What you said did not get across the idea that you think those bands are very different and therefore wouldn't be liked by the OP.  Maybe instead of saying, "None of the bands mentioned are any good at all," you could have said, I dunno, "None of the bands mentioned would fit your musical taste going by what you said in the original post."

Because the first = elitist; the second actually gets your point across.

I would agree that the bands the guy listed probably wouldn't be in the OP's tastes, and probably not what I like, either, but you're method of speech tends to put people on edge rather than contribute to the course of discourse.

With that said, I think you're a pretty cool guy.  Just tone it down a notch or twenty if you want to come across as someone helpful rather than a guy on his high horse.
