Faye is giving advice from Pintsize due consideration?

That has to be a call for an intervention if ever there was one.

Perhaps Pintsize just likes driving people to drink, then?

The horrible thing about that strip is that a part of me wonders if that was Pintsize trying to help!

Comic!

Nice attitude that of Marten, but kinda weird for a library nonetheless. Also, the fact that Emily would keep a leaderboard makes this scavenger hunt much more professional.

I assume that the chief librarian (the one that acts as the Janitor) is currently second?

Will Claire and Marten relationship survive differences on Library Philosophy? Or will we have to move on to our NEW pairing, Faye and Whisky. Which you could say is....

The highest point of action in the library of my college is a 3-player deathmatch of Sumoball MoM. That or the intermural League of Legends championship.

Yeah, I kind of thought that Marten would end up collecting most if not all of those things. I'm thinking that Claire either forgot about them or assumed that Emily's corkscrew-like mind would make finding them a statistical impossibility. She didn't reckon with Marten's weird luck, it seems.

The question is... What happens if Marten wins the Prize? For that matter, what is the Prize? Knowing Emily it may be literally impossible to guess!

Will Claire and Marten relationship survive differences on Library Philosophy?

I do think that this illustrates a major difference in mindset between Marten and Claire. Claire isn't a people person whilst Marten is a people person. He's all about individual personalities (what people are really like) and she's more about roles and labels (what they should be like).

I think that we're getting to the crux of Faye's heartbreak. She thought she was in love with Angus. She did and still does feel that she owed it to him to try. However, in the end, she's come to realise that she wasn't in love with him. Maybe she was in love with the idea of being in love with him but that's all. Because of that, in the end, she just couldn't prioritise her relationship with him or even his feelings over the place that has become her home and her friends that are closer to her than her family.

This, I think, is the really shitty part of it, for her. She's hurt Angus (a perfectly nice guy who she really quite liked) because, in the end, she was fooling herself about her own feelings. That is why she's drinking: right now, she feels so guilty that she can't live with herself whilst sober.

This has always been Jeph's triumph as a writer. He can go from a completely sophomoric joke about condoms hidden in a library to a profound bit of pathos about feelings, self-deceit and the minefield that are human relationships. What's more, he's done this so smoothly that it isn't even slightly jarring!

#2872 - Oh grud, this conversation with Pintsize make sense - The World is coming to an end!!!     :o

I think that she feels safe to bare her soul to Pintsize because she doubts that he has the emotional depth to understand (notice her parting crack about Pintsize regretting he hasn't got a butt). However, I strongly suspect that she might be underestimating him.

Called it.

On Pintsize's depth, it IS surprising but it wasn't alien to us. We've had a look into the mind of Pintsize when discussing his "job" with Momo. It's not that he can't be of help or that he isn't wise, it's just that he doesn't give advice when it isn't needed or asked for. I'm pretty sure there was a saying for that in Spain but I can't remember it.

Given his love for hentai and tentacle porn, he might have porn of the plot-filled persuasion.

The 3rd and 4th panels are making me question that. Knowing what you really want but not being able/willing to do what you need to. If breaking up was what she really wanted, well she DID do that. I think she wanted to go with him. And I think maybe it's more than just about being with him, but moving forward with life. She keeps working at the coffee shop and living with Marten and one day she's 40, Marten goes off and gets married(To C...*gack* Not now shipper) and Dora sells out to Starbucks.

It could just be a poorly worded set of lines about coming to terms with breaking up, but I think she wants to put herself on the bus.

Which makes me wonder what happens in that situation. Since you know, major character and all.

However, in the end, she's come to realise that she wasn't in love with him.
I don't agree with this at all.

@Rghfrgl,

The points is that Faye is suffering from a conflict about what she fundamentally wants and what, on a totally different level, she believes she ought to do and feel. Her problem is that she's told herself that a good person would go with Angus. She doesn't want to go with him. That makes her a bad person in her eyes. So the guilt (not all of it justified) is swirling around her and undermining her emotional stability.

I'm curious which part?

Edit: sorry, this came across upon a second read as confrontational... I'd like you to amplify your disagreement.

On a completely side note: that lower panel in the lower left of 2872 is the most evocative and emotion-filled thing I have ever seen in a webcomic. Bravo, Jeph.

I think that she feels safe to bare her soul to Pintsize because she doubts that he has the emotional depth to understand (notice her parting crack about Pintsize regretting he hasn't got a butt). However, I strongly suspect that she might be underestimating him.

I think Jeph said it best: "Pintsize has hidden depths. Unfortunately they are full of porn."

Given his love for hentai and tentacle porn, he might have porn of the plot-filled persuasion.

Well at least he's not acting like he did when Faye's last (sorta) relationship went south.

...yet.

Here, here.  It brought me back to say just that.

Eye think it's the eyebrow.  So much said (and unsaid) in that slight curl.

That, and seeing Pintsize fulfilling his primary purpose of companionship, even if it's not with Marten.  He really is better for her than drinking alone.
