Half Japanese.

Oh wait, they don't have a Japanese person in their band. The IRONY!

Does early Soundgarden count? I'm not sure if Hiro was Japanese or just had Japanese parents.

And Naked City was/is great.

Naked City
Enon
Hey Willpower

cibo matto is my favorite band of all time - have you heard the new miho hatori?  there are some great songs!  i like enon, but the japanese lady doesn't sing enough.  that ex-brainiac guy should share the mic some more.

as long as we're on the subject of half japanese, i think jad fair designed an album cover for my dad's band in the 80s.

Don't forget Blonde Redhead's nominal forebears, and one of the best bands ever, DNA.

And on the subject of Blonde Redhead, I'll never understand how this band could record a song as mind-blowingly awesome as "In Particular," and then make the very mediocre Misery is a Butterfly. :(

My thoughts were Enon and Deerhoof but oh, they've been said. I'll go now.

No they didn't. They did live in Japan, constantly had songs about anime, and one of them was in Melt Banana, which is where I got confused.

They're still better than all the other bands in this thread though.

El Presidente.
And she's hot and plays drums in a dress.

Edit: My bad, she's actually from Singapore. Oh well.

I can't believe people forgot James Iha of The Smashing Pumpkins and A Perfect Circle!  Didn't he make a solo album that wasn't that bad?

The bassist from Feeder is Japanese.

I'll leave it at that.

Which reminds me: Sean Lennon.

And if you don't count Sean because he's only half-Japanese, remember that Yuka Honda was in his backup band.

I hope I am doing this right, I am new to this whole forum thing.

I just started listening to Blonde Redhead a couple of weeks ago. All I have is a burned copy of Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons but I love it. I didn't even know the girl in the band was Japanese, but that just makes me love the band even more because... well.. Japanese people are simply awesome.

I also agree with Tago Mago that "In Particular" is a brilliant song, but I've never heard of Misery is a Butterfly. How many albums do Blonde Redhead have out exactly?

Quoted for trueness and the mention of Melt Banana.

I also heard somewhere that one of the members of Merzbow was Japanese or something... ;)

Seriously now, I don't want to troll here, but this topic is somewhat unnecessary. Having someone from Japan in your band does not in fact influence your sound or make your band any better, I'm sorry guys.
Otherwise, I might feel obliged to start threads like "3 OR 4 GUYS FROM CANADA, USA OR THE UK IN A BAND = AWESOMENESS AMIRITELOLZ?" and throw tons of bands that fit into this category at you and that I consider awesome.
