Another week, another poll, another thread.
-
For the sake of Jeph's health, sleep and sanity (whatever's left, anyway) I voted for guest strips duing comic con time.
-
According to his Twitter page, he's not going.
-
I'm pretty sure Faye already has taken a liking to her. She learns fast and takes initiative, the lil' scamp.
-
According to his Twitter page, he's not going.
Massive bummer. :(
Poll changed appropriately.
-
Calling someone a larva is, from Faye, a friendly gesture. Then she followed it with positive interaction likely to appeal to someone like Sam.
-
jeph always gets the best guest comics
-
Well, when you consider he's friends with some of the best WCA's around (Milholland, Corsetto, North, etc.), great guest strips are to be expected.
-
omg
-
I'm just waiting for Danielle Corsetto's guest strip.
It is rumored to make Randall Mulholland blush, and that takes some doing!
-
squeeeeeeee *_*
*splodes*
-
Marten is obviously still stressed-out about dancing.
-
Cute overload.
Reminds me of the Peanut's dance scenes from teh cartoons.
-
That was disturbingly adorable...
-
So adorable! Winslow makes me happy.
-
This is way too cute.
The sweetness of this is causing me to go brush my teeth.
-
I like how the book that marigold is holding says dance.
-
Sassy fingersnap Faye! Awkward shimmy Hanners! Stressed-out Marten! AHHH TOO CUTE!
-
Dance Dance Revolution, QC edition!
I wonder what songs would be used in such a thing?
-
Wait...
Where is teh Dora?
Is she officially a B-lister now?
-
Blister?
-
hannelore's so cute she's gonna give someone diabetes.
-
Dance Dance Revolution, QC edition!
I wonder what songs would be used in such a thing?
As always Mari-Gold skips out to read her mangas
-
jeph always gets the best guest comics
Yeah, and today's is especially good. After Jeph mentioned that he was looking for guest comics, I made a guest comic, but I never sent it to him since I figured it couldn't compete with the others he was getting. Maybe I'll post it in the fanart thread.
-
You should do that; and you should send it to Jeph anyway. Even if he doesn't use it he might still get a kick out of it. For the lulz and all that.
-
Duddadum duddadum dum da dum
duddadum duddadum dum da dum
-
Or link it here if you want.
-
Sure. Here's the link (http://cesiumcomics.com/img/qcguestcomic.png).
-
Hahaha, I like how Sweet Tits collaborated with Biggus Dickus.
-
I did NOT expect that. I'm not sure I'll ever look at GWS the same way again, knowing it's creator had this madness in her head somewhere.
*applauds* Well played.
-
OH GAWD THE GOATSE
-
Maybe one more guest strip this week, I didn't realize how much I needed some time off to recharge and recover.
Take the week off.
-
How I learned to stop worrying about googling everything and love Danielle's work.
*Wave at Blue waffle Randy*
This trip set a new record. Well played, well played

Today's outbreak of QC character tweets (https://twitter.com/#!/jephjacques/qccast) is not for those of a delicate disposition...
-
Judging by his material, Yelling Bird should be banned from the Internet.
Or introduced to 4chan.
Dear god, that'll be worse!
-
UGH! that is one messed up cloaca, Yelling Bird needs to stop with the insertions.
-

I don't know what's better, the Tweets or the twittering of Yelling Bird...
-

I emailed it to him this morning, and he didn't respond to it. The pessimistic side of me is guessing he probably didn't even read it. Oh well.
-
He's said that he reads every e-mail he gets, but obviously doesn't have time to respond to them all. No harm in trying.
Also, you know Marten, a lot of nerd guys would be happy to be playing D&D with three cute girls, two dildos and a robot. Just sayin.

I see Pintsize has been going thru The Book of Erotic Fantasy. (http://www.ebook3000.com/Book-of-Erotic-Fantasy_16405.html) And maybe a little of the Book of Vile Darkness. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Vile_Darkness)
-
Good to see Marigold coming out of her shell... I guess it's just a matter of a comfortable environment!
-
Increasingly, I'm noticing that all the dirtiest/most risqué comics on the internet are done by women.
-
Like today's Dresden Codak guest comic (http://dresdencodak.com/2012/05/08/guest-spike/).
-
I finally decided to archive binge GWS. Made to 555 in a couple hours. Jeph gets awesome guest artists.
-
That he does - and there are some guest strips that could almost become canon.
-
Which is less safe for work: Boner Cat or Cock Golem?
-
Definitely Cock Golem.
-
I know I'm late to the party here, but is "SNEAK ATTACK BITCH" an OotS reference (Haley)?
-
Increasingly, I'm noticing that all the dirtiest/most risqué comics on the internet are done by women.
I wonder why that is? No seriously, why is it like that? I was always led to believe that men had the dirtier minds.
-
First thought before seeing final Panel - 'Pintsize?? ...... Yup, that's Pintsize.'
-
First thought before seeing final Panel - 'Pintsize?? ...... Yup, that's Pintsize.'
My thought before reaching the second to last panel was, "So where is Pintsize in all of this... Oh God! I had to ask."

New comic:
What damage has Sam done to Faye?!!
-
Sam's a fast learner! Also, good for you, Dora!
-
Hahahhahaha. THUD. :-D
(sorry for the lack of eloquentness but haven't finished my morning cup here)
-
For comic #2184...
1. Back again from another QC hiatus due to RL. How some of you people manage to post on every strip, I envy your time...
2. While I very much liked Dora's previous longer black hair design (http://jephjacques.com/post/11272156115/random-drawing-of-dora), I find this one just as acceptable. (I am just such a romantic sucker for the errant lock of hair across a pretty girl's face...)
3. "Faye?" [THUD]. And that is why I have mixed feelings about my children being able to physically defend themselves. Partly because I am afraid they might use such skills on old weary-boned me :-X .
4. Looks like Samantha now has a "replacement" for Padma's company. Perhaps we will see a nature outing with Samantha, Elliot, and Faye.
-
I feel like today's comic shows a facet of Dora's control issues again. Jim wanted to not share something (yet) with Dora which would possibly have been slightly hurtful to most people. When Dora finds out, she puts on this "I'm sane and rational and totally cool about it" show, but her motive is actually to stop Jim keeping stuff from her. It's not that Dora necessarily wants control over what Jim does (or she is aware that that's ridiculous), but having as much knowledge as possible gives her the same feeling of being in charge of her situation.
If I remember correctly, she did this to Marten after the fight about Cossette asking him out. She got mad that Marten didn't tell her, then a short while later she asked him about the girls he's attracted to. It also illicits the same reaction from the guys she's involved with - "Wait what? You're not upset?"
-
Faye, Faye,
NEVER teach someone a chokehold without:
a. agreeing on the signal to release;
b. knowing how to break it; or
c. Being prepared to do egregious violence to the person doing it to get out.
Since c doesn't seem an option here...

I think it's a little late for option c.
It's hard to visit egregious violence on someone when your collapsed all over the floor.
I afraid the Pugnacious Peach might be losing her edge. First Padma lands a blow to the face and now this?
-
With THAT stubble on his cheek he either wasn't trying very hard or she wasn't into unshaven guys. :P
(And if I interpret that "THUD" correctly, Faye is already lying unconscious on the floor and loosing bodily control... )
-
loosing bodily control...
Ew.
-
You have to receive a lot more damage to lose control of bodily functions than just getting knocked out. Otherwise you'd see boxers, MMA, professional athletes making a mess all over the ring / arena / field more often.
I hardly think Dora's trying to exert control here: it's a simple matter of not wanting to be lied to -- even a lie of omission. It is a little bit condescending to have people keep stuff from you because they think you can't handle it. If Dora's cool with Jim going on dates because she isn't ready / isn't attracted, then she oughtta be taken at her word.
Dora's expression in the third panel is pretty funny. Jim may be nonplussed and taken aback at the casual violence of the CoD, but Dora doesn't even bat an eyelash.
-
Hm... in my experience going unconscious means losing control of most bodily functions. If Sam interrupted the blood flow to Faye's head for roughly 5 seconds (give or take) it would be pretty much lights out for her for a couple of minutes.
Again, just my experience from doing self protection for almost a decade now. I'm not down with the medical details. :-\
@Carl-E:
Sorry. Enjoy your evening.
-
I'm hoping Faye taught her to just cut the blood flow and not the air, broken tracheas suck!
-
I've been unconscious many times and I have never lost control of bodily functions. Hell, I lose consciousness almost every night around bedtime.
-

I think you really have to hit your head pretty hard to lose your bowels/bladder, and I know that vomiting after getting clocked in the head is an indicator of a concussion. If you're unconscious and puking, it's an indicator of a severe closed head injury.
So, just being unconscious shouldn't cause puking or loss of bowels. It takes an actual brain injury to accomplish that.
-
Hm... in my experience going unconscious means losing control of most bodily functions.
If that were true, we'd shit the bed every night as we slept.
-
And we have to be specifically trained not to.
(Wasn't Sam thirteen on their first date? Did she lose a year?)
Well, it doesn't really matter, since Marten's the backup babysitter from now on...
EDIT: Oh, sure, THIS is the death metal interlude...
-

Wait, Marten? Did I miss something? Then again, if Faye is unconscious due to whatever she teaches Sam in the future, since she lives with Marten, hmm. Never mind, it makes sense now.
-
I'm guessing Faye thought she's be able to easily break out of it since Sam's a kid.
Faye's last thoughts: The Force is strong with this one.

Faye's last thoughts: The Force is strong with this one.
It was only her destiny as the chosen one to be trained in the ways of the CoD barristas though she was raised to become one with the Secret Bakery.
-
Yes, Jim said Sam is thirteen. If we assume she's something like 12.9 and that Jim was rounding up, then we don't have to resort to the hypothesis that QC is a work of fiction and that the author isn't 100% consistent.
-
I'm pretty sure the only in-comic reference to her age listed her as 13. If that's the case, then she's 13.
-

I was going to post something along these lines, but you pretty much encapsulated it. She just has this knack for subtle reverse manipulation that allows her to keep deniability while still exerting control. By couching it in reasonableness ("You don't have to do it behind my back") she's able to convince herself that she's not being controlling ("I wasn't telling him what to do... I was telling him what *not* to do").

I thought the whole "You don't have to do it behind my back" thing was a bit odd. If two people have been on a casual date *once*, does either of them have a "back" for anyone to do anything behind? Wouldn't that require some sort of continuing relationship? Obviously Jim felt there was an issue, but then he has broken the old rule: "Don't date co-workers or business associates", so awkwardness is to be expected.
Faye's last thoughts: The Force is strong with this one.
Quick, test her blood for Mandalorians...
-
I'm pretty sure you mean "midichlorians." Mandalorians were a Proud Warrior Race, of whom Jango Fett was the last. Having them in one's blood would be ... interesting ...

I thought the whole "You don't have to do it behind my back" thing was a bit odd.
I don't think so. He went out of his way to make sure she didn't know as a courtesy, and she was letting him know such efforts weren't necessary. I think she handled it well.
-
Sam's a fast learner! Also, good for you, Dora!
It's always good to start minion training early.
On a more serious note, I bet a lot of it has to do with Sam actually getting adult interaction for an extended time. I wonder if she spends a lot of time left to her own devices.
-
I don't know that Faye qualifies as adult interaction.
At least, not in this case.
-
Is it just me or does Jim look very Marten-like in the second and third panels?
-

Mmmnah, don't see it. Though, it looks like he got a hair cut.

I hope this was intentional... otherwise: Bwahahahaha! Made my day! :-D
@the unconsciusness thing:
Withdrawn. I'll have to confront my old teachers yet again for teaching me nonsense. -.-
@Jim:
And that soul patch still confuses the hell out of me.
-

We know she's not allowed to walk home by herself or be at home by herself. On the other hand, her dad probably keeps the long hours typical of a shop owner and doesn't spend much time with her, and clearly not enough quality educational time. At a guess, she's out of balance spending too much time with girls her own age.
-
Well, then, it's a good thing she met Faye... :-D :-D
-
Jeph's planning to stream the drawing of the comic again, using a different service (and aiming not to alienate them by using bonercat, which so upset both UStream and Justin TV!):

Re: 2185
That's some bonding right there, folks.
-
Aaaaaaaand there's my moment of the week. Thanks, Jeph. :-D
(edit: btw. if you couldn't tell I am referring to the mention of the swelling of the genital region ... sounded less dirty in my head... and vasectomies can reverse. °O)

Father of her future children? Sounds like Jim's still dating at about half his age...
Maybe plus seven or so... :-D

Ah yes... the Standard Creepiness Rule... (http://xkcd.com/314/)
Still, heaven forbid that Sam be asked to attend a divorce hearing anytime soon...
-
Father of her future children? Sounds like Jim's still dating at about half his age...
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
[In my early 40's I once dated at the boundary of the 1/2 + 7 rule and it was... different.]
-
Still, heaven forbid that Sam be asked to attend a divorce hearing anytime soon...
Good thing that her parent's divorce is final, then.
Still, it would be interesting to see her make the bailiff go unconscious...
-
Couldn't grill meat for a year?
Wimp
I was back at the BBQ the next day (of course I have a horrible sense of smell).
-
I never knew there were butterfly knives with perforated blades, but there are (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1rtexYtCQ1qgnfg3o1_500.jpg). I wonder if Faye habitually carries a blade ("Sneak attack, bitch!"). Oh... It's a training device (http://i1.squidoocdn.com/resize/squidoo_images/590/draft_lens2226967module24801612photo_1238621801sds1805.jpg) apparently; where's the fun in that?
And Jeph writes what he knows...
I hope this was intentional...
I usually troll the other way round when some fanboy starts raving about how awesome Mandalorians are, by burbling about what a stupid idea it was for Lucas to introduce force-greeblies in the blood...
-
Since when does Faye play with a knife at COD? She hasn't done it before. Why is she doing it now? Has she been waiting to a have an impressionable youth before engaging in this behavior? I don't get it. Perhaps something is going on with her. But I suspect no one is going to call her on it. I also don't see how neither Dora or Jim are reacting to her playing with the knife.
(And where is the rest of the COD staff?)
-
Ah yes... the Standard Creepiness Rule... (http://xkcd.com/314/)

Always thought it was weird the dating range for a thirty year old (according to the comic) was 22 (-8) to 46 (+16)... somewhere his math got a life of it's own. oO

You just gave half the nerd-population and half the troll-population of the interwebs both a weird nerd-partial and a crippling chill halfway down their spine.
... I salute you.

Technically, is a broadsword (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1649) a knife?
-
Pusheen/QC was definitely the moment of the week for me ;D
-
Father of her future children? Sounds like Jim's still dating at about half his age...
I remarried when I was 45 to a 38-year-old, and we discussed having a child (it didn't happen, but the reason is private).

22 is half +7 (30/2+7), and thirty is at the minimal range for 46 year olds (46/2+7).
-
I've gotten to the point where half my age plus seven seems around the age I feel.
But of course, none of the cultural references would make sense in either direction... such a woman would only know my TV references from Nick at Night.
-

Feh, I've known women my age who could not identify with my TV references. Being 1/2+7 my age could not help that.
And who made this formula, it doesn't work in reverse for me. I'm 44. That implies I'm still viable for a 74 year old on the prowl. I don't think so.

It's stated in the news post that it's a training knife, not a real one. Real butterfly knives are actually quite illegal in a number of states (and if not in the state itself, in a number of cities and jurisdictions).
-
MA in our world bans anything with a blade longer than 1.5 inches. On the other hand, CoD hasn't gotten in any trouble we've seen for having a sword.
-

Well, you've done the math for me, at least. I'm 74, but thinking she should be no less than 65... and a retired MI schoolteacher, who served in the Peace Corps, listens to NPR, can carry a tune (my first two wives couldn't) ... and ... yeah, it would be neat if she has a waist and acknowledges each of my puns. I don't care how; a groan or a Fayesque or Fayequed punch would do.
-
Vascetomies were in Penny Arcade too. It is better handled here, but still hugely exaggerated. From my experience, it was two weeks of discomfort followed by years of the best sex. There do need to be other forms of male contraception, though. I wish there had been options.
-
Redball, if someone over the age of 134 tried to date you, that would be creepy.
I think the 1/2+7 works for someone my age (24), 20-34 seems reasonable. Anything below 20 is just too low (and to be honest, I'm still weirded out by the idea of dating someone born in the '90s, which I guess now restricts me to 21/22 and up). As for over 34, 10 years is plenty, there's no reason to date someone older than that.
-
Redball, if someone over the age of 134 tried to date you, that would be creepy.
I'd never be able to get her out of bed.
-
No. No, you certainly wouldn't. :|
-
I'm really loving the dynamic between Faye and Sam.
-
It'll be fun if it continues, a real kid compared with an AI, and a new side of Faye.
-
The way Faye seems compelled to teach Sam things and that there's been so much focus on their interactions leads me to think Faye's going to learn something significant from this new relationship. Curious to see where this goes.
-
Let's hope it has nothing to do with maternal instincts.
Or maternal combustion, either...
-
Faye got the MUMMY vibes on the go.
Watch out Angus!
-

yeah, I think it's going to be a sudden blindsiding epiphany of some sort that shakes her footing

Welcome Wright!
If you do an archive crawl on Jeph's twitter account, you'll see that a while back he sent out a series of tweets about his own complications. He's definitely projecting them onto Jim but I doubt Jeph's trying to say that *all* vasectomies are like that :D (I hope not, anyway)
-
Ah yes... the Standard Creepiness Rule... (http://xkcd.com/314/)
Given that the creepiness is socially constructed, I thought its original formulation lacked a gender factor. I don't think the reaction to a 50 year old woman dating a 32 year old man would be the same as that to the same age gap where the genders were reversed.
-

Oh, but there is! Or will be, that is: http://contraception.about.com/b/2009/05/21/male-birth-control-injections.htm
Lasts for 10 years, and completely reversible.

Had my vasectomy when I turned 40 and our only child was five. I don't recall sizzle or smell, or discomfort for more than a day. But another recollection: My vasectomy was at Planned Parenthood in downtown Detroit. My wife taught school nearby. We lived in a near suburb. I worked in another suburb a little farther out. A coworker who got his vasectomy at PP about the same time lived even farther out. It made sense for my wife to drive both our required sperm(less) samples downtown on her way to school. The first was no problem; the coworker stopped by our house on his way to work, my wife left with both samples. But on the second one, there was a hitch: He was late. It was 7 a.m. Clara needed to leave. We saw his car turn the corner onto our street of homes on 40-foot lots, drive halfway down, pull over and stop at the curb. It remained for a minute or so, then started up. Jesse got out of the car, handed Clara the sample. She took off with his and mine. She told me his was still warm.
I've told this story recently. Hope it wasn't on this forum. Stop me if you've heard it before.
And if Faye strikes up an ongoing relationship with Sam, how can it not be connected with maternal instincts? That could take her in an interesting new direction, and not just with Samantha. But I'm still trying to comprehend (relation-)shipping, so forgive me if I don't have it down just right.
-
Not necessarily: it could be a big-sister thing or a virtual aunt thing.
-
Well, that's right. And she does have a younger sister.
-
I thought its original formulation lacked a gender factor.
Isn't this a good thing?
-

I'm sure there is a quantum age gap formula out there that accounts for all the areas where this simpler formula begins to break down.
Hmm, now that I have mentioned it, I must find this equation!!!
-
:-D

The system works to an extent (22 I would consider to be the lower limits for the equation, upper limits without having a significant age gap (i.e. old enough to be one's mother/father) would be in the early to mid 40's). Younger than that, stick as close to your own age as possible (and beware of dads with guns or baseball bats), older than that... well, make sure that there's a mutual agreement that it's not weird.

I realise we've moved past this by now, but I'm only just reading the thread - I have passed out three times in the last few years and the first time I did lose bladder control. I think it partly depends on how hard your bladder/bowels have to work to retain control - I needed the bathroom at the time anyway.

So, when I read Sam saying things about infected genitalia, I was of curse reminded f Pintsize.
Then horridly terrifying thought entered my mind: What if Sam met Pintsize?

I'm trying to figure out who would corrupt who first. Could it be possible that Sam might be a match for Pintsize? Maybe that is what Faye is training her for.

Remember how fascinated she is by robots?

Yeah, but all pintsize has to offer is porn.
Sam's 12/13.
This is just all kinds of skeevy.

She could use Pintsize to sample her cooking experiments.
From what I recall, that would mean two messes, hers followed by his.
