I have a sweater with a zipper, so that is an invalid argument.

I wish you could see my outfit more in this picture, but I really like the shirt I am wearing, it's pretty bizarre. The best part, however, is the fact that I bought it for $2.50!

Oh, are you sure? I mean I was just going for quite a thick jacket with nice buttons on it. I was only using "steampunky" as a sort of shorthand.

hmmm, okay but in which case can I ask a random question, having seen any of the pics I put in the photo thread what sort of clothing do you think would suit me? I am sorry to ask but I am just curious.

Can do:

This is normal clothing, its the only one I could find that isn't a lot bigger

And this is me with going out outfit on.

And this final one is my face as it is at the moment.

Any help or advice that can be put forward on how to make me look less of an artard will be greatfully recieved. (and sorry for the image sizes)

I dunno man, you are a pretty attractive dude and the stuff you are wearing doesn't look bad on you at all. I think the excessive formality of your "going out" outfit doesn't really serve you, possibly because without the beard you look much younger, which results in a sort of "kid in daddies clothes/high school dance" feel that isn't doing you any favors. The hat is rad with the beard and a more casual look(it is a good hat![and a good beard!]) but I think with the suit you look like a back up singer for the specials a little bit. Or a high school kid who still thinks that he's gonna be the next Reel Big Fish.

The normal clothing is fine, if plain. If you wanted to spice it up a bit, consider wearing light pull over sweaters instead of T-shirts, or more casual button ups, or even some cool looking Polo shirts. V-neck Ts are a great way to stay casual and still look a little more exciting too.

That is really it, I guess? It is hard to tell someone how to dress when you don't know the climate they're working with and what their life entails, but those are my tips. It also would not be a bad idea, at all for you to try out some brighter colors? I dunno if those pictures are representative, but they make it seem like your wardrobe is a little dark/drab. Wear some blues and greens and reds, it'll serve you!

I have blues and greens, and they are all a nicer shade than what I had on there, its just that I rarely get photographed in my normal clothes.

I have been told to do something similar in regard to clothing by others, well apart from the sweaters could you perhaps provide examples? Polo shirts I don't really have too many of, so I will bear that in mind, but I always sort of saw polo shirt as screaming "ass-hat!" I tend to overdress but I am trying to combat that as much as possible.

(btw apologies for the first photo, its for some promotional theatre stuff, not a day job)

I really like them! You could pretty much wear them with anything. A black dress would look great or a pair of skinny jeans and a nice top. Basically, I tend to buy shoes and plan the outfit around the shoes, rather than the other way round.

Hello fashion thread,
Just popping in for quick question I thought you may be able to answer.
I've been looking for an overcoat recently and when I saw "Public Enemies" Johnny Depp's overcoat seemed the perfect one.
I've looking everywhere for it but it seems I'm looking for too general a thing.
So what would I look for to find his exactly?
(Ex. Double breasted, three buttons, etc.)

It looks like a double breasted tweed trench coat to me. Basically, you can probably find double-breasted trench coats anywhere there are trench coats, because that is the standard style, I think. For tweed you will have to look a lot harder. Try some menswear stores, and Burlington Coat Factory if you live in the US (although I don't know how much coats they still do), and definitely check out goodwill.

Actually now I would really like someone to post about where to find good coats because I have no idea.

Hey, I've never posted to this thread before, but I think I need some help.  I have a pair of jeans that I have had for five years now that are my favorite pair of jeans ever.  I do theatre, and I do all set work in them- they are ripped, patched, frayed, torn, covered in paint and loved thoroughly through and through.   I love them so much that I have worn them to every concert my band has every played.  Herein lies the problem.  I have quite a few friends who hate these jeans for what they are, and constantly criticize how I look on stage with them on.  I don't get it.  I think they're lovely, but I'm biased.  So, here are some pictures of said jeans, for you to judge.  Are they worth wearing to future shows?

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2402645&id=59837055431&ref=mf#/photo.php?pid=2402648&id=59837055431&ref=mf

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2402645&id=59837055431&ref=mf#/photo.php?pid=2402651&id=59837055431&ref=mf

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2402645&id=59837055431&ref=mf#/photo.php?pid=2402653&id=59837055431&ref=mf

I am the lanky one with the plaid shirt/suspenders.  No back view, but it's pretty much uniform destruction.  So, verdicts.  Should I continue wearing these?

So Fashion Thread, I'm hoping to get a pair of sunglasses. I've generally avoided buying a pair because I feel my face is a funny-shaped face and have never found a pair to suit it (admittedly, have also never searched that hard). I'm mostly looking for recommendations on places to start — brands that are reliable and will last a while, and overall genuinely worth their price tag. But I guess if you want to make recommendations for my face-shape as to what type of sunglasses I should look into/avoid, I can upload a picture, too.

Upload a picture!

I am only really into classic sunglasses styles, so I pretty strictly shop the more traditional Ray-Bans styles (aviators, wayfarers) but I also really like the sunglasses Steve Mcqueen wears in the thomas crown affair. Persol makes them, and they also do the classic, nonobtrusive, frame very well.

They are only sort-of gladiator sandals since they don't have the weird bit that goes up the back of your heel. But yeah they are wicked comfortable. I wore them almost every day during Camp Edith/Chicagocon (and my feet have the splotchy tan to prove it).

I've got to get a girlfriend, just for the summer, until this wears off. She'll be a summery girl. She'll have hair. She'll have summery friends who know how to be outside. She'll play tennis and wear dresses and have bare feet, and in the autumn, I'll ditch her, because she's my summer girl!

I need to get me a summerdress week girl.

Ally, laaame.

Sundress week continues! This one may be stretching the rules since it isn't A-line, but it's definitely a summer dress and comfy as hell. It doesn't seem to go with any shoe ever invented, so I think that means it's pretty solidly summery.

hey Amanda, that chair on your right? what's that like to sit on? It looks like it might be super comfortable and springy but it also looks kinda scary. I don't know whether or not I could sit in that chair. If I saw a chair like that, I'd need somebody else to test it first. It's like stepping out onto a glass floor or something. Looks like a computer desk chair.
How do you feel about computer desk chairs that spin around and can be adjusted in height?

Oh, that doesn't sound anywhere near as appealing as it looks. I've been looking into a new desk chair, but I've been worried about the spinny round adjustable chairs ever since that one guy had one explode and kill him when he sat on it.
I do like the look of your chair.

You could try some light heels or just 'fuck it' and wear some comfortable sneakers. Depends on whether or not you want to look co-ordinated or have comfortable feet and the option of chasing people down on foot should the requirement arise.
Alternatively, the suggestion of flipflops was a pretty good one, I think.

Flip flops would be good for a really casual look, but if you want to take it a step up, something like this would work well:

From Payless, naturally, but they come in black as well, which would look good with the dress.

I'm wearing a dress!

It's still a little cold, though, so tights and a cardigan are needed.

Woooo dress :)

It is a great dress and I wholeheartedly support this new development, but it flares right out from under the bra-line, hiding your slim waist.  The cardigan seems to keep it in check, so I figure a nice unobtrusive belt will work as well.

yeah, without the cardigan it kinda puffs out at the front and is a bit frumpy, so I need something to pull it in at the waist. It is all floaty, though, I like it!
