Oh, yeah, I've been asked if I'm anorexic before. It's been a few years since then. Because my butt .... blossomed, to say the least (even though I'm literally on the fringe of barely in the appropriate weight range). I am also tired of the "need a cheeseburger" thing, especially when it's directed at vegetarians/vegans. I was one for 7.5 years, so I've definitely gotten that remark. It still rubs me the wrong way when it's directed at other people.

Also, this one guy I know seems to think I've slept with almost every male I've ever met. Not quite sure where he got this idea, because it's about as unfounded as they come.

Recently a coworker said to me, "You seem like you should be all... Woman-y." which I eventually decoded to "feminist" and responded, "Well, yeah." and she gave me a really awkward smile followed with, "Yeah. You seem like you'd be all into that sorta stuff. Girl power!"

I don't quite get what they were saying? Also it's been a while so I might be remembering wrong but it's one of those odd exchanges that keeps popping up into my brain.

Do you consider yourself feminine? Masculine? If you're not very feminine (not necessarily masculine, even), then you may seem like the sort of person they associate with feminism.

Oh, I'm not feminine at all, at least in terms of conventional "girly" interests. Plus I do regularly have discussions about feminism and various social justice type topics but never in work. I think it was more how she said it, which in fairness was probably just she couldn't get the right words. Right before we were chatting about her media studies idea, which is analysing documentaries and fairy tales. (Side note: Media studies is awesome.)
I think what bothered me is the way she skirted around the word "feminism". Reminds me of the mentality, "I'm all for equality too but not like in a feminist way."

If your life was a sitcom, it would turn out what she actually meant was not "feminist", but "lesbian".

This comment does not endorse the usage of sexual orientation for purposes of humor.

Highly doubt it. We're both in long term heterosexual relationships, were even talking about them before hand. That's why I continued trying to figure out what she meant after first thinking of the idea.

In my experience, guys don't need any reason to jump to that conclusion, they will do it entirely on their own.

While still at school, I was once asked if I didn't eat chocolate for any religious reason. The daft thing is, chocolate (and maybe apple pie) is probably the thing I eat most of, aside from actual meals. I just didn't eat much chocolate at school because I kept my lunch in my pockets so I could eat it on the playing field and not get caught (the rule was there to prevent littering) and it would go all melty.

What cruel religion requires it's followers to not eat chocolate? Also, why did people assume that there must me a religious reason rather than, say, a health issue or a matter of taste? :psyduck:

People assume I'm American. Probably comes from the accent I got off of being raised by a pack of feral backpackers.

And Sesame Street.

Also that I'm stoned alot. I attribute it to the drinking, as the closest I've ever been to a blunt is at best a light contact high.

Seriously? Religion? For that matter, why would you assume that just because you've never seen someone do a particular thing in your presence that they never do it? If I had never heard a particular person sing, I would not automatically assume they never sing ever.

Mormons can't have caffeine, though I don't think any of the Mormons I knew were strict enough to avoid chocolate.

See, I rarely discuss sex in any form or fashion with anyone I don't highly trust. I play D&D, so occasionally I'll have a character that flirts a lot and isn't afraid to get naked in front of people, but I can't think of one that was actually promiscuous in any real sense. The person that assumes I sleep with anything that moves also was the DM of a game where I was a freakin' 63-year-old monk. If you tried to judge me solely on the characters I play, you would be very confused. XD And yet, after playing a second flirtatious character, apparently I'm in everybody's pants. -.-

And speaking of autism, I think there were some people who were surprised that I don't have it, because there was this awkward/hilarious stunned silence when my friend said I was the only person in the room (out of 6 people) that didn't have it. XD

And speaking of international confusion, I got asked by an idiot in sixth grade if I was Chinese. Still trying to figure that one out. My eyes are huge.

And Welu, I assume the same. :-D

First: Despite being almost thirty people still assume I'm a teenager, I have to admit I do look like I'm in my teens. I suppose the gothic lolita fashions I wear don't help much either.

Second: That I'm boring as I tend to speak calmly and in monotone most of the time. I write crazier than I act, but I have been known to break into song and dance numbers in the middle of the mall. I'm also an amateur (read: weekend) racer. Racetracks only people, I'm not one of those jerks with a noisy civic who zooms by on public streets. I drive a 1988 RX-7.

Third: Because of my hispanic heritage and the area I live in people tend to assume I don't speak English. Which is funny when one considers I usually speak better English than most of the ones doing the assuming.
