Obscure by Dir en grey. The song's alright, but what the fuck is going on that video.

spoon_of_grimbo

Thanks to a horrific harddrive crash, I'm in the process of re-ripping some 2000-odd CDs to a new laptop, and along the way I'm rediscovering some awesome stuff I haven't listened to in some time.  The latest rediscovery being Devin Townsend's "Earth Day."

Elysiana

Yeeeeees.

I was going to say I've been on a Devy kick lately... then I realized the kick has lasted a few years now, so yeah.

Zingoleb

That's not what drum 'n' bass is!

Also, I'm listening to a full orchestra do pieces from the Zelda series. I still feel gipped; there's a number of songs (Song of Storms, most notably, as well as, say, Bolero of Fire or Saria's Song or Song of Healing) that could have translated really well to a full orchestra, and yet, they choose to do such themes as...Kakariko Village? Oi.

Timez Are Weird These Days - Theophilus London

Great stuff.
Saving every penny like Inspector Gadget reruns.

Zingoleb

A Gregorian influenced cover of Stripped by Depeche Mode. It's actually *really good*.

Welu

I've been relistening a bunch to the Sherlock Holmes theme since seeing the sequel.

Music in Skyrim reminds me of Lord of the Rings. Sort of.

still it seems to have been written by someone else? she's got some style, though.

Zingoleb

I've been listening to 8-bit music tonight.

Like Cemetary Gates or Hysteria.

Theriandros

Spent most of tonight listening to Igorrr, and now I am thoroughly confused about how music works and why I like this stuff so much.

In summary, musical  :psyduck:.

(I would like some suggestions as to where I can find more, though)

That guy is quite a genious when it comes to textures, samples and layers of soundsif you ask me. Moisissure is a wonderful album.

celticgeek

Deathmole's Meade's Army album.  I am enjoying it, and instrumental metal is definitely not my thing.

I just discovered Jonathan Coulton this past week.
Listening to "So Far So Good," probably my favorite song of his that I've heard so far (along with "Big Bad World One" and "The Future Soon").
"And I don't know where I'm going yet, but it's somewhere quite a ways from here I'll bet..."

Zingoleb

Diablo Swing Orchestra has a new album out in the next month or so, so in preparation of it I'm listening to Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delirious. So psyched.

Jed

-30C outside right now... Laying on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee while listening to Mogwai's Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.
"To say that Columbus discovered America is by no means inaccurate! I discover things people already knew about all the time!"

Zingoleb

My friend, the ultimate hipster, plays pop-punk on her ukelele. The longest song is 1:57, and most are about a minute. I love how short and to the point they are, cutting out all frills while staying as fun as music can be.

SLFM

So fun! Go listen! She's on tour!

Out of high school for almost 3 years, this is my homework.
I'm late to the game with Mogwai and Jonathan apparently, but

Toy Box. Remember Toy Box? That band that

is making a comeback tour for 2012? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Welu

Got to talk about codes and conventions for three "very different" music videos. Not sick of the songs yet but I'll probably mute them soon enough. Spent most of the morning rewatching them.

The three I'm doing, I think:

Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats (Originally thought of Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl because it's the squeaky clean video despite dark lyrics, but figured I should have one pretty conventional video to talk about)

Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal [Full Version] (Still debating doing You Rock My World instead)

Bloodhound Gang - Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss (Wanted to do Ballad of Chasey Lane but thought the Uhn Tiss video was more interesting to analyse)

Mister D Nomms

Past couple days have been mostly KUKL and The Sugarcubes. I like songs that I'll never be able to sing.

No Welu you are doing Smooth Criminal and that is that, end of story, best song ever.

...and now I'm reading your name as Mustardy Noms.

I'm currently listening to, uh, Smooth Criminal.

IrrationalPie

Listening to fun.'s new album streaming from their site.

Me gusta.

celticgeek

I am listening to an old play list of Celtic music played by unknown to little known Celtic groups.  I haven't listened to it for a while, and I am enjoying it.

A back-garden neighbour (that we'd never met before) came round a week ago to complain about our dogs barking, and we discussed ways I could control this.  He emailed today to thank us for improving things, and then made some comments about my web site.  That led on naturally to pointing me at his folk group's website, which I have enjoyed listening to:

Moonrakers
"Being human, having your health; that's what's important."  (from: Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi )
"As long as we're all living, and as long as we're all having fun, that should do it, right?"  (from: The Eccentric Family )

celticgeek

Paul:  Fantastic!

Several weeks ago we were at the house of a friend, and he was talking about the Moonrakers.  I wrote down the name of the group but had not followed it up.  However, tonight I did, and I am about to download all of their albums from CD Baby.

I don't know why, but this reminds me of a story. When I was 16, I answered an ad on Craigslist to jam with some dude who ended up being my friend's dad. He was writing a musical about a bar.

It's not about the awesomeness of the song. It's about the awesomeness of the video and You Rock My World has a lot more references for me to talk about and more importantly, it's shorter!

celticgeek

This is interesting.  When I clicked on this song, my browser said that it was 1:45 long,
which seemed pretty short for a piece of Jeph's music.  However, it actually lasted 9:10,
which was more like it.

I liked the music.
