That'd be rather hard.  You see, my playlist is on my mp3 player (visiting my parents for spring break and did not bring my computer), and it consists of 874 songs.  It ranges from Coltrane to The Crown to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Nightwish.

Post bands rather than songs.  That's what I did, since I'm in roughly the same situation as you (just with fewer songs).

Right now my playlist is everything on random. So 7778 songs. I guess I could list them but it wouldn't be fun for anyone.

It's the only song I have heard by them, but I can't stop listening to it! I want to know more of this mysterious band. I'm pretty excited to go see them next month.

My playlist is all my music on shuffle. It is currently 241 hours long.

If I'm in the mood for something specific, I find it in my library, click on it, and turn shuffle off.

It works well.

...  Well, there are a number of groups in that list that could be shot for no loss to humanity (they've made music that's listenable, plud a lot of that music is to placate passengers I have in my car), but I'd say well over 50% of the groups to which I listen are definitely a benefit to music.  As I mentioned, though, my mp3 player is primarily used for my car, so I can't really have any of my favorite artists on there because the dynamic contrast is far too vast.

I have too short an attenion span for playlists.  If I make one I'll change my mind avbout it three songs in and want to put something else on it.

So I just use 'random' or listen to albums.
