Good lord Claire has no chill.

In a "real world" situation this would almost certainly end in disaster.  Claire is way too high strung and order driven to function well in an organization that is so fundamentally chaotic, it would be a bad fit for both sides.
But since Claire is Jeph's favorite character and basically the main character at this point it'll probably be more of a Claire imposing order on the chaos situation and saving Cubetown sort of narrative with hijinks along the way.

I have no idea how you draw the conclusion that Claire is like the main and/or favorite character now. Yes, this is an arc about her. Before this we had acs for various other characters, and nothing  really for Claire since maybe when she and Marten had dinner with her mom, which was about 200 comics ago. Before that I'm not even sure when she was last featured in any significant way, I think at least ack to comic 4300 or so. In the meantime we've had various arcs about clinton and elliott, vtubing, Emmett, Roko an Yay, and others.

Not gonna lie, I wish more job interviewers were like this.

I mean, I'd still turn Moray the hell down if I were in Claire's position, but this is so much better than people asking you "why do you want to work for us" like they expect some answer that affirms the superiority of their own corporate monolith.
I lost my job at the end of March, and accepted a new job offer last week, I start tomorrow.

Anyway, that "Why do you want to work for us?" question is really irritating.  "Because you have a job opening, I'm qualified to do it, and I need a job."

We are interviewing people now, and luckily I am doing a segment purely focused on skills, because I agree that that question is rater pointless. People prepare for it because they expect the question, and people fib anyway to get through the interview. As such, the only point of it is to see whether they bothered to put the effort in to come up with an answer, but the answer itself is meaningless.
Same for the question "where do you see yourself in 5 years" or similar. For one, people lie because they know what you want to hear, and regardless of what people say, plans change for most people anyway so even if they say they'd like to grow in your company they may still leave within a year. A pointless question.

As far as 5 year plans go, I'm with Hanners on that one.

I'm wondering if she took the name off a former occupant.  She certainly wouldn't be the first AI in conic to play host to eels.

Remind me what Hanners said about 5 year plans? Was it something about just hoping she wouldn't have snapped and murdered her friends by then?

I hope Clinton finds out they're going and is all ASTDRYLUI;.UGILFUYKFAER YOU'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO ACTUAL CUBETOWN?!?! and Claire's like GET OUT OF THE CAR CLINTON

This whole operation is raising more red flags than a soviet military parade.

At this point it's more like one of those fabric facades covering the entire building.

BarGamer

And here I thought it was the janitor giving Moray the cold shoulder... ;)

I think that this is a little more than murdering her friends.

That turned out to be more of a seven year plan.

As much as Claire likes order and calm, maybe we're seeing the dawn of understanding... that this is an opportunity to reign supreme over a limitless realm of CHAOS POWER!!!!

Plus, she seems to naturally get along with AIs really well. She and Pintsize have a very wholesome friendship. If she can handle his obsessive weirdness with compassion and skill, Ms. Squirty Clueless McWaterbag isn't even a "2" on the weird-o-meter.

Wingy

Based on that black background, Claire now realizes just how far off the rails this "interview" has gone.  We shall see.
This space intentionally left almost blank.

SmilingCat

Sudden plot twist, the Director is Pintsize.

And he got the job the exact same way Claire did.

Perfectly Reasonable

'Food for humans' -- ok, so not Engineer Chow.

I suppose it's lucky they already have some human staff, or they might have a atmosphere in Cubetown that doesn't support human life.

WTF!? Is Moray nanites suspended in a sac of fluid?

That 4th panel is giving me Mommy Longlegs vibes... (shiver)

St.Clair

I had been assuming that she had some sort of gel-filled outer layer over a relatively conventional chassis, but according to the latest comic, she really is "goo all the way through".  Huh.

Perfectly Reasonable

I thought the same, but it appears she has an integument and a non-homogeneous filling. So it's important that her backup goo not be shaken.

Maybe we've just seen an interface; the "real" Moray is in that cabinet in the background, or under the sea, or on the Moon...

Christophelous

If Raven or Emily aren't already the secret boss of this place, then I hope that Claire brings them in to do research over there :)

I'm not sure I understand all the "run away"s.  In real life she wouldn't be offered this job, and wouldn't be able to do it. But this isn't real life. And in-universe, she's a part time barista - so it's not like she would be walking away from a career to try it. It seems the worst that could happen is that it goes down in flames, and she heads home.  In the meantime, perhaps some fun stories for us (and maybe her and Marten).

I wonder if the floaty bits make her equivalent of a nervous system? Though, it'd still be unclear as to how she controls her motorfunctions even if that were case.

I'm wondering if she's nanites in a bag.

The movie Viral and the webcomic Stand Still. Stay Sillent both pretty much nailed how the governments and people would respond.
