We've got to stop meeting like this.
-
so no comic tonight hu? does jeph not believe in spare keys now?
-
Yelling bird, at least?
-
In before fanboys bawwing over no comic. You know what? I will throw down the memes oppressing my language! Grammar will triumph!
Soon, fanboys will be crying due to the err in Jeph's update schedule.
-
chill. its a website. itll get updated children.
-
That means either an early comic Monday or maybe two, on Monday?
-
You know, it says updated Mondays thru Fridays.
It's not Monday yet.
Chill people.
-
who knows? i think if we knew, then we'd also know what the cartoon was going to be and we wouldnt bother being here.
-
It's Monday for me. :D
-
OKAY thanks to @dishliquid and @rstevens and SKULLDUGGERY there WILL be a comic for monday. hooray? about 1 hour ago from twitterrific
I don't know who dishliquid and rstevens are, but thank god for SKULLDUGGERY!!!
-
Bah, I can't get twitter to show up on the home page for me anymore. Anyone know how to get it back?
-
The Internet sure is a great place.
Germsuits,not so much.
Poor Hannelore,thats gotta suck.
As for Martin,he could try growing a pair, who knows i would like to see what a ballsy Martin is like.
-
Yay! I was wondering when the comic would go up...
Still love Dora's new hair. Also, I know OCD has very little to do with logic, but one is exposed to one's own germs all the time. Being in the open air doesn't really help as far as I know. Ah well. Dare I say Hanners looks cute in whatever that suit thing is called?
-
the haz-mat suit is a classy touch. and doras expression in the last panel was hilarious, in a way that reminds me of girls i know, who tend to call me an idiot and boss me around. fuck. i have no self-esteem. i see where marten is coming from most of the time.
-

Hanner's super cute in anything.
-
Dare I say Hanners looks cute in whatever that suit thing is called?
I agree
Big time.
-
Next - Naked Hanners passed out on the couch. :D
She does look cute in that suit though.

*creep* *creep* *creep*

you haven't been here long enough.
-
Today's comic is exactly why I love this strip.
Martin's expressions and fear of naked!Hanners, Dora's nonchalance and sweet helpfulness, and Hanner's... hannerisms.
It's just so priceless and perfect. :)
And I agree, this fixation on getting poor Hannelore naked is much more than a little creepy.

:? heavyoak dont you always get yelled at by the admins about that anyway?
-
:? heavyoak dont you always get yelled at by the admins about that anyway?
I'm used to it.
also I don't waver from lusting.

Dora's hair looks great. I think I'm finally starting to get used to her and Marten being a couple instead of Faye. The more laid back she is, the more I accept it. She was kinda high strung before, and she's definitely mellowed out, while still keeping her personality. Nice work, Jeph.
p.s. I know, I know, I kinda held on a little too long to the Marten and Faye thing...I still have hope deep down.

Hope springs Eternal
And they lived happily ever after in Spain after they fled the country
-
I think that Marten and Faye are actually going to hook up when Dora gets too possessive or something like that.
Then Faye will pop in and take Marten for herself, of course there are going to be problems with Dora and such.
-
Today's comic made me laugh. I see myself in Hanners all the time, but today's actually happened to me (minus the HAZMAT suit)

Marten -- TAKING CHARGE!
-
As much as I hate saying this about a cartoon character...
Jeph's illustration of Dora is of an attractive female archetype. If that were a real person, I would find myself extremely attracted to her.
(And that's how you do it in a non-creepy way. :P)
-
I don't find any of the QC characters hot! I must be abnormal.
If I were to like any of them, though, it would be Wil. Social ineptitude for the absolute win!
Also, poor hanners.
-
you haven't been here long enough.
You have been here for much too long.
-
Dora knows how to make people do what she wants, that's for damn sure.

I tried to resist pointing this out, but I couldn't resist the pull of the irony.
"Err" is a verb, from which "error" is formed as a noun. <.<
I really like the way that Dora's hair has settled in. For, you know, a complete change in topic.
[Also, agreed with whoever it was that said the non-creepy... thing.]
-
You can just hear the "PING!" noise going off in Hannelore's brain in Panel 3.
-

I concur in the least creepy way possible.
But with Wil and Penelope out of the way for now, the world once again revolves around Hannelore. I utter a mild bleh, let's hope it won't evolve into a vehement bleh throughout the week. :<
You ask one, maybe two times for more Steve and Meena and he becomes an anti social alcoholic, but the Hanners creeps keep getting fueled no matter what mumble mumble

You have to admit...THAT took Balls!
-
Curt, I expected you to post the one when Faye passes out into Marten's crotch... xD Always a classic.
Hannelore's expressions cracked me up and made me say "AWWW" at the same time. >w<.
-

I thought it was more of a 'snap'.
That was a very tactful comment made by Dora, wasn't it? :P
-

Tact was never Dora's strong point. I've always disliked that about her.
-
I am so glad for Dora's lack of tact.
It's nice to see SOMEONE who can pull it of. :)

there's no such thing.
i still dont like dora's hair. it looks sloppy

I was going to go on a little "they doth protest too much" tirade about people who say lusting after cartoon characters is creepy, but I have made a conscious effort to not be as snarky on the boards as I used to be. However, I do think it's perfectly normal to find cartoon characters attractive, and extremely unfair to persecute people who make a passing comment on how they think a character is pretty/hot, and I think the persecution is caused by a couple people deciding it's creepy and everyone else feeling the pressure not to admit that they see one of the characters as attractive (given all these roundabout ways of saying it trying to sound as "non-creepy" as possible, I've done it myself to avoid the stigma). Now, on the other end of it, it is a little disturbing to see someone on every thread talk about how much they want to sanitarily bend Hannelore over, I don't go around writing up all my kinks on the forum, and neither should you.
So, long story short:
1) it's not weird to find them attractive, so calm down.
2) it is a little weird to post your graphic desires [no pun intended] so publicly, you calm down too.
Basically everyone be calm.
-
i dont think its creepy to find them attractive. personally i find dora to be quite pretty. but i think its creepy to want to have sex with/ see naked cartoons.
-
Must. Not. Direct. kgbisouttogetme. To. pr0ns. Boards. On. 99chan!

I loved today's comic. I always feel so bad for Hannelore. I have a friend who has OCD, and who used to be almost as bad as Hanners. She reads QC now, and she loves it. :D We always joke about how she is Hannelore.
-
Haha welcome to the forums btw, nice first post, better than most first post, but not as great as others.
I wonder how they will calm her down now.
Wait what happened to Winslow? and Pintsize?
-
Wait what happened to Winslow? and Pintsize?
Drying out somewhere, I assume. Winslow might be in a specialized suit of his own to make sure he does not get out and pass her germs onto someone else.
i dont think its creepy to find them attractive. personally i find dora to be quite pretty. but i think its creepy to want to have sex with/ see naked cartoons.
Completely agree. The more I read these forums, the more concerned I become over the incessant drooling over Hannelore. I think we have all, at one time or another, found a cartoon/comic/manga character to be attractive, but seeing them naked? That is a bit much. My hope is that people are just spewing facetiousness at every turn just because they know how creepy it sounds. On to my main two cents...
Dora's hair is actually beginning to grow on me. I looked a little too scraggly when we first saw and, since it was such a dramatic change, my first thoughts were automatically, "Nope! Do. Not. Want." The more I see it, though, the more I like it. I cannot wait to see when she cuts off all of the black and goes just blonde. Perhaps she is leaving her goth "roots" and growing up a little?
I love the expression on Hannelore's face when they ask where she got the suit. I think she is fibbing. There is probably a store somewhere in the city where the clerks know her by name because she constantly buys them out of industrial-strength cleaner and other things, like Hazmat suits.
No one seems to comment on this sort of thing often, so I think I will just pop this into my two cents as well: Jeph's comedic talent really shows in strips like this. Nothing is said or done in Panel 3. In fact all we really see is the change in Hannelore's expression and he lets our imaginations (for lack of a better word) do the rest so that Panel 4 is just full of hilarity. Jeph does this a lot and these comics always crack me up harder than any other.
-
I still don't like Dora's hair either, but then again, I think two-toned hair in general is ugly.
-
I kinda like the new hair, its nice to see someone change hair color, not just the style its in.
And as for people screaming "OMG NEKED HANNERS DROOL" and yelling about HanTai,they can lust, them can dream they can do whatever they want, they can even look for the naked pics,as long as they dont go around bothering me,or anyone else that doesnt want to be a part of it.
As for Hannelore's Hazmat suit,i think her dad might have given it to her,or maybe she made it her self.
Who knows.
-
I think Dora's gonna look good in long blond hair.
I think Marten's gonna enjoy being the main squeeze of a girl with long blond hair!
:D
-
Yes, but the scraggly ink-dipped look doesn't work for her at ALL.
-
Ah, the Breast Pits of Sexicon Eleven... a tough job, but someone's got to do it.
-
Of course. Pintsize would sentence someone to work in the Breast Pits of Sexicon11. (where are Sexicon's 1-10? Probably Vegas, now that I think about it)
Warning - while you were reading a new drone has been sentenced to work in the breast pits. You may wish to review your post.
Spoilsport.
-
WOOT new comic!
Hahahaha Pintsize is such an ass hole, get thing Martin got there, but then again,if hes there, hes not with hanners, witch means they fixxed the problem. Yay For all!
-
that reminds me of when i freak my friends out when we're high. theyre so damn gullible when theyre stoned. hahah next time im telling them theyre gonna have to work in the breast pits.
-
I think Winslow is the stand-in scapegoat, since we can't morally fuck with Hannelore. Although my GOD would it be fun...
-
I wonder if that's where Ecentrica Gallumbits came from. :D
Seriously though, I love the way Pintsize is messing with Winslow's mind here. Thank goodness Marten was there though otherwise I think Winslow would have suffered a Harddrive Freeze!
-
youd want to mess with hannelore? man, youre mildly evil... thats like tripping retards or pushing over pregnant ladies... true itd be fun, but its also sadistic.
im a fan of that.
-
I wonder if that's where Ecentrica Gallumbits came from. :D
She's actually from Eroticon Six
-
She's not real, and she's also in this comic more than the main character is (which I originally thought was Marten but I don't even know anymore). I am passive-aggressive.
"So Hannelore, did you hear that there's a new disease that doctors have just discovered? It affects skinny blondes with green eyes... Yeah, it causes blue slime to ooze from the soles of your feet. Nah, I don't think you'll get it..." ::leave apartment, then wait outside door for the screams to ensue after she discovers the blue gelatin you planted in her shoes...::
-
hahaha do you want to go eat some food in front of hobos with me? hahahaha
-
No, but I will invest in a sandwich to throw down between two of them and watch them brawl.
-
youre my hero hahaha
-
See, this way, I'm technically doing something moral -- feeding the homeless. However, I gain a little sadistic amusement from the affair. ;D
-
I notice that the last-panel expressions on Hannelore's and Winslow's faces are nearly identical. I think it's one of those pet/owner things, but with robots. Everything is cooler with robots.
-
"Working in the Breast Pits is a sweet gig!"
Pintsize is Frickin' hilarious. I wish we had the technology to create Anthropc/ Persocoms. This is probably my favorite of strips staring the bots.
-
Best post I've seen in weeks:
2) it is a little weird to post your graphic desires
I bequeath you my internet.
I have to say Jeph is doing some excellent facial expression work lately. #1315 was a gem. I also find it interesting that Marten, a guy whose mother is a dominatrix, gets freaked out by skin. I'm not in any way claiming it's odd, but I do wonder how Marten became such a Vicky*.
I am also relieved that I am no longer in any way attracted to Hanners when she's in her natural, bug-eyed-as-all-hell state.
Re: tonight's strip, I agree with Jeph. Breast Pits are, in my experience, quite a sweaty place. Every blessing has a cost.
*Neo-Victorian, for those of you who've not read The Diamond Age.
-
Looks like Winslow lost his eyebrows in the post-snow freeze... Maybe a bios/firmware update will get them back....
-
you haven't been here long enough.
You have been here for much too long.
the best example of "no you".
-

Yes, you are.
-
No, you.
-
I really hope Dora does not go full blonde. Ew, blondes.
...I believe Hanners. The internet is a weird place full of weird things that you can purchase, like Russian amputees.
...Poor Winslow.
That is all.
-
I think blonds are attractive. Thing is, there are a good bit of blonds in the comic already. Dora adds a bit of spice.
Jeph probably got tired of the whole "dora and martin look like incestuous twins" joke.
Winslow should realize in the Great OS wars of 2025 apple OSX prove to be too weak and pansy to handle against the heavy weights.
-
Today's comic is just really, really nice . . . this is the type of back and forth humor that drew me in to QC in the first place.
Plus it reminded me to go get my ipod out of the car before the Alberta Clipper hits.
-
I think Dora would look weird blonde. Blonde hair just... does not suit her personality. Still, change is fun!
Maybe she could dye it some other colour? Brunette Dora? Redhead Dora? Blue-haired Dora?
Instead of doing my homework, I am here speculating on a comic character's hair. ._. Off to play Myst instead - that's slightly less weird.
-
lol, red head Dora? Wouldn't that conflict with Sweet Tits?
-
Considering Sweet-Tits isn't an actual QC character and just filler - no?
-
See I'm not creepy.
No more than the rest of us.
-
Yes, but the scraggly ink-dipped look doesn't work for her at ALL.
your opinion is wrong. :p
-
I think the fact that she hasn't cut off the black hair makes it Dora.
If she had actually gone and cut it so she was a total blonde, it would look much weirder.
Plus the two-tone look is probably a way to ease us into seeing her with such a drastically different look. Not to mention it's interesting to see someone with long hair - and we'll not count Penelope because she has it up almost always.
-
I think Dora would look weird blonde. Blonde hair just... does not suit her personality. Still, change is fun!

Ah, the things this place drives me to. According to this possibly superficial site http://www.hair-styles-secrets-revealed.com/hair/261/how-hair-color-influences-personality-perceptions/ (http://www.hair-styles-secrets-revealed.com/hair/261/how-hair-color-influences-personality-perceptions/), Dora should go with red. Everything else I read claims Heranje is a horrible, evil stereotyper. I simply think she finds speculating about Dora's locks beats homework. Which it does.
Actually, to me, blond hair does suit Dora's 'inner' insecure personality (I'll admit it's gotten a bit more 'outer' lately), but in a weird way—, as some of the sites I looked at pointed out, quite a few people with blond hair (including most of those I've known) got it from a bottle (or box, as the case may be), not their genes, and dyed their hair blond to feel more attractive; in other words, to bolster themselves. The insecurity some of these folks are struggling against sometimes manifests in some rather unpleasant ways, similar to Dora's fit about Sven and Faye. OTOH, the two of the few real blonds I've known, one male and one female, were both rather intelligent, all-around nice people, which goes again animé hair-color stereotyping, anyway.
-
[...]
OTOH, the two of the few real blonds I've known, one male and one female, were both rather intelligent, all-around nice people, which goes again animé hair-color stereotyping, anyway.
THANK YOU.
I'm sorry for the slightly off-topic comment, but thank you SO MUCH. I'm a blonde, and intelligent, and generally a nice person.
It aggravates me to be stereotyped in that way.
Bottled blondes give natural blondes a bad image. Especially with all the jokes/stories/etc about bitchy, stupid blondes.
Anyway, yeah. Hair colors does not tell who a person IS.
It tells their GENETIC CODING.
Obviously in the case of Dora, it wasn't so much genetics as Jeph's mind, but the same thing applies - just because her natural hair color is blonde doesn't mean it goes against who she is... It's just a part of her physical description.
-
Hair color doesn't have a thing to do with it unless your hair's dyed, imo. People who keep their natural hair color are obviously comfortable with it, and therefore comfortable with what nature has given them. People who dye their hair see something wrong with themselves and set about fixing it.
Sorry, but I am INSANELY vain about my hair, and am ridiculous. I admit it. :-D
-
well at least its only her hair she changed. getting a boob job is way more ridiculous. or any plastic surgery for that matter
-
See I'm not creepy.
No more than the rest of us.
thanks... I think.
-
well at least its only her hair she changed. getting a boob job is way more ridiculous. or any plastic surgery for that matter
Concurred. Plastic surgery, such as boob jobs, for the sake of vanity gives me full license to laugh at you. Then again, I'm well endowed in that department as well, so it may just be more snobbery. But I don't even like mine, so I don't know why anyone would want huge boobies. Back pain ftl.
Reconstructive plastic surgery, however, is A OK. 8-)
-
dont worry heavyoak i still think youre creepy.
also... i shouldntve said plastic surgery i shouldve said cosmetic surgery. i agree reconstructive surgery is more than fine.
-
nora eating hanners....
t minus 3 seconds till bad jokes.....
still noras hair looks nice in this one..
-
dont worry heavyoak i still think youre creepy.
also... i shouldntve said plastic surgery i shouldve said cosmetic surgery. i agree reconstructive surgery is more than fine.
Cosmetic surgery surpasses all logic for me. If heavily prodded, I could begin to understand some kinds of cosmetic altering such as something to augment hypertrichosis or even breast implants for a woman who had had a mastectomy, but just doing it simply because current mainstream society tells people that they should look a certain way is baffling.
Moving onto the comic, Hannelore looks like she has got more than just the flu. It kind of looks like chicken pox (or small pox; you never know what Jeph might be thinking) and I think she will need a lot more mothering before she is well again. Also, Dora's hands look really weird in the second panel. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but they just look...weird.
-
Poor Hanners. Poor poor Hanners.
I wonder how Faye is holding up with this weather.
-
doras a cannibal? what a twist. (m. night shyamalan voice)
-
Hee. Heehee. I am trying desperately to stay out of the ship-to-ship warfare going on in these parts. But blanket-Hanners in panel 3 today looks adorable.
And hooray for terrible pun punchline. Does that count as a pun? It does, right?
-

That is an epic hivemind. Exactly the points I came on to make. Blanket Hanners made me audibly D'AWWWW.
-
I'm not saying hair colour shows you what a person's like - just that, with all the stuff Dora tends to do with her hair, I couldn't see her leaving it blonde. Also, in a comic strip, appearance can reflect personality much more than in real life.
I know a lot of natural blondes - most of my friends are blonde, in fact. (My living in Norway might have something to do with the amount of blondes I'm exposed to) And I have nothing against people with blonde hair or anything. :P I just think that colour doesn't suit Dora.
Anyway, this is a pretty silly discussion.
-
MOM NOM NOM!
-
I lol'd
-
Todays comic was funny ^^
On another note, Marten taking charge, badass style http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=697
-
That is an epic hivemind. Exactly the points I came on to make. Blanket Hanners made me audibly D'AWWWW.
Isn't it surprising what kind of an effect an artist can create simply by leaving out the character's body?
Dora's hair appears to be improving still. When I first saw it I just thought "Um, no." but now I think it looks really good. Maybe because it's less springy.
-
God forbid Marten should ever knock up Dora. That would be a disaster.
I actually think that will be the next big drama, but it will be Faye and Sven, not Marten and Dora.
-
alas, a lame joke
-
Hahaha. You're funny. I highly doubt Jeph would pull a pregnancy into the comic. :-P
-
My first thought was that it was foreshadowing, but... no, I don't think so.
-
God I hope not. This comic is dramatic enough without throwing a kid into the mix.
Also, does anyone who is not a rabid Hannelore fan feel that Jeph is overdoing it with her a little bit?
-
Well, I'm not a rabid fan of Hanners but with any story that involves a choice amount of people, it's going to seem like one of them from time to time is being featured. It happens in sitcoms, stories, etc. Going through the archive you'll notice there are days that focus on this character then it shifts to another. It keeps the comic/story moving in a way we wont understand until we get to the climactic moment that Jeph has prepared.
-
Just seems like it's all Hanners lately. I'm bored with her. She's cute, but she's not interesting. Hide in apartment, freak out over minutia. Yes, I know, OCD, but still. Yawn.
-
God I hope not. This comic is dramatic enough without throwing a kid into the mix.
Besides, the world only needs one Anders Loves Maria. (That's not a knock against ALM at all, mind you. If I were going to bash a comic for a pregnancy storyline, I'd have brought CAD into the mix.)
-
I'm not sure why but Marten reminds me of Quagmire in the last panel.
-
Does doing the "Mom nom nom" make one a "Nom Nom Mom"? (I don't really know what this means, but it beats the post I was going to write about vomiting.)
Back to an earlier topic: it occurs to me that Jeph is having Dora grow her hair out blond simply because he's tired of Martin-Dora clone snarks. I think there was something about this in the QC twitters.
Of course, Dora may simply be changing it. Some girls (maybe guys , too, but I've yet to meet any) simply cannot keep their hair the same for more than seven days. I taught a night class once in which there was one student whom I could never correctly name, because every week her hair was a different style and/or color. Drove me mad(der?).
Anyway, this is a pretty silly discussion.
You're right, of course, but when you get down to it, 'pretty silly' describes most of the discussions on WCT. Which is why I love it so.
-

I think Hanners is sweating. She probably has fever with chills - bad news, but nothing overly alarming.
Dora is gripping the blanket in panel 2. I'm sure it's tough to draw that, let alone drawing hands in general...
-
Awww Dora the big sister moment. :D
I wonder if they'll get Tai involved with Hanners care.
-
Besides, the world only needs one Anders Loves Maria. (That's not a knock against ALM at all, mind you. If I were going to bash a comic for a pregnancy storyline, I'd have brought CAD into the mix.)
Great, I'm just about to post something like that when my internet fails on me. And when I get back online someone has beaten me to it. Fffff. °_°
Anyway, remember my mild bleh (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,22164.msg758888/topicseen.html#msg758888) uttered earlier? No, why would you.
Be that as it may, it turned into a firmly established bleh today.
Well, Jeph was right (http://twitter.com/jephjacques/status/1107881372). =) <3

well I think CAD doing the pregnancy storyline was just Tim's excuse to add a serious mood to the comic for a while
-
Heh, in panel 3, Hanners = Kilroy...
-
Moving onto the comic, Hannelore looks like she has got more than just the flu. It kind of looks like chicken pox (or small pox; you never know what Jeph might be thinking) and I think she will need a lot more mothering before she is well again. Also, Dora's hands look really weird in the second panel. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but they just look...weird.
I think Hanners is sweating. She probably has fever with chills - bad news, but nothing overly alarming.
Dora is gripping the blanket in panel 2. I'm sure it's tough to draw that, let alone drawing hands in general...
Yeah, you are probably right about the sweat. I was just hoping for some kind of pox, you know? You never hear enough stories revolving pox. :)
On Dora's hands though, I completely agree that hands are fantastically difficult to draw, but it is just because they line up perfectly with the sides of her body in that panel that raises my eyebrows. Normally, when someone is holding something in front of them, the lines and shading that give a 2D image a 3D appearance would dictate that her hands would appear a little farther apart from the sides of her body because her hands and what she is holding would be closer to the viewer/audience/whatever. I know I am nitpicking, but it still just looks a little odd to me. The only reason I even mention it is because it distracted me for a moment as I reading.
-
Oh, Hanners. Keep on being cute, we'll never see it coming.
More Wil on the road, I say! His friends seemed so...charming. Wholesome, even. You don't find men of that caliber where I'm from, certainly.
-
Faye's classical reference definitely tops Penelope's.
-
As a Classics major I am drooling here.
Why can't my friends and I have witty conversations about historical figures?
-
hmm i dunno... i like that theyre both great greek references but theyre two totally different peices of literature.... it couldve been better executed had they stuck with the same book
-
I don't see how sticking with the same piece of literature makes any difference. If anything it proves how vast an understanding one has of Greek literature if they understand both references.
-
Continuity error!
I can't find the strip, but I distinctly recall Sven hitting on her a LOT one time.
-

As a Classics/History double major, I wonder the same thing.
Also, what's happened between Faye and Sven these past (#) weeks/months?
-
Also, what's happened between Faye and Sven these past (#) weeks/months?
I guess we are able to find out pretty soon.
Well, my hope is that Sven is just baiting Faye, but since the cup is actually half-empty, I will just assume he is a tried and true jackass.
-
Continuity error!
I can't find the strip, but I distinctly recall Sven hitting on her a LOT one time.
Yeah, he was complimenting her. He called her pretty.
-
I found the strip: http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=906
I guess not a continuity error.
Of course, there could also be the "messing with Faye" angle, too.
-
I swear every time I see a strip with Sven in the back of my head I'm yelling "HE IS SUCH A CAD" - But I suppose Faye knew what she was getting into. Still, hitting on Penelope right in front of Faye? Sven is asking for a beat down.
-

Methinks Sven just enjoys poking the bear.
-
Careful Sven, Greek drama's generally don't tend to end well for guys like you.
And baiting Faye isn't exactly good for your health!
-
......wait............. medea killed her children.........
i suppose that we learned that both dora and faye would kill their own kids....
so i think we can assume there wont be any spawns showing up anytime soon.
unless hannelore gets pregnant by a toilet seat or something
-

Interestingly put...
-
Sven being who he is, I'm pretty sure he doesn't even remember meeting Penelope before this instance.
Wil: 'Zounds, the most beautiful and intelligent girl has whisked into my life, carried by breezes of sweetest summer blossoms of romance!
Sven: Oh yeah? Who?
Wil: She is called Penelope, a lovely name for an equally lovely woman!
Sven: Penelope... Penelope... Is she the chick on Fourth who has a really great rack and blue highlights in her hair?
Wil: ::twitch::
Sven: Then I have no idea who you're talking about. ::yawn::
-
He's totally trying to make Faye jealous!
-
yeah, whatever. I just think that Sven just showed us all what big of an asshole he really is...
-
Agreed. I mean I held out hope for a little while that it was just a big cover, him being the douchebag he is, but honestly, if after the time jump he still feels the need to antagonize Faye, he's more than a little childish, and kind of obnoxious to boot.
-
why do i seem to be the only one who cares about the characters' tenancies towards Filicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filicide)?
-
Because we're not surprised.
-
The hell? How is Sven a jackass??
They don't have an exclusive relationship. They don't even have a relationship, period--at Faye's insistence, not his. Sven can flirt with anyone he wants.
Faye would be the asshole for getting all possessive when she's the one insisting on it being what it is. She can't have her cake and eat it too.
-
Hmm, no, this time I dont think he's serious at all. He's curious about Pen and he obviously has fun teasing Faye. At lot.
Faye would be the asshole for getting all possessive when she's the one insisting on it being what it is. She can't have her cake and eat it too.
She doesnt have a real relationship because she's unable to have one, not because she doesnt want one.
-
why do i seem to be the only one who cares about the characters' tenancies towards Filicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filicide)?
I don't like kids.
-
She doesnt have a real relationship because she's unable to have one, not because she doesnt want one.
So what? Why should Sven have to have his life dictated by HER neuroses? That's like someone who has a cat allergy demanding that none of her friends ever adopt cats.
Whatever the reason, the situation is: They are friends with benefits. They do not have a relationship. At Faye's insistence.
Sven can do what he likes.
And also, whatever her feelings PRIVATELY, she has said several times that she wouldn't want a committed relationship with Sven anyway, and that their little arrangement works because Sven is just someone she likes to have sex with, but wouldn't want to date.
So. Again, it's not Sven's fault that she says one thing and means another.
-

But even then he's a cad and a bounder - Penelope's Wil's girlfriend!
-
The Medea comment definitely one-ups Penelope's, so I was thinking - maybe Faye was subconsciously trying to impress Sven. Like her brain was thinking "Sven likes girls who can reference classical literature? I shall do it better!".
Maybe.
-
I'm going to hope Sven only wants to wind Faye up and not just make her feel like crap here - yeah they don't have a relationship, but discretion still exists. Flirting with someone else in front of her isn't a coincidence at all.
Man, I didn't think I'd say this, but I almost want to see Angus again :-P
-
Unless Faye and Sven's relationship has changed in the intervening time so that they are exclusive.
Although Faye should remember that he's allowed to look at the menu, but he has to eat a home...
-
...Border, that just gave me the mental image of Sven and Faye as a married couple and I have to say it made me very sad. Like watching a kitten get curb stomped.
-
I would've been more impressed had Penny referred to Helen of Sparta. As-is, Faye wins this round.
-
Well imo Faye and Sven balance each other out pretty well in terms of being a bitch/dick (which has nothing to do with their relationship being well balanced, mind you :-D). No reason to single one of them out in this regard.
(I'm more on Sven's side though - Bros before Hoes, man.)
In any way I enjoy the show. \o/
-
@stevh11 - Except he said he would be into her "if Wil didn't have dibs" He stated specifically that since she is involved with his friend he is NOT interested. So how is he a cad in this situation?
-
Jeph man, this is all round awesome charterer development right here this week!
I'm loving it like a good ale on lees.
To hell with next week, the average remains exceptional!
-
Personally I think both Sven and Faye wouldn't mind being in a relationship together, Sven can see that Faye gets a bit jealous so he is just winding her up waiting for her actual outburst of saying she wants it to be exclusive.
Either that happens or Faye decides she's still not ready for a proper relationship.
-
I have to say that the thing that strikes me the most is how clinical Sven is being about it. Penelope is probably more non-plussed than she'd be if he was just flat-out trying to flirt because he's coming at it from such an odd angle. (From Faye's standpoint it probably doesn't make much of a difference.)
I'm not going to say whether Sven's being a jerk or not. He's just being strange.
-
@stevh11 - Except he said he would be into her "if Wil didn't have dibs" He stated specifically that since she is involved with his friend he is NOT interested. So how is he a cad in this situation?
Um, because he's getting all up in Penelope's face analyzing her physical attractiveness out loud? Forget Faye entirely for a moment; you can't just do anything you want, hitting on girls obnoxiously like that, and expect it to make it all gentlemanly by adding a "hey, I won't really *do* anything" at the end.
-
Man, I didn't think I'd say this, but I almost want to see Angus again :-P
I did think I'd say it, but I'm glad someone else has beat me to it.
Although it occurs to me that if Jeph really wanted give Faye's detractors a Roman Holiday, he'd have Faye meet Angus on the street--along with Angus's nice new girlfriend.
I'd also like to point out what a lovely brother Sven must make if this is how he behaves when he thinks he's got the upper hand.
-
Remember, kids, we did have a time jump of 3-6 months. Which is a sizeable amount of time to still be just fuck buddies. The nature of their relationship may have changed -- maybe it is exclusive. Then again, maybe a stop has been put to the messing around, and Faye doesn't want to see another girl messed with?
Honestly, we don't know the context here, so it's very difficult to pass judgment without knowing what's taken place during the time jump.
-
The hell? How is Sven a jackass??
They don't have an exclusive relationship. They don't even have a relationship, period--at Faye's insistence, not his. Sven can flirt with anyone he wants.
Faye would be the asshole for getting all possessive when she's the one insisting on it being what it is. She can't have her cake and eat it too.
quoted for complete truth.
Faye's already said she doesnt want a relationship, therefore Sven's a free agent(and having said that, have we seen him doing anything much at all since he hooked up with Faye anyway..?) If anything he's forcing her hand by not letting her have her own way; if she wants to be exclusive with him then she's going to have to acknowledge that and trust him, otherwise he's not interested.
If anything, Sven is pushing her in the only way that'll ever loosen her up.
-
That's true enough. I think Sven and Faye suit each other and that Sven has come to realize that and is pushing Faye into accepting the fact in the only way he knows how. It may be, in the long term they may not work out, but I think that they will more likely wind up in their version of the Marten/Dora relationship.
-
I have to agree with masquerade; we don't really know what happened in those 3-4 months of the time jump. I have a feeling that Faye's remark may be the basis for tomorrow's comic (and I could be totally wrong, but I could see Jeph doing that).
-
I could be dead wrong, but I'm not really expecting a huge change from this unknown time lapse. if there was a huge plot element to be done wouldnt Jeph have built up to it and shown it? the feeling i'm getting is that the story's been moved on to advance the characters, both in their arcs (Anyone see Marten + Dora issues coming up?) and in their appearance (Dora's hair, etc)
-
Here's something I've been wondering for a while: does Hanners still smoke?
-
No, she's said that she gave up smoking. I don't remember the exact comic, but it's the same one where Dora offers her two hundred bucks for cookies.
-
Hmm...I must've missed that...time for me to scour the archives then XD
-
...Border, that just gave me the mental image of Sven and Faye as a married couple and I have to say it made me very sad. Like watching a kitten get curb stomped.
But isn't kitten curb stomping supposed to be fun?
-
I like Faye's collar/sweater combo.
-
@stevh11 - Except he said he would be into her "if Wil didn't have dibs" He stated specifically that since she is involved with his friend he is NOT interested. So how is he a cad in this situation?
In the sense that "if Wil didn't have dibs" translates directly to "hey I'm blatantly hitting on you, but pretend I'm not hitting on you because I don't want to have to acknowledge what a total douchebag I am."
-
Hannelore Gave Up Smoking (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1046)
-
Ha! I remember now lol. Yeah, trying to read through random strips took too long, and I got distracted by rereading a bunch of old ones anyway :-P
-
For those considering Sven to be a cad, consider that he hates coffee.
(Evidence: http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=328)
Thus, he must have another reason to be there, such as to see Faye, perhaps?
-
Eh, in all honesty. Yes I think Sven is being an ass. Just because your in an open relationship doesn't mean you don't have to have tact.
-
Ha! I remember now lol. Yeah, trying to read through random strips took too long, and I got distracted by rereading a bunch of old ones anyway :-P
I totally understand the "getting distracted by rereading old strips", but I do keep a database (pretty well imperfectly) of the old strips, so I can find some stuff fairly quickly.
-
I agree with the people who think Sven and Faye are good for each other. They both throw each other off balance and ever since the walked out on him the day by saying that it shouldn't happen again he's hanging around, when there's clearly been a history of him jumping aorund other girls prior to sleeping with Faye.
I think he would be actively flirting with Penny if he weren't so interested in faye, but he doesn't understand how he feels which is why he can be nothing but clinical about noticing Penny being attractive. I also think he's doing it because it'll get Faye angry and I think he gets a kick out of making Faye angry because he can't deal with her any other way. Anger is easy to deal with, because you can walk away blameless, but when it comes to squishy feelings, no one walks away blameless.
To summarise... Sven is confused...
Sorry, I could have just said that in the first place.
-
For those considering Sven to be a cad, consider that he hates coffee.
(Evidence: http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=328)
Thus, he must have another reason to be there, such as to see Faye, perhaps?
He has gotten coffee from them before, and has said that his coffee would kick the ass of CoD coffee.
It is just a plot hole, don't think much about it.
-
I thought that was the point of the forums... To overthink everything (something I am EMINENTLY qualified for)....
-
dont worry heavyoak i still think youre creepy.
also... i shouldntve said plastic surgery i shouldve said cosmetic surgery. i agree reconstructive surgery is more than fine.
thanks.
Hee. Heehee. I am trying desperately to stay out of the ship-to-ship warfare going on in these parts. But blanket-Hanners in panel 3 today looks adorable.
And hooray for terrible pun punchline. Does that count as a pun? It does, right?
That is an epic hivemind. Exactly the points I came on to make. Blanket Hanners made me audibly D'AWWWW.
yes epic hive mind. also, HANNERS IS NOW THE CUTEST INTERNET GIRL EVER!!!!
-
big build up for a mediocre joke. meh....

I can't wait until you people run into these situations that you're arguing about now, in real life later.
You will be so prepared.

i dont think heavyoak is ever going to run into hannelore on the street........

Methinks Sven just enjoys poking the bear.
Methinks that too. And I enjoy watching Sven poke the bear. Bear deserves it.
Faye would be the asshole for getting all possessive when she's the one insisting on it being what it is. She can't have her cake and eat it too.
And she deserves every little frustration Sven can visit upon her for being the raving bitch she is. I just did a happy dance.
Too bad. Sven's an asshole and he jerked the chain and got the reaction he wanted.
I've got a big bottle of Boo Fricken Hoo for Faye, but you know what? I'm gonna drink it instead and give her the empty bottle, because that's all she deserves.
Although it occurs to me that if Jeph really wanted give Faye's detractors a Roman Holiday, he'd have Faye meet Angus on the street--along with Angus's nice new girlfriend.
Stop it. I don't have a bottle of Cognac yet with which to celebrate that blessed event.
Soon, though.
Thus, he must have another reason to be there, such as to see Faye, perhaps?
Or to deliberately flirt with Penelope in order to jerk Faye's chain.
Methinks he likes poking the bear. Oh wait...someone else said that already.
I think he would be actively flirting with Penny if he weren't so interested in faye, but he doesn't understand how he feels which is why he can be nothing but clinical about noticing Penny being attractive.
I read the strip recently the last time he flirted with Penny, and he said, "I can't help it, I don't know what to do around beautiful, intelligent girls..."
It really was a hilarious strip, because the harder he tried NOT to flirt, the harder he flirted.
I can't wait until you people run into these situations that you're arguing about now, in real life later.
I already have. That's why I'm taking such joy in Sven's psychological manipulation of Faye.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Now, off to buy some Cognac just in case Jeph decides to have Faye meet up with Angus McPhee and his new girlfriend, who looks and acts a lot like Faye, only with a tenderness and obvious adoration for Angus, so much so that Faye could easily see herself in that position, and she gets to angst about it.
I would SO drink a snifter of Cognac in celebration of that strip.
Thanks, Jeph!!
Woohoo!!
S

Also a belated LOL at the possible interpretations of Sven "poking the bear". :-D

Are you kidding? He already has the cardboard cutout and everything. He's planning it.
i tip my hat to you sir. i literally just fell out of my seat laughing. hahahaha

HOW DO YOU KNOW MY PLANS... J/K
no I don't. and I wouldn't try to.

Yea that was funny. rofl

Was anyone else distracted by "r escape jew" and desperately want to know what the rest of the sign says? Maybe it's just late....
O and hey all, been reading for a while, great stuff Jeph! Bed, Coffee, Work, night!
-
I was distracted by that adorable cat in the last panel.
... I wonder where they're headed.

my best guess.

Houdini was an escape jew.

Woohoo!!
Wow haha, someone's enjoying himself! :D

Why to the Bat-loft of course ((c) Rene Engström)
Also STOP AND GIEV KITTY SUM FOODS! D:
-
I was distracted by that adorable cat in the last panel.
... I wonder where they're headed.
That cat tied with the joke. xD
I did notice that Faye's expression barely changed at all in the last three panels...
I wonder if the empty case had jewelry in it?
-
I can't imagine that we're actually going to see any plot progression over this perceived x-months jump in time we've seen. I think it's better for everyone to just see it as a sudden change of weather and miracle hair growth until we actually see plot evidence of the time jump. So far the closest we have is Wil's postcard.
It's interesting to see how much the comic has changed. I remember a while back I'd find it a little annoying that Faye always seemed to come out on top in the QC world, usually through beatings. It's a real change to see her bumped down so far and is one of the areas I think there's been some really good writing.
-
Well come on now, officer, someone was gonna do all this smack, so it might as well be me!
Hey! HEY! Lemme go! Get those handcuffs off! HEY!!!
-
Was anyone else distracted by "r escape jew" and desperately want to know what the rest of the sign says?
There's an upscale jewelry store in Northampton named Silverscape Designs, in a grand old Art Deco bank building that has windows something like that.
-
Does it look like Faye has angel wings in panel 2?
-
Is it just me, or is there a cat panhandling in the last panel?
Either that, or it's stuffed and on sale. I can't tell which.
-
Does it look like Faye has angel wings in panel 2?
Yeah, a little. Though it does make me wonder why [Silve?]r Escape Jewelry hangs its display wares on an old ribcage. Maybe it's just really frickin' metal in there.
-
could also be the pectoral fin of a manatee.. hmmm...
-
TEH KITTEH LOL !!!
-
ESCAPE, JEW!!
-
Yeah, a little. Though it does make me wonder why [Silve?]r Escape Jewelry hangs its display wares on an old ribcage. Maybe it's just really frickin' metal in there.
The rib cage looking thing is outside the window, not in the store.
-
The hell is the thing coming off Faye's shoulder??
-
poor kitty cat... :-(

S
Whoa, why all the Faye-hate? She hasn't done anything bitchy for a while. And no matter what the status of their relationship, Sven shouldn't be commenting on another girl's attractiveness right in front of the girl he is/was banging. Thats just rude. Props to Faye for calling him out and trapping him with her logic. Also...we get it: you like cognac.
-
Somebody feed the kitty!!
-
"r escape jew"
I'm thinking "Your Escape Jewelry"
Not a bad title for a jewelry shop.
As for Faye Hate, yup...I'm enjoying myself.
MWAHAHAHAH!!!
S
-
Aww, so much hate for Faye. I feel kinda bad for her. I mean, yeah she IS a huge bitch. But she's a little broken.
And as for anyone being mad at Sven or Faye for their reactions...well thats just silly. Sven has admitted it before, they antagonize each other. Its just what they do and I'm sure they're both very used to it and frankly it never stopped them having a good time before.
::Cut to mondays strip::
Bow-chika-wow-wow.
-
Hey, at least Sven is being honest with Faye here and is not trying to hide what he is! And Faye really has nothing to complain about, she knew what she was getting with Sven, yet if I read the Timeslip right, they're still together after all this time which shows that despite it all, they do have feelings for each other, even if Faye is slightly more in denial about things than Sven appears to be.
And is that Shi in the last panel there? :D
-
Whoa, why all the Faye-hate?
You mean aside from the fact that she's been a physically, mentally, verbally, and emotionally abusive bitch to everyone around her and expects a free ride BECUZ I'VE GOT ISSUES LOL?
-
I love the kitty.
-
And no matter what the status of their relationship, Sven shouldn't be commenting on another girl's attractiveness right in front of the girl he is/was banging. Thats just rude.
Well, with Faye, yeah, but I just thought,
what if Marten commented on another girl's attractiveness infront of Dora? Dora'd probably be all like, "I'm so proud!"
-
Don't get me wrong, she deserves some of it, certainly not a free ride, but she isn't always a bitch. I don't think they would all be her friend if she was.
I think its a bit extensive though. Everyone has issues, its what makes the characters realistic. And in really life some of your friends are a little abrasive or snarky but they have redeeming qualities too and thats why they are your friends.
-
Every character has been a bitch/bastard in the past. Even Marten :P
I actually think Faye is less of a bitch nowadays, she can still be abrasive but I remember when she used to throw people across the room and Shanghaied Penelope into working for COD...it feels like she's been trying to tone that down and deal with her issues instead of using them as an excuse, but no-one can just change their personality overnight.
...I've been defending Faye a lot, and I probably wouldn't even like her IRL. I guess I'm just rooting for the underdog. :-P
-
Hmmmm
Could be Sven's mellowing her out.

Faye has certainly become a much more sympathetic character since she stopped carrying out cartoon violence on other characters.
-

Nah. I think she was starting to mellow a bit even before she and Sven got together. In fact, there is a possibility that the reason she "succumbed" to Sven was because she was beginning to mellow.
Even though I do not agree with the level of physical abuse we saw from Faye in the beginning, I still like her very much and her character was what kept me reading the comic. She is very forward and more or less to the point about everything she says. Yeah, she can be a little cold and sarcastic, but that is just who she is. If the others had such a problem with her, they would not have tolerated her, not matter how much of a pushover they may be.
-

Keeps ME reading the comic too!
Yay Faye Misery! *Hic* Bitch!

Continuity error!
I can't find the strip, but I distinctly recall Sven hitting on her a LOT one time.
It bugged me enough that I found strip 906 here. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=906)
"Compliment-Tourettes" Hurr Hurr....

Whoa, why all the Faye-hate?
You mean aside from the fact that she's been a physically, mentally, verbally, and emotionally abusive bitch to everyone around her and expects a free ride BECUZ I'VE GOT ISSUES LOL?
Yeah! That's what I was going to say...er...well...kind of?
That, and Faye reminds me of someone I knew once, so Faye gets all the bottled-up Hatorade. It's therapeutic.
And just for the record: I don't KNOW if I like Cognac. It's just that Cognac is kinda the "Top Shelf" of Brandy...and while Brandy isn't my favorite (But she WAS pretty good - *rimshot*), I'd buy a top-shelf liquor and pour myself a snifter in celebration if that amazingly wonderful reality-bitch-slap to Faye occurs.
So just in case that happens, I'd like to...you know...be prepared...just in case.
You know, carrying a condom in my wallet...just in case.
Or carrying pepper spray...just in case supermodels try to kiss me.
Hey, it's a reason to buy more booze I may eventually drink.
I haven't even finished this bottle of Skyy yet.
I hope to in the next couple of months though, especially as Sven continues to "Poke the Bear."
S

Yay Faye Misery! *Hic* Bitch!
Faysery.
-
Methinks Sven just enjoys poking the bear.
Woohoo!!
S
Sure, except the character was a dick to Penelope, who's you know, totally blameless. But don't let that get in the way of your raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaging Bitch-Hate.
-
Hmmm...is "flirting with" the same as "being a dick to"?
I mean he tells her how attractive she is and how he would so totally get with her if she wasn't already with Wil.
He's being a smarmosaur. But I don't see her as being upset, only mildly annoyed. Whereas Faye is over there blowing a gasket.
At greatest interpretation, I'd call Penelope's hurt feelings if there are any, collateral damage.
So I'll agree that Penelope didn't deserve to be used as part of the tool to Poke the Bear...
...but she was. And if I took a governmental position, I could simply say with a glib look on my face, "The Ends Justify The Means."

Which is to say, he was being an asshole to Penelope, which you think is okay because of your all-consuming Bitch-Hate.
Thank you for agreeing with me completely.
-
Or we could just say the truth!
Faye is a bitch. One with very little self-confidence in the romance department, which exacerbates the condition.
Sven if a bastard.
Penelope is an innocent bystander...
...So, really, both of them are at fault.
I feel bad for Penelope, personally. Poor girl, shanghai'd into a job, subjected to abuse at said job on a daily basis, falls for a complete lunatic who goes off on a motorcycle, and now she's becoming a stick for Sven to poke Faye with.
-
and now she's becoming a stick for Sven to poke Faye with.
Maybe Pennelope (I know she hates it pronounced that way) should eat more.

God, Faye is my best friend incarnate. She handles things exactly the same way, has the same sense of humor, the same temper, and even resembles her. Also, their names rhyme. It's weirding me out more and more.
