little known fact: South Park used to be a hand-drawn comic delivered by carrier pigeon.

a piece of popular culture much beloved by eight-year-old boys in the nineties.

Actually it's still a much beloved piece of popular culture, students in my classes routinely refer to it. My favorite "they didn't realize I was so much older than them" moment was the class where I was surprised that show was still on the air because I remember watching the first episode with my college roommate, and one girl was like "wait I was 8 when that came out."

The funniest thing about it is that you are repeating yourself. I am pretty sure I could find the last time you mentionned that anecdote.

That's cool to hear. I'm guessing they won't ask you cos that'd be pretty weird, but then again people do weird things.

I've never been asked directly, but it usually comes up obliquely, especially via pop culture references. I still chuckle about the one class where the students were talking about South Park, and I commented "That show is still on the air? man I remember watching the first episode back in college" and one of my students was like "what I was like 8 when that came out"

Also, fuck you tommy. pre-emptively

the age of your attractive teacher

Was this directed at me?  8-)

Actually, your mentioning South Park reminds me of a related anecdote; In one class I taught, my students flipped out when they realized just how old I am because I made reference to watching the first episode of South Park (the Christmas one from before the series was on TV) with my college roommate.

er, that is not something I learned today. my bad

You are repeating yourself Joe.

I do that a lot. I actually recently discovered that my very first post on this forum is something I've said multiple times. My fiancee routinely finishes my stories for me and gets annoyed that I keep telling the same stories over and over. Apparently I act even older than I am.

I don't so much repeat stories as I do repeatedly feel the need to explain aspects of my life -i.e; where I work and what I do there- because I figure nobody would care about me enough to remember. (This is not looking for sympathy, I am just a dude on the Internet, after all)

I like the hat.  It is a hat that is cool for the people who can pull it off (I am not one of those people).  Also, I am sort of a sucker for military-style clothing that actually looks good, so I'm down with the shirt, too.

Honestly, I think those hats almost never look good. To actually rock it you need a little more of the worn down wool jack/suit hobo look. It just doesnt make for a nice clean look. I would recommend a dark military type cap. Something like this:

It would also complement the epaulettes

Actually I was more going to wear it with my vest vestments and in general with my black peacoat. Which is why I said judge it individually because I don't like wearing hats casually.

The Flat Cap is a brave and always terrible fashion statement.

Since you already snagged yourself a wife-candidate - who even cares, right? Go even further with it. Get a pipe and a tweed vest too.

I love flat caps, but mostly on girls. Where I spent my formative years, the people who wore flat caps were the ones who tended to put their hands up sheep's bottoms. Not a good look.

Jordan don't wear the flat cap with shirt+tie+etc. flat caps are not for dressy. Whether you like wearing hats casually doesn't really come into it when we're dealing with a casual hat

Man I amused that the flat cap is being knocked and the cadet cap is being suggested. Cadet caps have been over-done by every hip kid there is. They look cool but they have been used far too much and I think the flat cap is OK.

And because of that we *know* when it works and when it doesnt. Also, baseball caps have been 'over-done' yet look at their prevalence. And if we go by the notion that over-done is explicitly bad, lets look at the bonnet. Try and work that into a functional outfit and not a costume.

I go on crafster a lot and wish I could sew pretty things like those guys do. I have my mum's old sewing machine, but it is at her place because it is too loud and there is no place to put it here for me to use it. I would probably use it more to make toys, though.

I bought a fantastic sewing machine earlier this year at a pawn shop for $35.

Of course... I promptly ripped it completely apart and made a pickup winder out of the motor, however, my advice to anyone looking for a sewing machine is to check pawn shops.   Craigslist too.

Yeah, all the time.   Been making my own pickups for quite awhile.   To be honest, I prefer a winder I made out of a $12 ebay universal motor, but the sewing machine one was an attempt to ape the Lollar winder.  The traverse mechanism gave me problems, so I went back to my old standby.

Sorry about the threadjack.  Please return to fashion talk.
