I have grown my hair longer than it has been for years, sometimes I wish it would grow more so I could be the Prettiest Princess, sometimes I wish I could cut it all off because it gets in my mouth and stuff. My face shape has changed over the past couple of years (my grandmother says it has 'filled out' which I guess means I actually put on some weight,  that's okay) so I am not sure if I would look as good with my super-short hair as I did before.
Whatever, I have been growing this hair for a while, my goal is it get it a few inches past my shoulders, I guess I will decide what to do from there.

I'm trying to grow mine long. I keep changing my mind every time it gets suitably long. I seem to either want it really long or really sort (shaven).

Girls look good with shaved hair in my opinion. When my head is shaved, I sometimes wish I was a girl so I'd be more attractive.

i'd amend that to say that people with nice heads/skulls/whatever look good with shaved heads. i am a lady who would absolutely 100% look TERRIBLE with a shaved head because i have several cysts + scars from having cysts removed. good thing i am not planning on shaving my head any time soon ever!

also i vote for short hair dovey!

Feel your pain. I have to get one every week. Worse part is they do a horrible job and still costs more than any 3min haircut should.

I say long hair dovey! We can be long hair buddies (I'm growing mine back out)!

So my hair is just above shoulder length. Once it gets a bit longer I'm going to put some silver streaks in (possibly with extensions?). Basically, I shall look a bit like this:

I can now but you seriously get tired of having a buzzed head. The rule is you can have 3 inches of length on top as long as long as it doesnt cover your eyes. The sides have to faded and not touching your ears. The back must be clean at all times. I push the limits as far as i can usually. One thing i learned is no matter how good your buddy thinks he is at cutting hair he isnt.

Dude I like scruffy long-hair Dovey, or scruffy short Dovey, in that order. Clean-shaven anything Dovey is a distant third.

Also, Pete, I cannot imagine you with long hair. Wtf.

I'm thinking of it this way: on you, long hair would mean regressing into teen style. Keeping the short cut would be embracing the fashionable adult. You can afford to do either at this point in your life but I think you're doing an excellent job with the suave grown-up look so short hair all the way.

I shudder at doing this, really...
Looking back at old pics is painful in a way, as I've lost almost a hundred pounds in the years.
But alas, I'm having a hair dilemma ... I currently have short bleached hair, and I'm normally a brunette.

I'm debating growing it back out long again, or going medium ... and WHAT COLOR. Like ... should I re-dye? BTW, I apologize in advance if the pictures are huge. I'm just pasting the img codes from photobucket.

Photo 1/2 ... newer pic with my original brunette then bleached short hair ... the uh bleached one was TAKEN upside down and you cant see it all but yeah ... and those are my natural curls, to boot.

Photo 3 ... medium length hair, burgundy even though you can't really see it.

Photo 4 ... longer hair ... can't really see the actual hair ... it's so dark brunette it's nearly black so i guess its 5 pics to see.

I definitely think the first picture, shorter and kept straighter, is the way to go. And the side-parted fringe! I am a side fringe fan.
Even though I've been pretty much every shade of everything over the years, I think as a rule your natural colour + 1 or 2 shades lighter or darker is generally your best bet. (Of course there are exceptions!) I'm currently about 2 shades darker than natural and I think it brings out my skin and eyes the best.

Hair thread! Tomorrow I am getting my hair cut! :D This is the BEST THING because for about three weeks now I have legitimately not been able to see out without shaking my head first, because my fringe reaches down to the end of my nose. In other circumstances I'd have taken a pair of nail scissors to it ages ago but my manicure set is buried somewhere in a box.

This is not a request for advice, I guess, sorry. I have found a style I like and I'm sticking to it. But maybe I am giving advice? Cut yo' fringes dawgs. It is good for your eyesight and stuff.

Yeah I have been cutting my own fringe the past few months. It is easy! Go slow and cut a little lower than you actually want and you generally won't fuck it up.

Hair status: professionally cut :) I will be trimming the fringe myself in a few weeks though, I am not letting it get to that state again.

it's not actually that terrifying, depending on the type of person you are! like i had a Standard Bob for years and years and it was long and shaggy and kinda curly but not really curly so i'd just slice it up myself! my layers were probably not perfect but because i have wavy hair it totally did not matter because it is very forgiving. i also color my own hair, but i only color my hair because i am twentygoddamnfour years old and i have gray hair. it gets colored to my natural color.

Ok, ladies (and maybe dudes), other than doing variations of this all the time (sorry about the silly face):

I need HALP. I'm growing out my hair and I've reached that awkward phase. The super duper lady who cuts my hair is giving me a lot of help in cutting it in a way that will make my hair transition nicely into a bob, but I honestly don't know what to do with my hair as it's growing out other than wearing hats or just letting it be the fluffy hot mess it is. (Imagine if Justin Bieber's hair was fluffier and that's kind of what mine looks like now. Which sucks, hence the hat.) I can post another pic later when I don't have mad hat hair if that'll help with ideas.

So. Ladies who have had short hair and grown it out (and the few dudes around here who have done the same), do you have any suggestions? Or do I just need to deal with it?

Visit the hairdresser as often as you can and let them know your intentions. There are plenty of cute cuts that you can have with not-so-short hair that don't have to be mullety. One thing that helped me was I had longer sort of 'sideburn' things (see: Ramona Flowers) at the edge of my fringe that helped the rest of it look purposely cool. After a bit I had it cut into a super short flapper/Katie Holmes bob and have just let it grow since. My hair is super-thick but very greasy so it didn't get fluffy, maybe you can try soem serum to keep it smooth.

This is sort of how mine worked:

Nah, I had short hair forever basically, I really want to get it long. Just once. It's a little bit past my shoulders right now and I really like it. I will probably cut it all off next year though, knowing me. I like haircuts and I haven't had one for about a year!

My hair is starting to get fairly shaggy, so I cut it off more short on the one side, I'll be cutting it shorter soon as the steps that were in my hair have started to grow out and I want them back. Seemingly the past two haircuts I've gotten I've either done it myself on acid or had a drunk friend do it, and I've never been happier with two haircuts.

This direction, keep going y/n?

Andy your hair looks so neat, def keep those sideburn bits, I love those on ladies.

Hair thread, my hair is shitting me so bad. I hate how it feels long and it takes so much effort to wash and dry it every day (but I have super grease if I don't). BUT I have been trying forever to grow my hair long and I finally feel like I am getting somewhere.
I like the tousled look so that is what I am trying (blowdrying the fringe and letting the rest air dry with a bit of saltwater spray) but I guess I am not very good at it. I have little patience with my hair and usually only ten minutes to get ready in the morning.

Hair thread, what do I do?

Lunchy, grab a curling mousse and put it in your hair when it is wet. Blow dry it with just your fingers and it will do a cute wavy thing.

Guys, I am thinking of cutting my hair super short again, and maybe  getting a swoopy side fringey thing. I have been told I will have to blow dry my fringe to make it look nice, and I guess I am willing to do this now, so do you guys think it would be a good idea? I told ben I wanted a fringe and i think he thought I meant a big straight blunt one, which would look terrible, but I explained what I had in mine. He still doesn't really like the idea, but eh.

Hai hairthraid ai got ai haircut

I am happy with it since it requires 0 maintenance, but it looks wayyyy better when it's wet, like right after I get out of the shower.

So question: Is there a product that will make it look like I just got out of the shower all the time? But like, not crunchy or greasy?

Apparently some finishing products might do that? I have never tried. Look on this site: http://haircutsformen.org/buzz/pages/tipsproducts2.htm

edit: Also, yesterday I got a remark that my hair looked kind of James Dean-ish. That made me consider just straight out asking for the stylist to make me look like James Dean next time I get a hair cut. Good idea? Bad idea? Best idea?
