Essential metal albums?

KharBevNor:
Well, I like a bit of thrash myself, but my favourite thrash bands are things like Tankard, Sabbat, Sodom, early Skyclad, Pariah, Kreator, Nazgul etc.

I have absolutely no problem with Cannibal Corpse and Deicide being tongue in cheek. Fuck, I like Cattle Decapitation, and have no real problem with Deicide, just I've always thought they were pretty generic and unadventurous compared with, say, Vital Remains or Decapitated.

And no Entombed on yer list?

Man, with all the other shit I've been listening to lately, it's hard to squeeze in all the essential bands without missing exiting new ones.  Entombed is on my list to check out, but lately most of my music listening has been a balance between the punk/hardcore of my youth, and my expanding interest in country, and in (mostly American) death metal.  Also tiptoeing into Black Metal.  And NWOBHM.

Seriously, my top three bands/artists right now, in general, are David Allan Coe (drunk country), Suffocation (LIEGE OF INVERACITY!) and Patriot (OI!).  I'm spread thin.

I won't argue about it here, but man, whenever I hear a metal fan say that, there are words exchanged.  Oh yes, many words.  At least you didn't say you hate Motörhead.

Hey, I don't mind debating it, because I'm right. But Motörhead is great, and thus I see no need to argue there.

Jed:
Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper, Something Wild, Are You Dead Yet?
Impaled Nazarene - Absence of War Does Not Mean Peace, Rapture
X Japan - Vanishing Vision
Cradle of Filth - Midian

Can't think of anything else right now.

Best impulse buy I've ever made.  Picked it up at Borders one day because the cover art caught my eye, listened to one track in the listening station and slapped down my credit card on the spot.

It's the little gems that make life worth spending money on.
