I'm glad Arya got her revenge on Walder Frey. However, I'm a big (pun-intended) fan of Wyman Manderly in the books. So I'm a bit upset that Frey Pie got taken from him and given to Arya. I wish there could have been a way for Arya to kill Walder but still give Wyman his badass moment.

Oh, I don't think Sansa minds too much. Look at that sly hint of a smirk on Sansa's face when they're all declaring Jon king of da norf. It's exactly what she wants, it takes away Littlefinger's power to use her as a means to get to the throne.

I'm still of the opinion that one of the ultimate battles of the series is going to be indirectly between Littlefinger and Varys. They have similar methods, but Varys represents peace of the realm and Littlefinger represents its destruction. Varys has played his cards, but what will Petyr be able to do without the Starks. We don't see how the Vale lords react to this whole king in the North thing. Petyr may walk and take his army with him, causing problems for Jon and Dany alike.

Qyburn and the birds killing Pycelle was a nice book touch, even if that should've been Varys (although Varys is backing Dany instead of Aegon in the show, so who knows what he's doing with Dorne.

[Kings Landing et al]
- Was expecting Cersei to blow up the church, but I didn't expect Margarey to be caught up in it. Singling out Lancel specifically was an interesting choice but unsurprising one. 
- Tommen outlives his usefulness as king, saves himself the hassle of being murdered, goes full IT Crowd:


- I feel bad for Loras. Like, the poor guy spends the entire season in a dungeon, gets dragged in to the daylight, mutilated, then dies all for nothing.

- Olenna's alliance with the Martell's again unsurprising - Varys' appearance there was worth noting - I wonder if there's potential for alliances with Dany et al
Speaking of,

[Mereen]
- Dany's conversation with Tyrion was touching.
- Theon and Yara/Asha look a little over their heads lost in a sea of badass looking dragon ships. That final shot, panning out over the armada, god damn.

- Disappointed that Walder didn't get poisoned, but hey, at least he got a taste of Frey Pie!
  Also, I kind of wonder how many faces Arya's stolen from the Temple? Or did she go out and cut that one up herself? Because if so damn, girl. That's cold.

- Uncle Benjen "that wall keeps the dead out as long as it stands, SURE HOPE IT DOESN'T COME DOWN OR ANYTHING, EH?"
- Bran's revelation about Jon, confirms what we all knew, should have been a moving scene but for Young Ned/Lyanna's over-stressed accents. Kind of took away from the emotion of the scene.

[The Norf]
- Melisandre's/Davos' confrontation wasn't nearly as bloody as I was expecting. She finally hints at to her age (how old? Centuries maybe?), maybe she literally can't die?
- Sansa shutting down Littlefinger was so enjoyable - Honestly I don't think she's falling for his ideas of grandeur. She seems content to be Lady of Winterfell. Remarkable growth from her as a character.

- The inevitable declaring for the new King O The Norf! - The inevitable speeches, pledges of loyalty, endless chanting!

- Lyanna Mormont proving once again that she's a bad ass motherfucker and braver than any of the others. (well, mayyyybe except for Tormund. Maybe.)

I'm going to unspoiler this first thing because it's useful to keep in mind for anyone watching the series.

A Song of Ice and Fire is told through the eyes of characters who are sometimes hundreds or even thousands of miles apart from one another. Some chapters cover a day, some only an hour; others might span a fortnight, a month, half a year. With such a structure, the narrative cannot be strictly sequential; sometimes important things are happening simultaneously, a thousand leagues apart.

If you look at the sails in the last shot, there are Tyrell and Martell sails amongst them. The most likely scenario is that after securing the alliance the Martells and Tyrells gathered up their troops, and then the fleets met up somewhere in the Narrow Sea (there's only open water in the shot, so you can't say for sure where they are or how long they've been sailing) so that they could all land at King's Landing or wherever together.

Someone on reddit also mentioned the possibility that Varys sent some mostly-empty ships ahead to Meereen and went with them. Because remember that between the Greyjoys and what's left of the master's fleet, Dany would have had "barely enough" ships to transport her army, but having extra ships would allow her to bring more horses and supplies.

The Starks only won due to dumb luck and Sansa's alliance with littlefinger.  It was admirable that Jon tried to save Rickon, but he should have listen to Sansa and just bit the bullet.  Their entire army was in disarray.  I suppose the only good thing that came out of the beginning of the battle was the Bolton's cavalry was wiped out.  Seemed like only the free folk fought with unit cohesion during the fight, and I blame Jon's ride into No-man's land.  Was quite a spectacle though.

Danny seemed quite charmed by Yasha.  The mereen siege was pretty cool.  Khalissar showed up, dragons all free, burned ships, cause the rest to surrender.  Kiled 2/3 leaders and established dominance.  Who knows how many levies Danny can raise with slaver's bay now becoming freedom bay.

I mean, Jon, Tormund and Co would have been absolutely fucked had Sansa not arrived with the Deus Ex Machina Littlefinger's army, but still.

you're both assuming that Little-Finger just happened to show up at the exact perfect moment to save the day. i think he was there the whole time, with his people hiding out in the woods, just waiting for that moment. think about it, if he'd made his army known & available right from the start, John would have factored them into his strategy & made the best use of them, winning the battle at a minimal loss of life/strength, & possibly even managing to save Rickon.

but instead, John's army was severely weakened, while Little-Finger's is left mostly intact, and the last known Stark boy is dead. and perhaps more importantly, Little-Finger gets to look like the big damn hero to everyone, while john looks like an idiot who got his brother & his followers killed with his impatience.

its Little-Finger's style to set things up so that no matter how they play out, he ends up in the strongest position possible. hell, i'm willing to bet that he was marching for winterfell before he even ever received Sansa's letter, & probably would've come to the rescue exactly the same way if she hadn't sent it at all.


which makes it all just so much more satisfying to watch his face during the 'king of the north' scene at the end.

Poor Jon.  A new player has entered the game...although I don't think he knows that.  After all he knows nothing.  It would be refreshing to see Jon go to Sansa at the beginning of Season 7 and say "Sansa, I know nothing.  Help me rule.  I value your opinion and council.  The North belongs to the both of us."

It was a solid first episode. Briefly touching on all the important characters. Aria killed it this episode, and I am most interested in Jon and Sansa's story as they need to work together. Christ man.  They're both being bone-headed.

Interesting episode.  Not the greatest and my wife was not very happy with it but it was important.

Episode 1 of this season was to remind everyone of where the key players are and what their motivations for this season are going to be.  Episode 2 was to get things in motion to get to those goals for the end of the season.

Euron and Cersi need to team up, so we captured Yara and Elaria.

King of the North and Queen of Dragons need to team up (i.e. the rest of the "good guys" need to team up). Jon is invited to dragon stone.  Might I add Danny said he needs to come and bend the knee, but Tyrion conspicuously left it out of the note.

Aria wants to mark Cersi off her list but we need to get her to Winterfell. Have her meet Hot Pie and fill her in on the whats going on in the North.

I feel like it also tied up a lot of loose ends. Nymeria will now be forever a wild wolf.  Tyrion and Danny know about Jon (or will know).  Melissandre is in Dragostone.  Grey Worm and Messendi are now an official couple.  Jorah is receiving treatment. Jon asks for advice from Sansa and even leaves her in charge.

I will say I thought Euron's "little gift" to Cersi was going to be Tyrion and was not expecting it to be the sand snake queen.  Though it is justified seeing as she did kill Marcella.  Also seeing most of the annoying sand snakes die off was a bit of a plus, albeit brutal.  Props to the actor who portrays Euron.  He is intimidating with his crazy psychotic nature.  He reminds me of Heath Ledger's Joker.  I was not a fan of him last season but he is quickly growing on me.

I am looking forward to the Courtship of Danaerys Targaryen and Jon Targaryen.  It is rather funny. We were horrified and disgusted to see familial incest with the Lannisters, but the fanbase is down right routing for it with Jon and Danny.  We have come so far from season 1 episode 1.

In the book, Balon dies off screen, and we're told he fell. It's very strongly implied that Euron had a hand in it, but most likely by hiring a Faceless Man or something, and nobody brings it up and at the Kingsmoot Balon's death is publicly considered accidental (if suspicious).

In the show, we not only see Euron kill his brother, but when accused, he basically goes, "yeah, I killed him. He sucked. You're welcome." And it fucking WORKED, and he's lived up to that intro since.
