La Creme:
Melvins > Tomahawk > Helmet > Kyuss > Clutch

Storm Rider:
Naw, Melvins > Kyuss > Tomahawk > Helmet > Clutch.

La Creme:
Both of these are acceptable based on personal preference. The idea of the whole thing is that Clutch are a boring, distilled version of a lot of bands that kick a lot more ass than them. Jesus Lizard and Isis can form the fringes on the list.

{let Clutch = 'x'

Melvins > Tomahawk > Helmet > Kyuss > Clutch
or
Melvins > Kyuss > Tomahawk > Helmet > Clutch

where max 'y' value = Isis
where min 'y' value = The Jesus Lizard}

Most trip-hop was instrumental, and I wouldn't include Bjork (Tricky connection notwithstanding, she had stronger connections to the UK dance scene) or Massive Attack (too nice, too club oriented... in my world they never released anything after 'Protection', btw ;)).  But I'm probably being a bit Tommydski (re: emo) about this.

I think some trip-hop essential releases are:

Skylab - #1 (one of the most underrated albums ever ever I reckon, that 90s ambient house thing taken away from the club and instead pilfering from hip-hop culture... all kinds of psychedelia and the defining trip-hop track, 'Seashell')

various artists - Headz (awesome statement of intent for the (at that time) great Mo'Wax label, prob only "names" are Nightmares On Wax, UNKLE (back when it involved the DFA guy), DJ Shadow)

UNKLE vs Major Force Orchestra - The Time Has Come (drugged out tribute to Sun-Ra... "the time has come to go out of your mind"... monster track that turns into a weird slo-mo 303 workout... and the 2x12" that got made into a CD has great remixes by Portishead and Plaid too... the version with Major Force Orchestra is one of the best pieces of music in the world, but you've already got than on the Headz compilation above)

Palmskin Productions - The Beast Remixes (essential single for just one track - the Autechre remix - but the Global Communications mixes are quite good)

bla bla.. that'll do...

The thing about Clutch is that in their early/mid years, yes, they were a decent/'boring' version of a few other bands.  But since they have gotten progressively more bluesy, and really, I find it very difficult to even classify their last album as metal.  They change a lot from album to album; for instance, Blast Tyrant was more in their older style (but was still great), while Jam Room, Slow Hole to China, and their most recent, Robot Hive/Exodus, are more like blues-infused hard rock than stoner metal.
