Looking for new music
echofly:
Dead Meadow sounds pretty good.
I listened to a couple of songs by Soulwax; I'll definitely get the whole of Any Minute Now
Dillinger Escape Plan: I'm not really in the mood for this right now but it definitely reminds me of Genghis Tron and I may look into them further.
Amon Amarth sounds good. I'll have to get some full albums.
I'll keep an eye on Ikuinen Kaamos and hope their album gets released soon.
I'm downloading the Cloudkicker now. Promising.
Sonic Youth - I like the instrumentation, vocals are a bit eh.. for me.
Thanks, feel free to continue adding suggestions.
Dimmukane:
Don't listen to him, Dead Meadow's s/t is totally fucking awesome. In my opinion, it is the best record produced for under 200$ in a garage that you will ever hear. Also, if you like Amon Amarth, you will probably also like Turisas.
onewheelwizzard:
Check out the 13th Floor Elevators (and their singer, Roky Erickson, who released a bunch of solo stuff after they broke up) ... they were one of the very first "psychedelic" bands ever, and they definitely count as "experimental" and maybe even "indie" even though they're from 1965. Definitely an awesome gem from the past.
If you think Dead Meadow is as cool as I think they are, definitely look into Moccasin, Colour Haze, Causa Sui, The Psychic Ills, and La Ira de Dios. These are all sweet heavy/psychedelic bands that you might really enjoy. There's a Causa Sui album on the mediafire thread that I put up very recently, and the links for the Colour Haze and La Ira de Dios discographies might still be active too. Check them out. If you like the psychedelic vibe, let me know, because I've got a ton more recommendations in that vein.
If you don't listen to The Flaming Lips, listen to the fucking Flaming Lips.
You've probably never heard of Kyuss. Listen to Kyuss. LISTEN TO KYUSS.
Thrillho:
The thing with Sonic Youth is:
1. They have three lead vocalists, so you may have heard one or three.
2. All three of them are hit and miss, so it can differ from song to song.
3. A lot of their songs are predominantly instrumental anyway.
Be My Head:
--- Quote from: Harun on 10 Jan 2009, 20:40 ---Some of their riffs sound like they came from a better version of Blackwater Park.

No fucking way, I'm going to have to listen to this and see for myself. I will be very surprised if this is true. What about the production? Do they have that uber crunchy distorted sound?
