From where I found it:

okay so apparently these are supposed to be some sort of modern minimalist garden gnome sculptures but they look like fucking bad dragon dildos
the name doesn’t help either
I thought this was gonna be one of those posts where an innocent thing turns out to be a sex toy but it turned out to be a post where it being a dildo would make MORE sense

Also, they glow in the dark

Quote
I'm sure most of you are aware that in some species of spider the female will devour the male after copulation. But did you know that some males not only do not fight against this cannibalization, they actively promote and facilitate it? The male Redback Spider performs a somersault after mating and literally jumps into the females mouth. But why? What possible evolutionary benefit could there be from enabling your mating partner to eat you?

Researchers discovered that the environment of these spiders was so hostile that it was highly unlikely that a male would be able to find another mating partner. Therefore it would be better for it to focus on ensuring that the female did not mate again. Mate guarding is a poor tactic for these spiders as the females are so much larger.

The researchers also found that if a female devoured her first mating partner she was much less likely to accept a second male. If she did not eat her first partner she would usually accept to solicitations of the next male that came along.

These two factors (hostile environment and female choice when full) means that promoting their own devouring actually confers an evolutionary advantage on these male spiders.

Maybe, certainly some kind of ineffectual predator though. It's sweet how concerned she was though isn't it?

Here's a far cuter seal coming and saying hi to some hunters.

Seems seals are just super friendly in general. I wouldn't try it with Leopard Seals or grown adults... but the pups just wanna come say hi.

Here's some cool POV blue whale footage including some underwater work. It's amazing how... big they are.

Here's that same guy's own encounter with a seal pup X3

I entered that into Google Translate, my computer immediately shut down and armed Agents showed up at my door. I should probably go on the run now, goodbye forever.

The pointless threads alone will make us all wealthy beyond our wildest dreams

Two facts:
1. Nudity is, or should be normal.
2. Reading IS sexy. Whether you read nude or in a floor length coat.

and a reminder:

"We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them. Don’t let them explore you until they’ve explored the secret universes of books. Don’t let them connect with you until they’ve walked between the lines on the pages."

I know we have a what are you reading thread, but I'm curious, how many of you have libraries? How many of you own hard copy books, if you do how many do you own? Show us a photo of your books?

I own books. For me this whole e-reader thing is newfangled madness. Right up to the moment they invent an e-reader that can hold thousands of books and allows me to scan the bar codes of the books I already own for a free download of that book.

Several hundred books, I guess? 300? 400? 500? Not entirely sure. I guess me and the girl together might touch a thousand.

pffft. Everyone knows that bottle caps are the preferred currency of 9 out of 10 post-apocalyptic societies.

I really like my tablet/e-reader. It is very convenient to have dozens to hundreds of books at hand at any given moment. Especially as a gamer, it's nice to be able to carry my library with me when I don't know which game I may be playing any given day, instead of carrying around a second crate of books. But I'll never give up real paper books either. There is a primal joy and sensation of holding a real book in your hands that an e-reader just doesn't satisfy. And you don't have to recharge your books...

I probably have about....100? 200? Not sure. A full 6 foot tall, 3 foot wide bookcase full.

We have several hundred books, ranging from "ancient" textbooks (meaning ones I used in my undergraduate days) to recent best sellers.  I also have several hundred CDs of music (all ripped to my computer), and a couple of hundred DVDs.

Neither my wife or I use any sort of e-reader.

I think that this means I am some sort of Luddite hoarder.
