!!!!!!!! (I have been planning this for so so long!)

I finally got my bar changed today to a shorter one! It feels so strange without the extra length, but I am loving how nicer it looks being all neat and flush against my lip (well there is a tiny bit of extra length, but not enough to notice). I also talked to the lady (Bernadette) about how I would go about stretching my ears, as they have a heap of gorgeous spirals on display in the store, and she essentially what I have seen said by Steve; don't use organic stuff when stretching, I should start with some glass plugs then try the spirals when the ears are comfortable with it all. She also said my holes as they are will probably stretch to 12g pretty easily, so I think that will be my next thing. That will probably have to wait a bit, though; I would like to leave it until around/after Christmas, but I can see me waiting a month before deciding to go for it. We'll see.

Ok. The definitive stretch according to Rizzo:

1. Pierce your ears, allow them at least 6 months to completely heal before even contemplating stretching.
2. Go to bodyartforms.com or your local piercer and buy a good quality pair of steel tapers/glass spirals/horn spirals in 10g or 8g.
3. Assuming you've started at 12gauge/2mm you can easily move up to 10g or 8 within a month.
4. Have a hot shower and clean out your piercing. Put the new jewelery in to the point that it feels a little tight but not at all sore. Do not use lube as this only encourages you to stretch beyond what your ears are ready for.
5. Over the next 2-3 days slow push the jewelery through until it is completely in.
6. Leave it like this for at least 2 weeks. Ideally a month. Purchase new jewelery one size bigger, keep the old stuff in case you need to downsize.
7. Rinse and repeat until you reach your desired size. Each gauge increase should also increase your healing period by at least 5-7 days. So by the time you get to 10mm you should be spending around 6-7 weeks before you think about going any bigger. Your body needs lots of time to acclimatize. And it's not a fucking race.

8. If your ear starts to hurt after stretching you may have made a minute tear in the skin. Soak it in saline/1 part sea salt to 4 parts boiled water for 5-10 minutes twice a day. If it doesn't improve after a day downsize your piercing. It it blows out, becomes discoloured or bloody, downsize immediately (stopping only to thoroughly clean the area with antibacterial soap).

Some people recommend different materials for stretching but it really depends on your body. You'll come to know what works for you within a few months. Be prepared to spend a decent amount of money on stretching materials. Think of it as ensuring a decent stretch.

OK, ARE WE COOL NOW? Sorry if I'm being patronising but I'm sick to death of seeing poeple who have literally ruined their ears doing it wrong.

I also went to the piercers today to ask about getting elliptical rings for my eyebrow. They have them in the surgical stainless steel but I was hoping to get them in niobium (which is black titanium). Apparently I may be able to get them made custom but they would be very expensive. I'm waiting on the jeweler to try making them to see if it can be done and then they'll get back to me with a quote. Also spoke to them about getting a labaret with a ring and they said I should start with the bar and change it later. Now I just have to work up the courage to do it.

The piercings I want to stretch have been there for about 18 years, so I mean, you could wait that long if you want to be really, really sure about it all.

I am probably gonna go see the polymorph people again before I decide about whether I am gonna actually stretch 'em, but if I do then I will probably just leave the second holes I have to close up, and stick with the stretched ones. I will probably be the annoying kinda customer who wants to look at all the different bits and bobs and get them to talk it all through.

Yeah, you aren't meant to even change your earrings for six months post-piercing. For noses (obviously you do not stretch your nose) it's a full year.

Yeah dawg, 6 months. Your ears need to be completely healed, free of scar tissue and be somewhat loose around the jewelery. You can do it sooner but it's gonna be harder for you. If your ears aren't already pierced you might want to talk to your piercer about piercing at a larger gauge. It'll hurt like fuck but you can jump to 8 or 6g straight away. I personally recommend starting at 10g and waiting 4-6 months.

I did notice that it was the same guy (the tattoos were what i checked), that is why I said "that guy with even bigger stretches". Oh god, some of the photos in that first article are terrifying!

The second piercing in my left lobe is now 3mm. In a months time I'mma go up to 4mm then I'll just use tape on a plug until it's up to 6 or 8mm. This is the first time I've stretched with spirals. They're not bad but I think I prefer using tape over spirals or tapers. But still, exxcciitinnng.

I feel like they may end up regretting half of it in a few years and not be able to do anything about it. I like body mods and all, but only to a certain point before they stop looking fantastic and just start looking odd and sometimes downright ugly. (Like that guy's nose.) But that's just me. Hee! Polymorph is having a $10 piercing weekend coming up and I am thinking of getting my eyebrow done, even if I can't get the elliptical rings in niobium. Stainless steel will probably still look rad and this is going to save me about $80. I'm also thinking of getting some more rings for my ears but I'm wondering if getting both ears and my eyebrow is going to be too much at once especially for me to sleep with.

Thoughts?

Naaah, get it all done, man. You might end up losing an hour or two of sleep every night, but I imagine you'll still make it out alright. Plus you'll then have loads of rad piercings.
