So.....whatchu guys think of TMBG?
The Eyeball Kid:
The hate is that people got into them when they were kids, which put them on the path of indie and alternative music... but now they're too 'cool' to like nerdy music and they must prove this coolness on a messegeboard for an internet comic strip.
Some of their songs are surprisingly dark. Birdhouse in Your Soul... Istanbul Not Constaninople... weird memories. Hearing Another First Kiss for the first time after getting one kiss from a girl i liked at CTY (Smart Kids Camp)... memories man
MajinTrunkz:
I guess I am in the minority here, since I personally love They Might Be Giants. I've known about them for some years now (I first heard "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" on Tiny Toons), but just really started listening to them in the past year or so. They've just got some fun, weird music.
ielerol:
all I own by them is John Henry, which I mostly enjoy. Other than that, I've heard particular songs that friends recommend. My impression is that they are pretty uneven -- some songs are clever and a lot of fun, and others are basically pointless. I can live with a band like that.
alonelyargonaut:
TMBG is glorious, i'm amazed at how many people don't like them, well, i guess not, they arent really considered that cool anymore but they are still rocking it the same as they always have 20 years later, and that makes me happy that they still have a market
Brian Majestic:
--- Quote from: Ally on 18 Oct 2006, 16:32 ---When I was in 7th grade, my horrible history teacher (Mr. Yellen you will never be forgiven for your crimes against HUMANITY) played a TMBG song (Istanbul, since it was "relevent") to be "cool" and "hip."
So I have no idea if they are good or not because they bring back lots of bad memories. Negative connotations. Oh man I could write a book about what a crap teacher Mr. Yellen was. He was probably the first teacher to actually make me cry. I mean, everyone in the class still remembers that song (and all the words) because he basically kept it on repeat the whole year.

I wonder if my college freshmen hate me now because I made them listen to Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone" as part of today's lesson. Mind you, we also rocked out to Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Loving You"...
