Tommy, that is a really good song. I remember you giving a link to their record label a while back, and that it had a few good bands on it too.

Can you post that link again or am I thinking of another band?

One band that I'm pretty sure not many people have heard before is a band called The Ditty Bops; and oh, how I love them so!
Then again, it may be my 13 year oldness tuning into their lighthearted melodies, pretty harmonies, and way cool instruments that you can hear in the background, but nonetheless, they're good. ^^
I suggest Sister Kate, Ooh La La, or Wishful Thinking for first time listening.
Those are the songs that got me hooked onto them.
Hurr hurr.

Maybe somebody have heard of this, but most people don't:

Turisas

A finnish folk-metal band. The name comes from a creature called "Iku-Turso", which is mentioned in Kalevala, the national epic of Finland.. Turisas is also a god of war. That information combined with the first album's name, "Battle Metal", you probably get the idea of the music. If you search for music, which is peaceful, has clean vocals and lyrics tell about beautiful things... don't even think about Turisas. If you search for music with harsh vocals, folk instruments alongside with electric guitars, lyrics that tell stories about ancient battles and great shows with sword-fighting and epic atmosphere, your choice will be Turisas. And fuck the guitar solos, all solos are played with violin, accordion & flutes. Second album, "The Varangian Ways" will be released in June 2007.

Songs I enjoy most:

Sahti-Waari
Battle Metal
The Land of Hope & Glory
Rex Regi Rebellis

You can hear few songs here: http://myspace.com/turisasofficial

The band I love that nobody seems to have heard of is motherfucking Ladyhawk. I saw them perform opening for The Constantines on Wednesday. Their album is only outstripped beyond their phenomenal capacity of their live performance. In fact I am so serious about you having to see them that I'm putting down their tour dates here.

I can gaurantee(sp?) nobody has heard of this band seeing as they're not on a record label and have only played live 3 or 4 times.

I think the Beangrowers are pretty spiffy. Although I think people do know about them, but only Germans and other assorted Europeans. So I guess it's a "no one ever heard of" band. (Unless you have! Then tell me.)

I really want to go see Ladyhawk play with Tapes N' Tapes, but it's at the silly old Plaza Club.  Hopefully I'll have secured myself a fake ID by then.  Hopefully.

They Shoot Horses Don't They are a band I quite like, that no one else has heard of.  I've been trying to see them live for a while now, but I always seem to miss their shows.  Apparently they're incredible live.  Here's a song.

I'm a big fan of Clann Zu, as some of you may know.  They were sort of a gothy folky prog band with very sloppy songwriting.  However, sometimes their songs hit home in a really big way for me.  I am also a huge fan of My Disco, one of the bands that Clann Zu guitarist Ben Andrews in currently in.

My current obsession is The Angelic Process. REally obscure. Their last album was released in 2006, and it's almost sold out. It's like MBV and Neurosis mixed together, witha  huge amount of distortion dropped on top. It's pretty hard to get into quickly, but repeated listens reveal a huge amount of melody and gorgeous-ness beneath all the fuzz. Amazing band, definitely one of the most sonically 'powerful' bands ever. It's been described as 'like watching a star being born' which is quite accurate. Check their myspace at: www.myspace.com/theangelicprocess, check out 'Crippled Healing' on it, and then hurry up and buy their album.

One other recommendation would be a band called Nadja. Imagine what would happen if sunn O))) and MBV made a record together. It's heavy and droney, sure, but also really beautiful, and fuzzed out in the shoegaze way. The compostional skill that lays behind a Nadja track is pretty incredible. Nadja's definitely a bit of a patience tester, but if you don't mind slow music, you should love this heaps. Melodic and fuzzed out but so freaking heavy.. Like Jesu slowed way down and made even prettier. I would recommend you find the 'Bodycage' Album, but there's tonnes of great releases.

That was really obscure! But at the same time it was so damn cool.

It reminded me about the first Diablo's (the pc-game, Blizzard, probably everyone knows it) soundtrack a little, somehow I got the same feeling. Even though the music is bit "messy" and it might break someone's ears, it had great atmosphere and was totally worth listening.

They are hardly unheard of, being that the metal press love them. Well, outside of Metal circles, yeah.

By the same token, Gojira are awesome. An enviromentally friendly metal band? Odd, but they make it sound oh so right. http://www.myspace.com/gojira

I think that one of the best bands in the world is almost certainly .22.

I don't suppose it's just coincidence that their website has some of those birds by that artist you like so much on it. Not to derail the thread, but what's his name again?

Aside from Johnny C on this forum, I have come across precious few folk on the internet/ever who have heard of one of my favourites, Wax Mannequin.

MYSPACE'D

And seriously, speaking of Johnny C.....why'd you have to post a reminder that I can't go see the Ladyhawk/Tapes'n'Tapes show in this town? It's when school is out, and therefore I am not here, and instead will back home in the middle of nowhere.....nnnnngh. Oh well.

Also, They Shoot Horses Don't They ARE incredible live.

Can't say this band is completely unheard of...but they only reason I know them is because my parents played them for me during my "formative years"  That being said, I have a deep psychological attachment behind this group...

They're called Raven and they're based in Portland, OR. They, surprisingly have a few albums on iTunes...as far as I can tell they do covers of archaic celtic music.

and I have just found that there is a hardrock band called Raven as well...Ah well so much for unique one word band names, huh?

Diablo Swing Orchestra, a Swedish Metal/Classical Dance fusion band.  That's probably not the right way to describe it, but it's the best I can come up with.  They have one CD out, and it is quite awesome.

One of my favourite bands at the moment is <a href="http://www.myspace.com/theenrighthouse " target="_fresh">The Enright House[/url]. Kind of a mix of post-rock and pop. I've been playing them on the radio quite a bit so if you've been listening you might have heard them already.

Indeed. But deservingly so.

An obscure favorite of mine would be Lykathea Aflame (released one cd under the name Apalling Spawn, one as Lykathea Aflame and the next one will be released under Lykath?). They play melodic, technical death/grind with middle eastern folk influences. And not just gimmicky folk instruments, but grindcore riffs based on folky chord progressions as well.

where i live im surrounded by people who have never remotley heard of any of my music, you guys would though so i have to pick wisely....hmm

-AlpineStars: no not the bikes-and-whaterver company. its a Electronica band that'll make you swear your off somewhere in the alps, all ther music is just so...wintery. The band is impossible to find due to the name after the aformentioned company and that the band website (which ive never seen) is gone.

Carbon Kid (feat. Brain Molko) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRqI0l9euvU

Snow Patrol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqr8KRTzgzk

also they got on Itunes as well (yay)

- X Japan: really not much about this band i can say without losing my sanity. its a Japanese Visual Kei (did i spell that right?) Metal band that harkens back to the 80's metal sound, but faster. Also they pretty much hold the record for longest power balled at 28 something min. (36 min. live). have fun finding some

i think thats it for right now, i wanted to throw in Nightwish but you prolly already know them

I don't know about the rest of them Suk, but Snow Patrol got some pretty major press coverage here in England around the release of their last record, and are pretty well known.

As for bands that I like that nobody else has heard of? I don't know, do people know Klashnekoff yet? He's pretty much the only hip-hop artist who has produced work that I think is intelligent, original, and enjoyable. Plus, he's English.

I'm into Pelt, Fursaxa, Jack Rose, Golden Ball, and various other members of what has been called the Psychedelphia scene (meaning really odd psych-folk musicians/groups from Philly).  More well-known representatives of Philly in the same vein include Espers and Bardo Pond.  All 6 of these bands/artists are well worth looking into.  Jack Rose in particular is astounding.

Everyone in the world should listen to Ramona Cordova.

I'm also a big fan of various stoner/heavy psychedelic groups that few have heard of, like Colour Haze, Hypnos 69, Pharaoh Overlord, Black Nasa, earthlings?, 35007, 500 Ft. of Pipe, Beaver, Poseidotica, and Yawning Man.  Again, all highly recommended.

I'll see what I can come up with...

This World Fair
I saw them open for The Spill Canvas last month and they were insanely good live, and very friendly- I was front and center during the show, so I was chatting with a couple of them between songs. One of their new songs is on the soundtrack for the movie "Disturbia," which is totally cool. I really regret not getting pictures and autographs now.. :)

Nick Motil
I've also seen this guy live. He played at my university a couple months back, and his show was really good. Also, I got to talk to him afterwards, and he's a pretty funny guy. His voice is pretty unique, which I think is cool

Amsterband
Another band I've seen live. Their show was fantastic because they played a little bit of everything. Their style is pretty distinctive on its own, but they added in covers of The Postal Service along with some country and some classic rock. Also a very friendly, hilarious group of guys. I really want to see them live again.

Ryan Taylor Bliss
I friggin' love this guy. His voice is just so insanely good, that's all there is to it. All of his original songs are fantastic, but the covers he has posted are amazing as well. I only wish that I had seen him live at some point, but no, I've just listened over the internet.

Shearwater
Probably the most mainstream of all the bands/artists I'll post, but I love them too much to not pimp their stuff. They're another band I would kill to see live. If anyone is familiar with Okkervil River, you've probably at least heard of them, but if not, now you have.

Blu Sanders
One last artist that I've seen live, and also at my university. And yet another voice that's very distinctive and I am practically in love with. His style is a little more country than I'm used to, but one of his songs, "By His Side," is one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. I really, really want to see him perform again.

Polar Bear Club
Think small brown bike, meets the casket lottery, meets hot water music.
except they don't actually sound like any of those bands.

don't let the "indie/hardcore" in the genres throw you off, just give it a listen.
i definitely recommend 'parked in the parking lot of your heart'. it's on the player

A really good band I found on Myspace is called the Paper Mullberries. Think Of Montreal and Oh No! Oh My!

another really good one that most probably haven't heard of YET is callled the Grand Archives. that is the band, or side project or something from one of the guys in Band of Horses. Sorry I don't know a ton of details about them

anyway check them both out. if you are interested, aim me at samoasneoartform, and I will post the paper mullberries for you on megaupload or just send them to you through that.

grand archives is available on their myspace; check out the song sleepdriving, it is amazing

The Life and Times - http://www.myspace.com/thelifeandtimes - Midwestern shoe-gazy indie rock featuring Allen Epley from Shiner.

Ring, Cicada - http://www.myspace.com/ringcicada - Largely instrumental, guitar driven rock.  The former bass player, Eric Abert, now plays in the Life and Times.

Traindodge - http://www.myspace.com/traindodge - Big Riff Rock ala Houston, Shiner, etc.

Grand Ulena - http://www.myspace.com/grandulena - Noisy, experimental stuff from Darin Gray of Dazzling Killmen fame.

Riddle of Steel- http://www.myspace.com/riddleofsteelband - Prog-rock with a small dose of cheese and irony, (but you knew that by the Conan refernce in the name).

The Glare of Day- http://www.myspace.com/theglareofday - Sort of a Sunny Day Real Estate, dreamy but driving feel.

Fragile Porcelain Mice- http://www.myspace.com/fragileporcelainmice - Very powerful, groove oriented, noisy stuff.  Almost like a hyper-rhythmic Jesus Lizard.

Monkey Swallows the Universe (http://www.myspace.com/mstu)

Listen to Sheffield Shanty. That song alone makes their album worth having.

Snow Patrol are definitely not unknown.  They've had top 10 singles in the US, and their last album hit number 27 on the Billboard charts.  Not even remotely unknown.

i took it ya didn't click on the link huh? the link had nothing to do with the BAND Snow Patrol, the link was to the music video of the SONG Snow Patrol by AlpineStars, the aforementioned band that was in that post. Very good song.

i hate that Snow Patrol automatically means the band T_T the Alpinestars song is so awesome
