This may be the first first kiss in QC history that both characters saw it coming and where ready for it.

Way to go Marten!!!!!!! :-D :-o

I would even go one step further and theorize that Marten was the one who initiated it (his hands are already stroking her cheek!). Also, I thought Hanners "YELLLING" to be really funny somehow.

Moment of the week:
Faye: SECRET WINE TIME!
Tai: WOO
Hanners: YELLING

I lol'd.

Way to go Marten, indeed. A long way to where Padma is going. (Oooh, have I killed the mood?  :-P )

But her hand is on the back of his head, pulling/holding him close, and with her body language in the previous panels she's definately ready to make a move. Marten, for once in his life, actually read the signals right.

Finally Marten gets some action! Guess everyone who said Padma had no interest in Marten were a bit off-including me.

Of course, it could simply be a case of Man+Woman+Alcohol=FIREWORKS!!! But I think the alcohol just facilitated things here, not created something out of nothing.

2. is this a 'last night in town moment'

3. will Hanners freak when she sees what's going on/infers what will happen later?

4. MOAR WINE!

The rule of Marten is that good things only happen to Marten if it sets up something worse.  Now Marten will be attached to a girl who's leaving soon, that's fun.  Not to mention how pleased Elliot will be when he finds out this happened.

I also have a tough time fathoming why Padma likes Marten at all since she's shown no romantic interest in him until this point.  She's talked about herself only until this comic, and she's immediately bored by Marten's pipe dreams when she finally lets him speak.  If you're going to hook Marten up with someone, at least set it up to be believable!  I have to assume that Padma is very loose when drunk.

Comics don't often make me actually chuckle, but "YELLING" really did. Last time that happened was Marten's reaction to Fleshlight Pintsize. And before that, Psycho Dora made me look like a goose at work chuckling at my phone like an idiot.

Waiting for Faye to come back in and spoil it :-D. "Marty, did you want any-WOOOOO!!! SEXY TIMES!!!"

Hey Elliot had his chance, and apparently blew it a LONG time ago. Marten really owes him nothing, it's not like they're long-term friends or anything, they're not much more than acquaintances. Not that any of this will stop Marten from agonizing about Elliot's feelings when he sobers up though.

I don't think she's saying she's actually bored by him. Just in that he's talking while they're both looking at each other like they would rather be kissing. She's looking at him quite intently while he's talking and Marten got the cue.

Right now, them kissing is a good thing. Wait till the bad thing happens (if/when it does) before we start complaining.

ooh, just had a thought. Dora went on a date with Jim, now Marten is making sloppy kisses with Jim's employee. I can easily imagine Dora getting riled up by that, along the lines of the Faye/Sven couplet.

Dora's right to get riled up about what Marten does ended with the relationship.

If she wanted it she shoulda put a ring on it, figuratively speaking.

Doesn't mean she won't have an emotional reaction, but if she gives Marten (or Faye as a proxy, or Hanners) any shit over this situation, I don't even want to know her.

Indeed.  Now, if Padma wasn't already planning on moving away I'd advise Elliot to just deal with it, but as it stands now he's just one more complication in an already existing mess.  Marten's setting himself up for a huge fall IMHO, and all he'll have to show for it in a couple of weeks is the knowledge that he made Elliot uncomfortable for pretty much nothing.

That was not true for the Dora + Marten relationship, though.

Pfft I dont think Padma saw that one coming. She hasnt expressed any interest in Marten before. I wonder if she's simply drunk.

Possible, but not automatically so. Padma could decide she wants to stay now. Or grandma could die before Padma actually moves. Etc.

These characters are fictional! Not even ink on a page (unless you ordered one of the volumes) -- they're pixels on the Internet! Not! Real!
And yet, I was still thinking "Go Marty!"    :-D

The Secret Wine triumvirate was classic. Also Faye's gentle herding-everybody-out-let-them-have-some-space.

Somehow, I think Marten's character would be sad to see Padma go, but mature enough to understand a last-night-in-town, no-strings-attached mentality (if that is what Padma's up to). And Marten seems centered enough not to follow her all the way out to the west coast; that was barely-out-of-college-kid behavior.

Who knows how many ways this could go, but it's interesting that the three other women in the apartment have the *least* motivations, for once, for screwing things up: Faye (sister), Hannelore (little sister), and Tai (supervisor, and also this further clears the way for a shot at Dora).

For that matter, it's kinda odd that of all the women go get attracted to, it's Dora's 'doppleganger'.

akronnick, I agree with you, she doesn't have any right to be upset about this or any situation like it. I'm just saying that based on previous form; it is predictable that she will react badly, unless therapy has been going really well.

A curious comic, with the laughs at the beginning, not the end. YELLING!

Marten, for once in his life, actually read the signals right.
Padma is aiming the 100MW sexy-look at him in panel six*. If he didn't read that...

*And a very nicely drawn sexy-look too.

Way to go Marten!!!!!!! :-D :-o
Pfft I dont think Padma saw that one coming. She hasnt expressed any interest in Marten before. I wonder if she's simply drunk.

Well, maybe Padma's been more subtle about it: Dora had been very obvious, and telegraphed her intentions to other characters, etc. It was harder for Jeph to display Padma's inner thoughts without giving her a monologue or, frankly, repeating the Dora/Marten storyline somewhat.  Besides, Padma has (a) invited Marten hiking, (b) looked concerned when Eliot dragged him off, (c) was upfront about leaving for the West Coast, (d) told a relative stranger about the reason she was leaving for the West Coast, and (e) invited Marten out dancing.  That adds up to fairly steady interest.

"Hey Dora, Marten has replaced you with a clone that mostly looks exactly like you, except she's black and characterwise she's kinda clueless."

...Indian, not black. There is a difference.

Well, I'm going to go ahead and agree with stoutfiles insofar as this is not under any circumstances going to lead to something good. Everything after this moment will be full of people hastily trying to deal with the aftermath of this moment.
Personally, I think the best case scenario is that Marten pulls off a much less harsh version of Angus's rejection of Marigold, since although it might not seem like a very nice thing to do in the short term, it will probably be seen as the best decision in the long run.

The worst, and in my opinion more likely scenario, is Faye, Tai or Hannelore walking back in on them and reacting badly.
In any case, the moment itself was sweet, but the aftermath will probably bring all kinds of trouble.
I don't feel that now is the time to push the panic button (and I do have a panic button lying around somewhere), but there may come a time fairly soon...

Despite all of this talking about the kiss, I'm still voting for Hannelore's "YELLING" as the Moment of the Week. I suspect the poll will contest almost entirely between those two options.

"Good" is a relative term. I don't think Marten expects/hopes for this to turn into a relationship.

Looks like Dolly "Parten" finally became a thing!

Get it? Padma + Marten = Parten, Dolly Parton, et al?

I'm damn good.

These characters are fictional! Not even ink on a page (unless you ordered one of the volumes) -- they're pixels on the Internet! Not! Real!
And yet, I was still thinking "Go Marty!"    :-D

You're so new around here!!! :-D

In amongst all the other stuff (Go Marty, well done, Hanners steals a strip with a SINGLE WORD, Padma is still cute and I still don't much like her personality), where did Hanners' headband go? I was sure I saw it around Faye's neck in the stream, but don't see it now.

Hm, I always thought Dora's thing was being unpredictable. Such that people tip-toe tip-toe around an issue, and then she doesn't end up freaking out about it.

Her reason for breaking up with Marten was her jealousy issues. She did it so she wouldn't have to feel insecure about him liking other people, like, that was the biggest reason for doing it. Even if she feels kinda shitty about it, she would have to be an idiot to not recognise how it would make her look if she caused a shitstorm.

Does anybody have an example of when she went crazy even after having time to calmly weigh up the issues and gain some perspective?

Facepalm emoticon FTW!

I don't know what to think about the kiss. Let them cherish the moment, and see what happens.

this is not under any circumstances going to lead to something good.

At the absolute least, I think it'll lead to a bit more kissing. That sounds like something good to me. Kissing is fun times.

I love this comic. Lots of great touches, like Hanners' "YELLING", Padma slowly moving closer to Marty, the drunk bubbles forming hearts. The whole thing is very well played (and drawn).

Are they even kissing yet? It looks a bit like they are only VERY close in the last panel... depending on what happens on monday, they might still be interrupted before any kissing (in whatever fashion) takes place. oO

First, Yayy Marten! :-D

Second, someone stated how this Marten+Padma+Elliot dynamic is, I assume, no different than the Marten+Faye+Angus dynamic and I have to say I agree. If Padma doesn't see Elliot as anything other than a friend (Faye+Marten), then that's that. Marten+Padma not getting together won't change the Padma+Elliot dynamic.

Third, I don't think Marten and Padma getting intimate will change anything. We're not talking love here (at least I should hope not - too soon), just attraction. I expect Padma to continue to her grandmother's and Marten to continue with his life there. There may be some Elliot fall-out if he ever finds out but there is no reason he should.

(However, I do expect that the smile on Marten's face and the bounce in his step to be a dead give-away when Dora sees him. I don't expect her to get mad, just notice.)

Faye may be drunk, and need Hanners to substitute for an internal censor, but I think she is still functioning at a surprisingly high level - she got Padma to go home with Marten and then got the rest of the crowd out of the way with the secret wine quest. Also, Pintsize is nowhere to be found.  I suspect he is sleeping with the waffles.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!-time!
And booty-dance!

Been a while already... again. :D

Also, this might lead to some danger to the public calm
