Come to think of it, though, microgravity might not be the best for skirt-wearing, and I do so very much enjoy skirts. Perhaps I should reconsider.

The residential areas are spun up, at least. Even if you did something experimental, the only lab we saw seemed to be as well.

EDIT: Jeph is asking on Twitter what the verb is for what a dominatrix does. Apparently the idea in the previous strip will be continued.

I do not see any incompatibility between zero gravity and skirts.

Why was the lab in a rotating area anyway? I mean, if you're going to go through the trouble of taking your equipment into space, why would you then conduct experiments just as easily done on Earth?

That aside Martinmom is B. awesome.
I have to disagree with that. It's going to take several dozen more positive appearances, or at least some regret, for me to forgive her conduct after The Breakup.

Why does Claire think Veronica is really nice?

Wouldn't any scientist want to work with the best in the field? And go where those are, be it another country or low earth orbit?

Jeph is asking on Twitter what the verb is for what a dominatrix does.
Dominate? Suddenly I have a flash of a Dalek in a leather bikini shouting "Dom-in-ate! Dom-in-ATE! Dom-IN-ATE! DOM-IN-ATE!"

I don't actually enjoy rom-coms much...

Veronica's first meeting with Claire was a bit too overbearing for me to have considered it "very nice" had I been in Claire's place. Maybe when they were offscreen she saw the other side of her personality. We saw that side when VV was quite gentlemanly to Faye except for the threat.

Surely this will only work out long term if, by amazing coincidence, Jim happens to be a sub. Or if not, is happy to give her a free pass to go and domme other chaps now and again... hilarity ensues etc.

Not that I know anything at all about the dynamics of a BDSM/vanilla mixed relationships (assuming he is v.)  as pretty much the sum total of my knowledge of BDSM comes from Wikipedia and listening to Dan Savage.

BDSM relationships are a mixed bag. Many folks manage to get along very well with each other and have satisfiable/successful relationships, others kinda throw out the stigma that "Bondage is Bad" trope. And some people kinda take the power trip too far........like they think that just because you call yourself a Dominant, you have carte blanche rights to tell any submissive to submit to them immediately.

One benefit with BDSM/Fetishes is that given the various roles and fetishes out there, one can usually find a setup that suits them perfectly. Unless your fetish is like Gynophagia or something ridiculously obscure.........

The only reason for this gag is to embarrass Marten, which it seems to be succeeding in doing.  I see absolutely no likelihood of it happening.

It can't just be that. Too much work for too easy a target. It's like hopping on one leg, blindfolded, while drunk, attempting to shoot the broadside of a barn. Only you're using a pre-laid cannon with the trigger cord tied to your ankle.

Cliche situation: V2 becomes instant happy little domestic with Jim as the dominant personality in the relationship. Both are insanely happy, to the point where observers get cavities just thinking about it.
Marten spends the rest of his life twitchy, waiting for something bad to happen.

... I thought QC already *was* part romcom with Marten as the straight man.

Akima: That's an interesting image. Are you envisioning the standard-chassis Dalek or a DW version of a "skin job"?

Claire also spent a good bit of that visit making friends with scotch.  That may have tinted her view a bit!

Future proofing. It could take years to get this project off the ground and we want someone who can stick around for a few seasons at least.

The only reason for this gag is to embarrass Marten, which it seems to be succeeding in doing.  I see absolutely no likelihood of it happening.

The usual  purpose of a gag would be to keep Jim from alarming the neighbors with his reactions.

It does make sense as a shiptease as well as a joke at Marten's expense. They seemed pretty deadpan to me if it was a joke.

The Microsoft Dalek rolls around shouting "EM-BRACE! EX-TEND! EX-TERMI-I-NATE!".
