Tim Burton!!!!

--- Quote from: kid_militia ---How can someone say "good Burton movie" and not say "Batman." Seriously, if there is a Batman movie that MUST be seen, its the first one. Perfect style, perfect characters. Michael Keaton will always be Bruce/Batman in my eyes, and Jack Nicholson will always be Jack Napier/the Joker. Burton created the only true Gotham for me.

"Hey Eckhardt! Think about the future!" *Bang*

I was also glad at the mention of Peewee and Beetlejuice, too, as well.

Quoted for absolutely true thruth. Does Batman 2 worth it?

I saw Beetlejuice when I was a kid, and it like, marked me or something. Effing ugly dude in the striped jacket. I like stripes now.

Also, am I the only one who liked (a little bit) more The Corpse Bride than  TNBC?

noggin_the_nog:
i'm not raving mad about Tim Burton, however i do like most of his films. my favorite is one of his first short films called "Vincent" which is a stop motion film and it is narrated by Vincent Price.(who i loved anyway). but I didn't really enjoy Corpse Bride. I thought it was visually beautiful and sweet but plot and story wise i really didn't enjoy it and i was kind of sad. I love Ed Wood and most of his others. I love his style.
If you get a chance read his childrens books. They are wonderfully dark.

--- Quote ---I don't think he's one of the most overrated directors, he certainly has a unique style, but most of the people I've met who adore him are not actual movie buffs.
--- End quote ---

excuse me? ACTUAL MOVIE BUFFS?whats wrong with just liking a film?what, because i like tim burton i have to be a movie buff all of a sudden?thats like saying"you can't watch Spirited Away because YOUR NOT an anime buff!"

as for the rest of what you said, i don't have enough time to explain how ridiculous you are for saying it.

supatyouKERI:
Tim Burton is exceptionally clever.
I'm a big fan of his and Danny Elfman's. They make a great team.

KharBevNor:

--- Quote from: I Am Not Amused ---If anyone who has been mentioned in this thread is overrated, its Edgar Allen Poe. At least as a poet.
--- End quote ---

Er, no.

EA Poe - Alone

"From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view."

You might not get it, but the unique truth Poe uncovers here, for me, makes this my favourite poem ever. Poe is in my only over-rated by people who, generally, aren't familiar with all his works, if you see what I mean.

Burton, however, has indeed done some stinkers. I still stand by saying the quality of his output is generally declining. His first short, Vincent, was pure brilliance. For those commenting on Burtons mastery of colour: well, he was originally an animator.

thehoopiestfrood:
Mars Attacks! was my favourite childhood film.
