Holy shit, MONO...
I wrote this on the Temp. Res. forum Friday night:
I loved it! That was an amazing experience. True, the orchestra was a bit drowned out at times but I could always hear them, even when far in the background. I was right in front so maybe they were even more audible further back. In any case, they played an absolutely killer set. I also got to shake the hand of the illustrious Jeremy DeVine. I met people who had flown in from California and New Orleans and even other countries and they all left totally satisfied with having come. I think that's a very good sign of how well things went. I picked up one of those posters to commemorate my going and then came home for the first time in a few weeks and got to see my new MONO vinyl. Definitely a great night.
And then there was last night:
oly shit! Last night was even better than Friday. Friday was in a beautiful venue and had better atmosphere but last night was just pure, overwhelming, immense energy and sound. I was literally inches from Taka the whole time and the level of intensity in the band's performance just blew me away. My ears are still ringing as I type this. Wow. It was the same set list but that's fine, they played only great tracks. Even Follow the Map, a track that was a little meh for me the first few times I heard it, took on a whole new dimension. And seeing Halcyon with an orchestra the way it's meant to be for the first time was so col. When they played Pure as Snow it was probably one of the most visceral live musical moments I've ever experienced. I'm so glad I went both nights. This was so worth it. Plus I met some great people from all over the country aaaand had two lengthy conversations (about EitS, new music, old music, tattoos ect.) and got a hug from none other than Munaf from Explosions. These last two nights are now one of the very top highlights of my history of shows and if both (and last night in particular) weren't the best shows I've ever been too they were really, really close. I'm still having a hard time realizing how frickin awesome it all was.
