New to Indie!

Nick Cave's Havalina:
May I suggest once again THE PIXIES. That is a good start there. But also the Jesus and Mary Chain, Blonde Redhead, the Replacements, Sonic Youth, Robyn Hitchcock, and PJ Harvey.

Triangle_Man:
I dove right in. My friend and I printed off the recommended listening page, pooled our funds, went to the local record store (specializing in indie music and just a few blocks from my house) and splurged. We got: The Flaming Lips, Enon, THe Arcade Fire, Enon, Mogwai, Sonic YOuth, The Decemberists, Modest Mouse, aaand thats it.

The Walkmen as in the band that did the song, 'The Rat'??

They are awesome.

They are a bit wierd, though. They may put off some people new to the genre. Still, Bows and Arrows is accessable enough, I'd say. I think most should wait on Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone. Both of them are great, but, you know, the wierdness.

Bunnyman:

<among others>
Death Cab for Cutie
Kanye West
Nine Inch Nails
Outkast
Radiohead
The Strokes
Weezer

Pick randomly. You're bound to like one.

Remind me again what Indie means.  I seem to have forgotten.

a pack of wolves:
I get why the rest are daft selections, but why not Death Cab For Cutie? I mean what else could they be? And please don't say emo, because, well, they just aren't.
