But luckily it's gotten colder here, so I don't see girls walking down the street in hot pants and stilettos anymore

I know I shouldn't dislike this look because it's revealing and I am a guy, but it's one of the trashiest things I can currently think of.

Are you talking about a pair of hot pants with a short skirt over them?  That crosses the line from trashy to ridiculous, though.

miniskirt with Uggs
strapless bra with miniskirt
ill-fitting knee boots with pointy toes, worn with a dress so short it is basically a shirt
anything with sequins machine-sewn on
the popular girls at prom
pregnant and barefoot in Daisy Dukes and a ratty wifebeater
ridge-runnin'

I can think of some more, if you want.

hot pants and stilettos

i don't want to discourage anyone from wearing what they want but in all honesty whenever i see girls wearing this in toronto i get sort of uncomfortable because depending on the context i often legitimately cannot tell if they are a prostitute or not. this isn't meant to be insulting, i really don't know. sometimes it seems like they might really be one and sometimes i'm not sure at all.

it's not inherently wrong to dress in a revealing way and nobody should care what i think anyway because most of my opinions are pretty stupid but any ladies considering this look, please be wary that strangers might look at you and make the honest mistake of thinking you are a sex worker. whether or not you're cool with that is up to you.

Clearly, my imagination is slightly lacking, but one of the things you said is not universally true:
the popular girls at prom

The popular girls at my prom were not people with whom I would ever want to be friends, but they weren't really trashy.

I got all of outfit 1 (including the shoes), all of 2 and the green-y top from thee, plus a bag for work for $32

They all look really good.  I like the dress in the first picture, but the outfit in the second picture is awesome.  The third is good, but it's not an aesthetic that I really go for (for some reason, I don't like blue shirts with blue jeans).

Also, is there something incredibly interesting off to your right?  Are there pictures of this incredibly interesting thing?

well technically I am looking at the camera in the first photo, but maybe the really interesting thing is the fact that I don't like looking at cameras? Ask anyone who has been at a meetup and wielded a camera, I avoid them like the plague. I prefer candid shots to obviously posed ones with fake forced smiles.

Canadians, where are good places to look for winter coats? Mine were stolen from my apartment (no joke) and I really desparately need one and I can't find any stores that are selling nice, superwarm, thick wool ones. Seriously, I live in Montreal, this should not be this hard. Helllllpp!

I got my short wool coat at a thrift store for $12, and my long one for free from my cousin. It's perhaps too long, but I think this winter I am going to take it to a tailor and get it shortened a bit. Right now it hits at about mid calf and I think I want it just to my knees. It is such a gorgeous coat though, oh my goodness.

Also here is a shirt I bought at Banana Republic a few months ago when I was in Vegas:

I apologize for the picture but apparently that camera doesn't have a timer, also my hair is crazy dirty in that picture. So is my bathroom mirror.

i know that whenever people comment on photos to say "you look just like someone i know" it's irritating and kind of discouraged and i understand why, but it's been months now and it's driving me nuts.

jace, you look exactly like my little cousin, to the point where every time you post a picture i freak out about the fact that he posts on the same message board as me and then get all paranoid and hope he isn't going through my posts reading something really dumb that i wrote about my job or my butt or any of the 500 times i ate food off the floor or something. then i remember it's not him, it's just some other guy who looks exactly like him, complete with same haircut and glasses. it's really weird as hell man. i think it's only fair that now it should be kind of weird for you too.

also that's a nice sweater.

I got my old peacoat at the Boys' Ranch (a thrift shop) and had it for a couple years before it finally fell apart. I got my most recent one, a nice charcoal colored one, last fall in JC Penney's.

Tania now I have tons more reasons to post things with my picture telling you that I think you are attractive because it will be weird for both of us. Also its not really a sweater, which is odd. It is sort of a thin material and I don't know what to wear with it, should I put a shirt under it maybe? It will not be warm enough for the coming months, but I really like it.

JACE you will be the death of me, also you can probably wear it with some sort of cardigan or even a scarf if you want to go for the super fashionable and maybe kind of man pretty look.

hey fashion advice thread i just realized i do have a question after all, should i buy this coat? (sorry that the pictures suck i had to take screenshots from the website cos there was no way to get actual pictures).

i already tried it on and it looks pretty much the exact same on me as it does on the model, just a little longer because i am a shortie. i am not particularly fond of it, just interested because i kind of want a long wool coat to add to my slowly-growing collection of stupid expensive coats and i get a 50% discount on this one. it's still pricey though, i would be paying $100 instead of $200. is that worth it or should i look around for a nicer and/or cheaper wool coat than this one that i also like a lot more? also which is the better colour, grey or black?

Question: does it really change your hair color depending on viewing angle?

Also, I have nothing serious to say about the coat.  It's pretty cool, but I tend to like mildly militaristic coats.

grey or black?

Grey. Long black coats are rather dull and kind of a downer while grey ones still look classy but show off the fabric's texture better if you get a nice one.

Fasionable boots that will/could stand up to wetness. I may get rain boots and a pair of leather boots, dunno yet, but the ones I wore to Bostocon are in bad shape, so I will probably stay away from suede.
