The second one is a bit of a stretch but it is visible without too much information which is a problem, I guess. However, the first one really isn't difficult to associate with the runic SS symbols.

I've never seen anyone eat chili with crackers (as in saltines) either. I would have just assumed he was talking about tortilla chips.
