I tweeted about those two bands last night, noting that I always get them mixed up and wonder when Isis started having lyrics before remembering that Pelican is the instrumental one.

Also, I much prefer Pelican to Isis.

These two lovely ladies are playing at the same show (separate performances) Sunday. Uni and her Ukelele is just a lot of fun, and Ricky Berger is amazingly versatile and a stunning performer. Can't help but smile afterward.

in a week im seeing fucking mono,

Saw them live about a month ago. It was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was just all about the awesomness flooding over you.

Man it was great.

Guys, tonight I'm seeing Basement Jaxx. I'm quite excited about this.

Double posting because: should I go and see Akron/family at the end of may in Glasgow as post exams celebrations.

(hint: yes is the correct answer. I just have to go and buy tickets)

This summer, I will definitely be seeing:
Clues
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone
Isis w/ Pelican
Grizzly Bear
Bonnie Prince Billy
MONO
Tortoise
Explosions in the Sky
Johann Johannsson

Hopefully others too. But I'm excited for all these shows! Should be a fun summer.

Guys, should I go see general admission Obituary with The Berzerker, Krisiun, Warbringer and Goatwhore OR see Porcupine Tree stuck with shitty seats and King's X ?? I'm leaning towards Obituary but my dumbass friends don't like old school death metal so I'd probably end up going by myself (which I really don't mind tbh)

Also, Sonic Youth are apparently coming round' here in June, might go see em'.

The show in Brooklyn will be 18+, not 21+. That venue is usually the latter but shows on Friday and Saturday are all 18 and up. It should be awesome. Elfin Sadddle are opening and they're really terrific as well (and very cool live) so it's gonna be a good time.

speak in first-person!

TFW, which song? they have two on their site, they released one on pitchfork and another on stereogum. also i doubt all the tracks on the album sound like "retarded power-metal" or however you described it.

Heh, I think I called it "weird almost-power-metal wankery" and was referring to the Pitchfork track. Haven't heard the other one but I'll check it out. Maybe it'll change my expectations for the album.

I am super sad that I could not go to the MONO shows in NYC. Does anyone know if these are truly the ONLY North American shows MONO is playing for Hymn to the Immortal Wind? If so, that is hell of lame. Please say no.

the MONO show was fucking EPIC.  It really was great.  Cool venue, the orchestra was really talented and they added soo much 'oomph' to the heavy parts and beauty to the soft parts.  If any of you have tickets to tomorrow nights show, you have something majorly great to look forward to.

My buddy that went with me had never heard post-rock before.  I told him this was a good way to get into it.

That seems like a strange combination. Women are absolutely spectacular live, though.

Also, everyone who has a chance to ever see Tortoise should go. They are incredible. They played for almost two hours when I saw them.

Holy shit, MONO...
I wrote this on the Temp. Res. forum Friday night:
I loved it! That was an amazing experience. True, the orchestra was a bit drowned out at times but I could always hear them, even when far in the background. I was right in front so maybe they were even more audible further back. In any case, they played an absolutely killer set. I also got to shake the hand of the illustrious Jeremy DeVine. I met people who had flown in from California and New Orleans and even other countries and they all left totally satisfied with having come. I think that's a very good sign of how well things went. I picked up one of those posters to commemorate my going and then came home for the first time in a few weeks and got to see my new MONO vinyl. Definitely a great night.
And then there was last night:
oly shit! Last night was even better than Friday. Friday was in a beautiful venue and had better atmosphere but last night was just pure, overwhelming, immense energy and sound. I was literally inches from Taka the whole time and the level of intensity in the band's performance just blew me away. My ears are still ringing as I type this. Wow. It was the same set list but that's fine, they played only great tracks. Even Follow the Map, a track that was a little meh for me the first few times I heard it, took on a whole new dimension. And seeing Halcyon with an orchestra the way it's meant to be for the first time was so col. When they played Pure as Snow it was probably one of the most visceral live musical moments I've ever experienced. I'm so glad I went both nights. This was so worth it. Plus I met some great people from all over the country aaaand had two lengthy conversations (about EitS, new music, old music, tattoos ect.) and got a hug from none other than Munaf from Explosions. These last two nights are now one of the very top highlights of my history of shows and if both (and last night in particular) weren't the best shows I've ever been too they were really, really close. I'm still having a hard time realizing how frickin awesome it all was.

You never got to meet my band though.

For the rest of your years, you will feel a twinge of guilt upon remembering this. Your life will, in all likelihood, turn out comfortable and satisfying, but there will always be a small piece missing. You will live going through the motions, unable to remember what's bothering you. You will realize only on your deathbed.
