Tim Burton!!!!
happybirthdaygelatin:
Why the hell does no one mention Pee-Wee's Big Adventure when talking about Tim Burton? That right there was his best movie.
Kid Modernist:
Ed Wood is a great movie, any way you slice it.
Laurie:
I wasn't too impressed with Corpse Bride, but I didn't demand my money back from the box office. I think the worst part was the pretty catchy song that you couldn't understand a word of. I called the plot with little trouble, but it was still a nice movie to sit and watch for the sheer joy of watching shiny things move.
I'm waiting to see MirrorMask before I hand Tim Burton or Jhonen Vasquez the Master of Macabre title. I know Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean's work, I'm just hoping the movie is as good as the preview looked. Little less than a month now until the DVD comes out.
I don't think Burton is overrated, I think he's good at what he does (usually). Willy Wonka was good, but I agree with neomang5.
And really, if you can find movie merchandise in Hot Topic, it's pretty obvious he's commercial. That doesn't necessarily make him a bad director.
KharBevNor:
The masters of Macabre are Edgar Allen Poe and HP Lovecraft.
Burton's pretty cool however. Getting erratic in his old age though. I love his early films and shorts (up to about the mid nineties), but his latest stuff has kinda fallen flat with me.
La Creme:
His early stuff is awesome.
His new stuff is based on the formula of his old stuff.
Originality >important Pure Entertainment Value
Therefor, he was good but isn't so much any more.
