Fallout

Slick:
Man I am a grumpy old bastard. Back in my day, video games had content, and didn't rely on their 'flash-grafx' to woo gamers.

Sorry. I love the dark humour in fallout, the silly tangential 'special' encounters, the NPC personalities, the concept, and the everything. Everything except the lazy developers who released a buggy, unfinished product. They mad a great game, they just weren't great business people or anything.

As for Bethesda, I've heard lots of good things about the elder scrolls, but they are being very tight lipped over fallout (the fanbase of fallout is still strong and they would not hesitate to lynch Bethesda's CEO) and we don't hear a lot about it.
Bottom line, I'll probably play it if it comes out, but still I doubt it'll live up to the others.

Well, you do have to admit that Fallout 2 could have been worse. They only had 1 year from start to release with the game, and Black Isle was very open about being game designers and not so much programmers. Hell, even WITH the bugs it had, it was still better than any other RPG i had ever played at the time. Patched it IS the best best RPG i have ever played... just barely ahead of Fallout 1 and Arcanum.

R.I.P. Black Isle and Troika :'(

Splunkle:
We know the following about fallout 3:
- It is going to be 3rd person.  I can't recall whether this means the traditional isometric 3rd person, or some other camera, though.
- It is going to be using the same engine as Oblivion, but updated to stay with the times, presumably.
- It isn't done yet.

nihilist:
Fallout Tactics was pretty good.  I would love Fallout 3; nothing has every come close to touching on the whole post-apocalyptic theme.  In fact, the only other one I know that comes close is Auto Assault, and it is a car-based MMO, not a(n?) RPG.

Semi-Bump

Fallout 1 was and still is one of the best games I have ever played. EVER. It's similar to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in that: I can basically sleepwalk through the game I've played it so much, it's just long enough but not too long, and I still dig it out every few months.

Fallout 2 I have never gotten more than a few hours into. It's not even the bugs that people complain about, I just don't like it that much. Feels like too much of the same, but in a bad way. The beginning of the game has always seemed slow paced and stupidly hard to me, too.
