Cute haircut Dora! And let me be the 1000th person to point out the typo. She obviously was "wearing" not "earing" a low cut top. *sigh*

Cue the neurotic fear that Marten is going to leave her for Raven...

Came in for the bacon latte reference... was not disappointed.

Could I have extra bacon in mine, please?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I would show up for that.

But regarding the comic, I'm liking Dora's new haircut.

Ah ha ha, Marten is cute. I am similar, my fantasies have to be semi-realistic. So not as bad as Marten but it can be really annoying... I can't bear to imagine cheating so sometimes I am single and sometimes I work my SO into it and the latter case is so unlikely it's ridiculous so I'm torn between "hotness" and "ah fuck no way". Dammit! It's distracting I tell you.  :-P

Come to think of it...where IS Raven? We have not seen hide nor hair of her since before the Riversmith debacle or even before the time "time jump" into winter. I never thought she added a whole lot to the strip, but now that she has been gone for a bit, I think I miss her sweet stupidity.

If I were Marten I would be afraid to answer that question...one minute Dora is a fun loving girlfriend then she turns into the self conscious bitch from hell....I bet it would have been an even worse reaction if he said he still fantasized about Faye.

Third panel is best Marten depiction yet!!!  "OH YEAHHHHHH!!!!"

IMHO to date in the strip Marty has ordered pizza 387 times but since pizza girl has disappeared his only reaction has been "Aw, F**K." That's where his fantasy life has been going.

Also, in the spirit of Basil Exposition, this episode implies that Raven has no boyfriend known to Marten. That doesn't seem to to be consistent with Raven's long term character development. Not that I care, but we do need to keep track of these things.

I don't think dreams count -- fantasies implies some conscious control.  Subconsciousness is a notorious wild cannon.

I think Dora was the one getting hot'n'bothered over Marten thinking about Raven, not about to go into a spastic fit (once again, it was the SECRECY, EVASION, AND DENIAL that caused the stupid fight...sheesh.)

Also...St. Marten.  However, he should just try the "shoved into another dimension" fantasy tactic to relieve the guilt of reality.

It makes a lot of sense that Marten would fantasize about Raven since she has told him in the past that she wasn't interested in guys like him.  So he might think it's "safe" to fantasize.

Plus she grabbed his ass that one time.

Yep. I can hang with Marten on this one. If I were him, I'd totally fantasize about Raven...and if I were still his age (22-25?), she would also scare me shitless if I actually wound up on a date with her.

I'm sure Jeph would just laugh, but I feel sort of sorry for him on the typo thing.  The man is working without a proofreader or editor before he goes public.  It's more amazing that he has been so relatively typo free.  So, geez, I give him a pass on the thing.  It isn't like 200 people aren't going to go gleefully typo hunting as soon as he posts anything.

Hey, I'm an English instructor, so typos are something I look for on a DAILY BASIS.  To me, it's not an insult that I catch them, it's my job, and it's my habit to correct, not criticize.

I'm actually more concerned about the shift in hair color in mid-comic.  To me, despite the sudden close-up view, the hair needed a tad more black.  But hey, I'm not an artist, and if that's the way Jeph wanted it done, that's his cake and candy.

Enjoy the comic, and the image of those heaving Raven-bosoms.

The Jeph overlord is always watching.

He's gonna kill us all one day, probably in ink.

Edit:  The "Look, Don't Touch" with the "I'm prettiest" catch is reasonable.  My husband and I have this rule with each other and so far, so good.  I know he's gonna look.  If he's not looking, he's blind or dead.  Just no touching and  I get to be his favorite.  Same for me -- I can look all I want, but nothing else, and he's always the best.  It's a good system.

And, yeah, I'm with Dora -- poison apples are so 12th century.

So... does this mean that Dora perceived Marten as "trying to fuck" the girl who asked him out?

(no "he tried to cover it up" - she was on the attack from the very start before he'd even had time to form such an intent)

Ugh, agreed. Pretty much the only way I can like Dora now is if I get my brain to believe that the entire "MARTEN, I CAN'T BELIEVE OTHER WOMEN LIKE YOU, EVEN THOUGH YOU REFUSE TO DATE THEM" arc didn't exist at all. I think Jeph meant it to be amusing, especially with the physical comedy {swords etc), but the result is that Dora just ... looked ... legitimately insane. To me. And I read all the posts at the time, looking to be convinced, and I'm sorry -- I still think she was misrepresented in that arc, especially if Jeph wants us to like her, which I believe he does. Thus -- attempt at brain-wipe.

I'm also a pretty firm believer in "if you tell the boy how paranoid you are that he'll leave you, he's going to consider leaving you, because he'll wonder why you're so panicky about it all the time, and maybe you know something that he doesn't." It's never actually happened to me, but it's happened to enough of my friends that I know the signs. So, Jeph, unless this is the beginning of a break-up arc, you should probably quit writing Dora to be so irrational, because it's starting to get unrealistic that even Marten, Indie in Shining Armour, would stick around.

I sort of have to disagree with bits of this. If you regularly voice your grievances with your sig. other you'll seldom come to a point where being concerned about what the other does is seen as "crazy." Basically if you bottle stuff up to the point of having it all come out from nowhere, then yeah, a guy is going to get freaked out and question things.

Not every guy is a stone faced emotionless statue who will leave if you tell him how you feel. Most, especially the emo/indie/hardcore group, seem to be the most emotionally in touch. Seems to me like Dora just has some self esteem issues when it comes to girls liking Marten. Makes sense to me because of everything with Faye. However, the whole "girl asking Marten out" thing was a big deal because he didn't tell her not because the fact that other girls like him.

Ok. Dora is bi, and makes jokes about other ladies all the time.
But she overreacts when Marten gets asked out, and can't stand the thought of him still having feelings for other women.
But she's fine with him fantasizing about Raven.

So, I guess she's just got a very clear mental divide between emotional attachment and sexual attraction? Or it just depends on her mood? Maybe a little of both.

Man, she is one confusing lady!

AH!  Sense!  Dora was upset about the cover up and evasion, not the girl.  Redbeard, you demonstrate good listening skills -- that is, you stay tuned in for the whole thing instead of hearing the first six words and concentrating on your rebuttal for the rest of the time someone else is speaking.

Ok, a ranty bit (not at you, RedBeard, I'm just not double posting -- save the electrons!)  Saying that "all women are unpredictable and crazed" is as fallacious as saying "all men are sex crazed horn dogs"   First, most people find their own behavior pretty damned rational whereas those around them who may not have the whole story or the same perspective think differently.  Second, plenty of men can be crazed and unpredictable -- also warm, kind, loving, or outrageous jerks, or generous and empathic, or emotion suppressing stoics, or irrational, crying messes, or anything else available in human behavior.  Women are also capable of the whole continuum of behavior.  Stop thinking in stereotypes and keep in mind that you, yourself, can be cast as one - and it will be very uncomfortable.

Ranty bit over.  Time for caffeine.
