Anyone notice that whenever there's a metal thread, several new accounts pop in to share their thoughts?  Most of which we never see again?  Not trying to be a dick, but I think it's bad etiquette for people to yell their opinions for a little bit and then go back to lurking for two years.

I'm sure they are all ridiculous though. All metal vids are ridiculous. And if you ever laugh at them then you DON'T GET IT.

I thought I got it because I DO laugh at them. It's about 52% of the reason I like Amon Amarth.

What do y'all think of Colors by Between the Buried and Me. I'm afraid to say I really like it. Thoughts?

BTBAM have always been pretty weird (Laser Speed on Alaska?) but I think they overdid it on Colors. I was looking forward
to this amazing new groundbreaking proggy, extremely technical and yet melodic metal record.

And I got what, exactly?

Sabbath (pre Dio) anyone?

Also, the first thing that ever got me into MDM was Arch Enemy, and for that I have to that Jeph's good ole recommended listening page.

Between the Buried and Me is an absolutely godly awesome band. Their new album is my favorite of this year, actually.

Some other great metal bands that have surely been mentioned by now include: Opeth, Agalloch, Meshuggah, Isis, Maudlin of the Well, and Kayo Dot (well, they are part metal).

When it comes to metal I always choose classic main stream bands like Dokken or Dio.

Does Swedish stoner rock like Blind Dog and Lowrider belong on this thread?  I'm pretty sure Grand Magus does, but there's a lot of middle-ground bands from Sweden who might not qualify as true "metal" (Astroqueen, Brain Police, Asteroid, Astrosoniq, Dozer, Greenleaf, Mammoth Volume, Sgt. Sunshine, etc.) which owe a lot more to Kyuss and Fu Manchu than they do to Opeth and Mayhem.  Is stoner-rock Sabbath worship the sort of thing that could be feasibly called "metal" or is that a faux pas?

Some friends of mine that are sort of a mix between The DEP, Meshuggah, and Deicide called "The Goddamn Rodeo."  If you're into fantasy stuff and guitar solos, this ain't your band.  Not my thing so much, but very good at what they do; and, best name ever.

I would like to mention a UK band that may or may not be metal, but are heavy and very good....

Iron Monkey

also has anyone said Unsane yet? Or Botch? Not straight up metal but still!

Oh and Narcosis blow/blew EVERYONE off the stage...even Pig Destroyer.

I used to work in an Indie Hipster bar and met members of Carcass there at a lock in, we got on as we were the only ones drinking wine, lovely vegan boys with good manners!

I also served Glen Benton a bottle of Newkie Brown, he had a cap on and looked liked Silent Bob so I couldn't see his forehead :(

And one more while I'm here: My friends family made all the backdrops/props for Iron Maiden & when I was about 5 I got to go inside an Eddie head and make all the features move, best childhood memory ever!

The saddest thing about Dragonforce is now I have to be very careful about how I praise the perfectly fine Sega Saturn game to avoid being misunderstood. That, and they make me ashamed to enjoy trampolines.

I like metal..All types, apart from metalcore bands and such (I'm not elitist, its just not really my thing).

The saddest thing about dragonforce is how much they sound like gamma ray, to me.

Iron Monkey absolutely destroy. Ridiculously intense, Our Problem has to be the greatest sludge record ever made. Fuck Eyehategod. I would say something about Unsane but you know damn well I'll never shut up if I do, so I'll limit myself to pointing out that they're one of the best bands of all time.

I'm kind of curious about thrash metal in general. I've heard of Slayer obviously, and Kreator I like. I looked up Sodom after seeing them in this thread. Could anyone give me some good starting albums from these artists? I've heard a few songs from Kreator's Enemy of God, but I'm not sure if I should start there and work backwards, or get an earlier album and go from there.

Also-is Reign in Blood actually worth listening to?

Reign in Blood is one of the best thrash albums. Personally, from Slayer I like Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven more, but those three albums are all awesome - and if you like the German thrash metal scene over the American then Reign in Blood is probably going to be your favourite.

From Kreator, I'd probably pick up Terrible Certainty or Extreme Aggression, though from what I've heard of Enemy of God that's a perfectly fine place to start.

Pick up Agent Orange by Sodom.

Not at all, I really don't like Slayer, I get sick of hearing people say they're the best metal band of all time. Sure they did some stuff for the genre in the early years, but compare them to today's standards and they're fucking mediocre.

Oh and yeah, it was Graveworm that did the heinous cover of Maiden.
