Terry Pratchett has Alzheimer's

If you said someone you knew had Alzheimer's (such as your friend's grandmother), we'd say the same things with maybe a few more jokes in poor taste than we did here.  The reason I'm upset about this is because his books and his personality have lent a positive vibe to everyone who's ever read them.  I'm incredibly cynical but books like his keep me from being a bitter person.

My grandmother is showing early signs of Alzheimer's, too.  She keeps thinking that I'm one of my much older cousins, still thinks I'm in high school, and hasn't filed her taxes in 6 years (my grandfather always took care of them and she never learned how or when anyways).  She was always distant, though, so I'm less inclined to be upset that she's forgetting things than Pratchett, which I guess is sort of depressing.

StaedlerMars:
You really answered your own question. It's a shit condition, and it happened to someone who's work has affected some of us. It's just someone we can all relate to. Just because it happened to him doesn't make it special, it just makes it have happened to someone we can know, or are familiar with him.

It was never claimed that it was more important, just that we all think it's sad, because this man has affected our lives.

Johnny C:
Yeah dude my grandma has Alzheimer's and it sucks.

Terry Pratchett having Alzheimer's sucks.

If Dick Cheney woke up tomorrow with Alzheimer's, that would suck.

Alzheimer's sucks.

Dimmukane:
He'd be in for a treat when he's told for the 13th time that he shot his friend in the face.

I can't think of very many people who I would trust more to handle it well, though.

Very very true.

P.S. I disagree with Jimmy because honestly, Pratchett has, in all likelihood, brought a lot more joy to a lot more people than your friend's grandma. No offense, but not all people are equal in value.

P.P.S. Dick Cheney with Alzheimer's would be hilarious.
