This would be a good point if it weren't in this thread. I really don't think most people enjoy conversations about roleplaying, just like many people don't like conversations about half of the stuff in the music forums. That said, I don't go into Green Day threads and suggest they should be about Kyuss, even if I'd be more interested in the latter, so I found RedLion's post kind of irritating.

Anyway about your munchkin question, yes, I find them annoying, but that's because a munchkin by definition disrupts the flow of the group they're in. A lot of people hate power gamers, but it's just as possible for a hardcore RPer to go into a group full of power gamers and ruin everything. A good gaming session is just like any other casual social event. It's more likely to turn out well when people go with the flow and enjoy what's offered rather than make the event into something it's not.

Risk and drinking definitely = good times.  I remember being bored back in college and playing a Risk drinking game where we would take a swig every time you had a country taken away from you.

Dimmukane:
You stole my story, dick.

KickThatBathProf:
Hey hey hey it's alright man we can both share the good times

*shrug* You commented that role-playing games produce anecdotes while Scrabble does not, but I don't think they are any different in that regard. Like, Scrabble players are just as interested in anecdotes about really lucky/skillful words as roleplayers are in anecdotes about noteworthy roleplaying sessions, and neither sort of anecdote is of any interest to people who don't play the game. Whatever, it's not important.

I guess I didn't just mean do they annoy you individually, but rather do you find them to be a systemic/chronic problem? I recall just about every roleplaying group I was part of eventually being shitted up by the arrival of munchkins, to the point that one gamemaster actually withheld knowledge of certain rules the munchkins would have loved and only showed that rulebook to me.
