They really have some quality stuff but at "Hipster" Wmsburg prices. 2 brown 78 mustangs. Like $1500, each. I did like the guild acoustic bass I played there. I really don't get most of the appeal of Williamsburg. It is hyped to f*cking death. They have an amazing collection of pedals. Next time I'm over there I'll snappy some more. do any of you guys love to restring guitars as much as I do? it's therapeutic for me. I like every single part of the process, and the trickier it is, the better. I love Fender vintage-style tuners, and my acoustic's nut came unglued a few months after I got it, so it just floats there, making it very tricky to do a full restring. I seriously love doing it.

Oh, when I have money, I restring my guitars every couple of weeks, which leads to them playing nicer and brighter and me playing them more which leads to me having to restring them more often, it's hell I tell you! At this moment I have one guitar missing a G string, the others are gathering muck and rust like there's no tomorrow and my bass is in serious need of some new strings too, it having been four years now.

I've got weird tuners on my Strat which make restringing initially kind of a pain in the ass but after a few goes I mastered it.

My brother hasn't changed his bass strings in almost 4 years. I keep telling him he needs to wop out the £20 and re-string it. He is adamant it's "fine", but I have had to explain so many times all because they're not snapped doesn't mean anything when they've been on there that long...

Good bass strings cost a fuckton. I have a set of 35 euro strings on mine. They will also last a year to two years though, and depending on the bass and/or bassist, sound better when well worn in. If you play on them often, that is.

EDIT: seriously, I know one guy who swears that he's never changed his strings and he's never been happy with anything other than his bass how it is, and he plays a 1980's yamaha.

Nah bass strings are usually about £20ish. Compared to guitar strings which are about £6.

The thing is, he's probably gone past the well worn in stage and is now at the "doesn't do octaves right" stage. Plus its a longscale/24 fret thing, and he also does zero maintenance on it. Needs to learn his shit!

I find that sweaty hands help me play better but destroy the longevity of my strings, doubt I could keep them on forever. There's always that time when you just know your small e is going to break (your heart).

I haven't changed strings outside of breakages for the entire time I've played bass. I do change the entire set when they do break though, because I can't stand inconsistent tone.

Flatwounds play/feel nice but they're flat, dead and lifeless sounding. Also they snap like fucking twigs.

I'm just gonna chime in and say that if I could go back in time with a revolver and a single bullet, I'd shoot the guy who decided that you'd string Fender-style tuners by sticking the string in the top. It just flat doesn't work, and it ruins my whole day when I have to restring my strat.

Also, flats can be super nice on bass because they basically cut your sound down to the fundamental and get rid of overtones. It can be really great on rootsier (?) music and also meshes amazingly well with a fuzz unit.

Minus the sheer, baffling stupidity of hauling around a Space Echo just to use it as a gain stage/comp this is a pretty sweet rundown. He's a pretty unique guitarist and I always wondered how he got those bassier tones on their first couple of records.

Baritone guitars aren't really all that deep, at least not if we're talking B-to-B. I think the speaker blowing in your Twin is more down to shit luck than anything. Either that, the Twin just can't handle that sort of thing.

well, he was really laying into those open chords. and he has zero concept of what it means to play in a band setting (probably why he's been kicked out of every band he's ever been in), so he had the master volume cranked.
