Sleater-Kinney and Fred Schnieder (of the B-52's) do an incredible cover of "Angry Inch" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

We Will Become Sillouettes - Covered by the Shins

Probably the most pallateable cover of a Postal Service song since I&W did Such Great Heights.

Oh, and Run DMC "Walk this Way"

What?

mm i don't particularly like the shins. palatable, yes. good? sorry, i gotta disagree with ya.

sorry if this has been said already, but i can't read all that stuff X: mm love song by 311, kinda popular, but i like the slower tempo. and then of course, mr grieves by tvotr. gives me goosebumps. also wasn't there that snow patrol cover of a beyonce song? crazy, i think it was? wasn't particularly special if i recall, but the incongruency was pretty funny. especially when he starts speaking jay-z's part.

John Coulton's earnest acoustic version of "Baby Got Back" kills me every time.

Pinhead Gunpowder's "Big Yellow Taxi" is excellent, as is Tiger Army's "the Loop" and the Living End's "Tainted Love."

Skyclad - Come on Eileen [Dexys Midnight Runners]
Skyclad - Dreamer Deciever [Judas Priest]
Skyclad - Emerald [Thin Lizzy]
Skyclad - Master Race [New Model Army]
Skyclad - Prime Evil [Venom]
Skyclad - Swords of a Thousand Men [Tenpole Tudor]

Martins new (er), somewhat Skyclad-like, now sadly defunct band, The Clan Destined, also covered 'T.C.L.E.T.H.B.R.I.D.G.E.' by The Sons of T.C. Lethbridge.

As for covers of Skyclad, as far as I know there is only one, which is SuidAkrA's cover of 'The One Piece Puzzle'.

Muse - Feeling Good (I love Matt's voice, period.)
They Might Be Giants - New York City (Had no idea this was a cover the first time I heard it, but it's one of my favorite TMBG songs.)
Barenaked Ladies - Lovers in a Dangerous Time (I think they really improved on the original.)
Cruxshadows - Here Comes the Rain Again (Interesting rendition.)

Same here. It's the only BNL song I can stand.

My vote for the Best Cover Ever would probably go to Gary Jules' "Mad World", for two reasons. One, it's better than the original by a mile, and I like the original. Two, it's how a cover should be - taking the song in a completely different direction and making it work.

I doubt it. Skyclad were originally a thrash band, but always a very European one. I think it's probably more likely to just be a reference to/satire of the concept that Testament are also referencing.

Sleater - Kinney also makes an excellent version of "More Than a Feeling"...there's also an awesome version of "Rockaway Beach" by Sahara Hotnights

Actually, the cardigans moved from their poppy sound towards a more (dare i say "indie"?), or at least, more mature music )Check their last two albums)

I could totally see that happening, the album is pretty good to begin with, its just that curse that the song you get famous for is the one on the album that is totally against you actual sound.
I think I even remember seing an interview on tv once with the lead singer being frustrated with the image that came with that singles sucess.

I don't really like covers as I prefer older songs, especially those from Bob Dylan.

The White Stripes - Isis (live)
Jack sounds like he's going to go insane near the end... they're good at covering Dylan songs

Frente! - Bizzare Love Triangle. Yes, I'm cheesy. No, I don't care
The Boy Least Lilkely To- Faith
The Mountain Goats - The Sign (but somehow the giant thing i downloaded dosen't have their NMH cover. Where do i get it?)

Dropkick Murphys - Amazing Grace (for all the wrong reasons)
Dropkick Murphys - Fields of Athenry
Bronson Arroyo - The Freshmen
Queen - The Great Pretender
Johnny Cash - Hurt (and I hate most country, although Cash isn't generally that bad)
Elton John - Pinball Wizard

and Rilo Kiley's NMH cover seconded, along with their version of The Biggest Lie.
The Bright Eyes version of that was a little too grating, and his version of Mushaboom by Feist caused me severe physical discomfort.

Deftones - No Ordinary Love (Sade)

Converge - Clean (Depeche Mode - a complete break from Converge's style, but an amazing cover)
Burn It Down - Paint It Black (Stones, of course)

The band CUSH did a cover of "I Would Die 4 U" (Prince) that turned it into an old spiritual...pretty interesting, in the same way that they Johnny Cash cover of Hurt was interesting to me, that just the way the song was performed completely changed the meaning of the song...
