They're pretty awesome on record - I guess they technically fall under the Chillwave moniker but their music is far more ambient-leaning than most artists in that vein. Chillwave artists are almost always terrible live. Look up reviews online if you can find them, get a general idea.

Grouper is only one person.

Sorry I know this is days late but I always have an uncontrollable urge to correct people who refer to solo artists in the plural. Would also say that she A) is not Chillwave in the least (not sure what releases you're listening to) and B) puts on a really haunting live show

I misspoke above: Titus Andronicus is playing my school for Halloween with some other bands (maybe all from my school, not sure) opening. Show's being held in a auto garage a.k.a. almost certainly the smallest space by far these guys have played in a long time. Should be a rather rowdy good time.

Nov 10: The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble + Joe Lally.
I have no idea what Joe Lally's solo stuff sounds like, but I really love TKDE, and Fugazi were gods of course, so that's bound to be a great night.

Nov 30: Holy Fuck once again. Always fantastic!

Sufjan Stevens tonight. So very, very, very excited.

Do let us know the setlist. From what I've heard it's almost completely Age of Adz, which isn't a bad thing, but man, if I don't hear Casimir Pulaski Day I might actually cry.

I saw a setlist posted online for the show last night, I believe. It was literally all from Age of Adz and All Delighted People minus Chicago and the encore, which were Concerning the UFO Sighting and John Wayne Gacy, Jr.  I kind of hope the list isn't static throughout the tour, but I'll bet it is.

Just got back from tonight's concert in Minneapolis. He's definitely not keeping everything the same (outside the core pieces to promote Age of Adz), which is awesome.  Casimir Pulaski Day made it into the encore and blew me away. We didn't get John Wayne Gacy, Jr. or Decatur, though. But he basically pulled The Dress Looks Nice on You together kind of on a whim, which was a treat.  Looks like the Canadians got screwed out of an amazing encore, thought still good in my opinion.

So Sunday was Day 2 of Treasure Island Music Fest. HOLY SHIT.

Superchunk: Last three songs were "Hyper Enough", "Slack Motherfucker" and "Precision Auto". Basically for like 15 minutes I was non-stop headbanging and moshing.

She and Him: I was pretty much taken aback for how good they were, although Zooey probably was probably sick as she couldn't hit certain notes and such. Several guys had written "Marry Me" on their hands and it had been picked up on the Jumbotron; if I had a sharpie on me I probably would've written "Divorce Ben", just to be a cock.

Broken Social Scene: Crazily epic, although Brendan's guitars kept fucking up, and whoever did sound kept the banjo muted for "Anthems for a 17-Year-Old Girl." Regardless, it was ridiculously epic.

The National: Matt basically stormed through the crowd on their last song. My roommate copped a feel. Like She and Him, I had never really listened to their stuff much but was pretty impressed with them.

Belle and Sebastian: "I'm a Cuckoo" was the SECOND FUCKING SONG. They also played such hits like "Like Dylan in the Movies", "Piazza New York Catcher" (being that it was in San Francisco, Stuart did cheer the Giants, saying "The Phillies don't stand a chance!"), "Step Into My Office, Baby", "Sukie in the Graveyard", "Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying", and guess what the encore was?

JUDY AND THE MOTHERFUCKING DREAM OF SHITTING HORSES.

Man, being that I saw Sloan in February, Bottomless Pit and Police Teeth in June, and Belle and Sebastian two nights ago, that means I've seen four out of my five favorite bands of all time this year. Hey Neil Young, playing any shows soon?

Christophe, Treasure Island sounds like the best.

Having said that, Primavera Sound will announce their first bands for next summer tonight. I've already bought tickets? The festival is in May? What?

And, I'm going to go see Yeasayer again on Sunday! I think there's like ten of my friends going, that is the most people I will know at a concert I go to.

I still haven't listened to the Age of Adz because i kind of stopped caring about Sufjan Stevens a year ago, but my friend Emanuel keeps telling me i have to so might finally get around to that soon. Then again I also still haven't listened to Lisbon and I definitely do care about The Walkmen. Ehhhh, in time.

More to the point, I'm gonna see Deerhunter tonight! With Real Estate and Casino Vs Japan! so good, so good

Tonight, looking for something to do, I checked the gig listings at a few of my favourite local venues. Imagine my surprise when I saw that Mick Turner, of the Dirty Three (and I think the only member of that band still permanently living in Melbourne), was playing at Bar Open, one of the main venues for local live music in this part of Melbourne. Bar Open is a pretty small venue with a bar downstairs and a band room upstairs. It has live music almost every night of the week and gigs there are nearly always free. Including tonight's.

So to sum up, I just got back from a free 45-minute set by the guitarist from the greatest band Australia's ever produced, playing alongside a drummer whose name I didn't catch but who was really good. On a Thursday night. Oh, and afterwards he was selling C.D.s out of a suitcase on the side of the stage for A$10 each. Amazing.

I know this thread is about future shows but seriously I keep finding out about local shows at the last minute and then they keep being awesome. After awesome Mick Turner on Thursday night last night there was awesome local dude Oliver Mann (you may remember me mentioning him frequently in the past) playing in the gorgeous Richmond Uniting Church to launch his new 7" "Country Wedding". He played unamplified as much as was possible (it's a pretty small church and everyone there was absolutely silent). "Country Wedding" is a two-part song (corresponding to the A and B sides of the vinyl) and the second part is an instrumental, and when he played it it turned out he'd planted a few people in the audience with bells, and when they started ringing them softly it was completely unexpected and absolutely stunning. One of them was sitting right behind me. Seriously I think Oliver Mann's my favourite Melbourne musician.

Just got back from Titus Andronicus w/ Shapes, The Nineties, and Boy Meets God. They played in a auto garage here on campus that's been converted into a concert space and can really hold no more than 150 or so max. That being said the show was insanely packed and I'm now immensely sore from being punched, kicked, elbowed, kneed, stepped on, and shoved for three hours straight. It was essentially one massive, insane mosh pit, at least for the two main bands (Shapes and Titus). In other words, it fucking ruled. I was no more than five feet from the stage the whole show and often was right up against it (this stage is about lower-calf height mind you) the whole time. Great, great show.

I just saw Fucked Up and Burning Love for the Halloween show here. Amazing show. Fucked Up were dressed up as grunge kids and played a set of 90s shit (Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Hole, etc.) and then a bunch of originals. I'm just about going deaf right now, cause kids who didn't know how to stage-dive kept falling on the side of my face, and my phone and one of my shoes is broken, but it was worth it.
