  • Be nice to everybody. So you're better than them.

When miners found some silver ore that refused to smelt properly, they decided it must have been cursed by 'kobolds'. That ore actually turned out to contain a new element -- that we now call 'cobalt'.

As for 'moxie' -- what can you expect of a celery-flavored soda? The taste-- then there's the aftertaste. Then the undertaste. (I won't mention Diet Moxie. It has its own special kind of infamy.)

But the webcomic 'Angel Moxie' is really neat. Have a look.

Momo is awesome, as usual. She will quickly clue Marigold in to the weirdness that is going on. And slam the door in Dale/May's faces. (Probably not. Since Jeph has worked hard to get us to this point...)

The real question is, can we make Jeph draw a size comparrison chart of all his females in underwear/swimsuits?

Maybe we need a combination of the random thoughts and weekly comic discussion threads.

I just had an existential QC-verse thought:

What if the big news Jeph mentioned is a major plot twist? Could it be that the QC-verse is in fact a false reality electronically created and implanted into the consciousness of May? The characters may be based off real humans, but maybe her crime was worth the effort of creating and running an artificial reality full of artificial intelligences (and artificial artificial intelligences) solely for the purpose of those AIs one day helping to rehabilitate a criminal.

Actually, what if May is in fact a real human being who has had her consciousness downloaded for the purpose of modifying and returning it to its body for the rehab?

Can AIs actually be CREATED? Is there a limited number? Did all programs simultaneously develop consciousness while some did not?

Wouldn't it be ethically wrong to modify a person's memories and consciousness solely for the purpose of teaching them a lesson that may or may not have actually been based on a real event?

QC may be a simulation in the real world that runs on a supercomputer for the purpose of observing artificial intelligences over time. Perhaps I am inside this simulation, as are all of you.

I should probably go to sleep.

Also, why do I feel like I'm being corrected for saying there are multiple valid spellings when all evidence presented since that statement confirms it?
I'm sorry Westrim. I have a condition; someone only has to make an ex cathedra statement like this:
The originator of the term may have been spelled Moxie, but everything since then that used it as a name has spelled it Moxy.
And I am immediately compelled to research its truth. Mea culpa.

Why are we arguing about the anatomy of hypothetical rat/dog/lizard creatures, when it is far better to discuss the awesomeness of Marigold's knockers?

I mean, even beings incapable of touch and who lack genitals are in awe of them.

The real question is, can we make Jeph draw a size comparrison chart of all his females in underwear/swimsuits?

After all, my biggest burning question is... who's bust is bigger? Marigold or Dora?
In descending order:

Gabby

Padma

She should watch/read some version of Area 88 (there are several, I've seen 1 and a half), that'll cure her of any desire to go that path. The one I remember better was mostly a good mix of reasonable "war sucks and affects those in it badly" messaging and fighter jet action- mostly, except for the ending.

You want the original OVA of Area 88. For those two don't know, it's an old school anime that follows the pilots of a French Foreign Legion style mercenary company that is composed only of fighter pilots. It is brutal, real and /very/ hard core while not being a gore fest. If you liked Mobile Suit Gundam: 8th MS Team this is the anime you wish you've known about.

That's the one I saw. Terrible ending, I wish I could unsee it. The main character throws away all his effort to get out of the war without even running it past his One True Love (gets on the phone and doesn't even talk after 3 years!), just because he didn't feel terrible about the fight with French street punks, and flies off to known suicide. He 180s from being selfless to the ultimate selfish act. All his wingmates have already suicided, because the formerly calculating base commander suddenly gets stupid when they back him and doesn't fly them off to form a resistance. It's just a case of "okay, we're done with our story, kill everyone or leave them unhappy, because we're trying to hammer home the point that war sucks."

She meant the language - I'm pretty sure she was referring to Latin, not English.

Even though it's not her first language, IIRC.  And despite that, her implementation is still better than most native speakers.

I'm bemused.  To me, ex cathedra is simply an idiomatic English usage of a phrase from Latin, just like et cetera or nota bene, and no more remarkable than them though admittedly less commonly brought out.

The last time I saw someone insist another watch it, it was a girlfriend to her boyfriend. Two weeks after watching it, they broke up.

I'm pretty sure those are unrelated events however, since both apparently enjoyed it and they're decent people.
