As for buses, from what I've seen, Greyhound is okay as long as you never go west of Pittsburgh. One experience of sitting next to a drug addict suffering from withdrawal symptoms from St. Louis to Columbus is enough. Still better than the kid in the seat behind me screaming "Oh Snap" repeatedly from Tulsa to St. Louis.
Since then, I've taken planes instead...
bhtooefr:
Try Greyhound all the way from Columbus, to Portland, OR, and back.
Yeah, that's not an experience I ever want to repeat in my life.
no one special:
If his dad already bought him plane tickets, why can't he just get someone to drop him off at the airport? I'm not sure what his difficulty is...

Yeah, mine was from Hagerstown, Maryland, to Norman, Oklahoma and back. Like I said, east of Pittsburgh, it was fine, but once you get west of Pittsburgh... not an experience I would want to repeat.

For most purposes, "the airport" for Northampton is either Bradley (=Hartford) or Logan, and for Stowe, Burlington, and that flight would most likely go through Philly or DC. Unless his father's chartered a plane, in which case it was a hell of a thing for him even to consider going by car, it was all kinds of ridiculous for him even to think of it.
